You should do a “how much space does a chicken need” it would help out a lot of people love from UK
2sqm per hen is what I have for my hens in the UK
She has spoken about it on video before, multiple times. Most of her newer videos are covering things she has covered before.
Richard Maunder ok here in USA what is Sqm ?
@@danielleterry180 Square meters in the USA you would use square feet. Thank you.
Richard Maunder thank you
Your place with chickens is a paradise
Thanks☀️❤️☀️
Becky, I have 10 hens and 1 rooster....you give such good straight forward advice. Have a great week!
😂
Joseph Sacchinelli lol bud
Wow who would do that? The poor chickens omg. Well I have 15 chickens and I had three roosters too and that was too much too so now we only have one. And just ate the other two
Something is wrong with me. I can't bring myself to kill my chickens. LOL
Ya, you have to do something because, more than one rooster doesn't work☀️❤️☀️
I’m convinced my chickens will eat ME if I die in the chicken coop. So I’m really careful out there lol!
🤣🤣🤣
Lolol Now THAT is some good advice!
Welcome to Chickenlandia you from chickenladia
Ocean Blue yes I am lol 🐔❤️🌎
You're probably not wrong.
we have 8 roos and 12 girls. Only 1 roo is with the girls
The others are pets but have there own areas.
ive been trying to rehome 5 of our roos because they are
very good hand raised roos
Todd Woodworth it’s funny how roosters do well with each other (usually) if there are no hens around!
At least you have them separated☀️❤️☀️
One roo with 12 hens is perfect! We had a large cluster of chickens (about 30).
The 3 roosters were fine; two were subordinates, and didn't fight...one roo was King.
They were Bantams, very gentle and sweet tempered (this was 60+ years ago).
We fed them regular chicken feed, and ALL our table scraps, including meat; they LOVED ham bits, and any meat they received was eaten first.
Great video. Thank you. We had chickens fight over a decent sized snake in the backyard.
Our chickens free range and we currently have 7 hens and 3 roosters from our original flock. We are getting more hens, but I’d like to add why having more than one is important in our case from my observations. Once they are out of the coop, some hens may go right to laying, others start roaming and the roosters split up to watch over the hens in different areas of the property. If a hen is done laying and there isn’t a rooster nearby, she calls out and one or sometimes two run to meet her and bring her to the flock. They often crow to let them know where the rest of the group is. There is some coop drama at night just before going in the coop at night, but it ends once they get in, just like if it were a bunch of hens being door bullies. Currently building another coop to see if they separate themselves into smaller flicks as we add hens. Chickens are so much fun!
So glad I found your channel...I am a veggie only eater and did not think about feeding my chickens meat! I do get fly larvae for them and let them out in the backyard to forage...but now they get some salmon and suet, dehydrated beef, and fish oil sprinkled on their grains. Thank You for helping me spoil my sweethearts even more! Peace to Your Homestead
That jacket is perfect with your hair.🌸❤🌸 the chicken just adds to it🐓❤
Hahahaha thanks. My chicken accessory☀️❤️☀️
My hens caught and ate fledgeling sparrows when thy tried to steal the chicken feed 🤣
That is messed up
@@db9ahmad86 is it? Chickens are not vegetarians. In fact they hunt, both individually and in packs. They are quite clever and by far not as dumb as people think. Go to a farm or homestead and watch them for a few hours. You might be surprised.
Fala Sakari Scorpions, snakes... They never ceases to amaze me!
Fala Sakari Scorpions, snakes... They never ceases to amaze me!
My chickens eat tadpoles and lizards all of the time! They are monsters! LOL
People forget that chickens are the closest living relative to T-Rex!
Brenda Smith I call my chickens little velociraptors...lol
@@heathercurtis5535 LOL
bugs dont lol
Amen! Thank you so very much!!! I feel so blessed to have found your channel.
I'm glad you like it☀️❤️☀️
Thanks for the great video! I've seen one of our chickens pulverize a mouse and swallow it! I could hardly believe my eyes and was concerned she would choke on that mouse, but do you suppose she would let me taker her mouse away?!? Nope! She ate it! And yes, they eat snakes, bugs galore, worms, grubs, anything they can get! I gave mine catfish food to up their protein when they are molting. Also, soymeal is said to have a 45% protein content.
Love you Becky! Best knowledge on chickens!!
Meat keeps them warmer in the winter!
Just received your book on raising backyard chickens from Amazon. Can't wait to read it. Have an awesome day! :)
Interesting information about what chickens eat. Becky, thanks for sharing!
Your welcome☀️❤️☀️
Please make a new video on *Collecting eggs from my Backyard Chickens* !!! I want to see your coop, chickens, their nest boxes and of course their delicious *colourful eggs* !!!! Please.. accept this request ❤️❤️❤️ Love from India 🇮🇳
When moving items or cleaning in garage or barn any mouse nests with "pinks" becomes chicken food. My rooster will immediately make his food-found sounds to alert his hens to a delicious meal.
Nice video, thank you Becky!
Ive got 10 roosters and 45 hens but they have enough room to spread out into smaller groups of 2 or 3 roosters and 7 -8 hens for free ranging and sleep all together in a big group at night
Sounds like you have a good set up☀️❤️☀️
@@BeckysHomestead Thanks Becky! Love your coop I want to build one like that with solid boards
These had me to the Point of Chicken! (When you’re laughing so hard even random words make you laugh harder... say “Chicken” to someone who is laughing uncontrollably, 😂 does it make them laugh harder? You will know they are at the “point of chicken”)
Putting 3 roosters in a coop is Fine?! 🤣 who told THEM THAT LOL
Hi Becky (and Scott): I have learned so much from you...the mealworms are the ticket! You are right on that! Beautiful rooster you have! I have not gone down that road yet! My girls produce TONS of eggs...even in the winter months....they are well fed and happy! :) Again, I have learned SO MUCH from you guys! You're awesome! Thanks again! :) We'll keep watching! Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
I'm so happy you like my videos☀️❤️☀️
You have been A lifesaver! My daughter brought home 3 baby chicks from school and your advice has been the biggest help!
Hey Becky thank you for the video I enjoyed it and thank you for always answering my questions I know if you get to be busy when you trying to answer everyone's comment but thank you again and I told a friend of mine about your channel and that you always tell the truth so you have a blessed day
Thanks☀️❤️☀️
Cuuuuuutest little doggy! Bin watchin' you long enough, that I could just tell what you were going to say. You are soOOOoo thoughtful to your hens/roosters. You ANTI-STRESS all your critters = that INNATE talent(s) of yours SHINING through again! Always enjoy your SUNSHINE face and wise, practical advice. GO BECKY! and thanks Scott, for your 'hidden' talents shared. God Bless you and yours! xo
My chickens definitely love meat. They get some and run from other chickens that are trying to steal their food. So funny.
They love grits and hominy too. LOL
I love your videos! Quick question, where should I buy in bulk, whole corn, oats and black sunflower seeds? Thanks!
that was funny Keep up the good work Becky!!!!
I remember one time I moved a straw bale and a mouse was sitting there. My old Rhodie must have been watching me, because out of no where a red feathered blur zoomed past me and grabbed the stunned little mouse before he could run away. She then flipped it , and tossed it, and pecked it dead in a nano-second. That`s the moment I realized my chicken was a better mouser than my cat!!
Right?! So true! What a fun event for that day. Hahahha
@@jennytaylor3409 I was horrified. I didn't know my chickens were such raptors!!
Hi, becky !!! i dont understand your languase properly ,,i still watching .Your tips very effective .thanks.🙂🙂🙂
Love you and this channel
Thanks☀️❤️☀️
Thanks Becky.
I have seven roosters...orpington, partridge cochin, turken (naked neck), colombian rock, cemani, and a couple mixed-breeds. They are free range and each has his own territory and hens. They spar sometimes, but never anything serious...lol, some drama but little trauma.
I have a brudy hen sitting on Ayam cemani eggs due by 8th this month, any advise on how to raise'em.
Super advice for chicken keepers. Your birds are gorgeous
Thanks☀️❤️☀️
Great advice! Yes one rooster is enough! 😊💜
☀️❤️☀️
More great Advice Becky, Thanks.
Your welcome☀️❤️☀️
that explains why my chickens bite and nip off just the tips of the grass blades thank you so much and I have started to feed my chickens mealworms not all the time but I sprinkle it around so the they dig for them
After watching another video of yours on what to feed chickens, now all I do is shake the mealworm bag and they come running from wherever they are 😂🤗❤
Hi Becky! So glad I found your channel. Have questions, why do some sites say if you use diatemateous earth you can't eat the eggs for a few weeks? You use it on a regular basis, right? Maybe that's just when you are doing it to deworm one it's already a problem?
She recommends food grade, so I don't believe it will stop you from eating your eggs. She says to mix the DE into the food for regular ingestion.
I personally consider chickens opportunistic carnivore
Yes☀️❤️☀️
The things people believe 🤣. Of course chickens eat meat. Their like dinosaurs 🦖. Have a great day Becky 🌻.
I give all our chickens left over roasted chicken, turkey and ham. They LOVE it. It’s so sweet to watch our roosters call their ladies over to eat some of the yummy leftovers. Great advice! Chickens won’t go after rats though. Mice, yes but rats, no. We had a rat living in our garage last summer and it came out when the flock was out as well, they ran away from it. We were shocked! We thought chickens will go after anything smaller then them. Nope. So we trapped the rat and let it go about 10 miles away from our house. No rat since.
SeriousName- umm how do you know I don’t buy organic/free range chicken for my family to eat? You sound quick to judge when you do not know half of it.
We had a hawk take out several of our girls. They didn't hesitate to feed on their deceased sisters in the short time span before we discovered the carnage. For the record, these chickens are free range on an unsprayed orchard getting regular feed, so well-fed birds, if not spoiled on the bounty of California. Long story short, chickens are inherently cannibals, opportunistic feeders much like their dinosaur ancestors. Feed them chicken, or not. Don't assign them human characteristics.
Jenifer chickens will eat each other on their own. Any chicken that gets a small bloody spot will get pecked to death and eaten by the rest. That is why I always say to remove the hurt or sick chicken tight away and don't put it back until it is completely healed☀️❤️☀️
thank you
Your thumbnail is too cute! Thanks for all the great info!
Thanks, Scott does a nice job☀️❤️☀️
My neighbors poor hens were being ravaged daily by their 5 roosters. There were several hens as well, (never sat there long enough to count them as they stayed in their coop mostly) but the roosters seemed to have their favorites they would fight each other over. Which was the 2 hens that would come out most. The poor girls had bare rears.
Hello Becky,
I have set up a Black Soldier Fly larvae farm to self feed my 4 RI RED chicks when the flies find it and start production.
My question is can chicks / chickens eat too much SFL protein. The bsf farm is bigger than needed I think.
Great advice
I ha e 6 hens, I want a rooster sooooo bad, but we’re inside city limits and aren’t allowed! Yep, that is horrible advice they gave ya, lol! Great video!!! I just had my chickens pick a winner for a drawing yesterday, it was hilarious, try it! 💚
A tour of your property video!!!
It is so nice looking!
Chickens eat EVERYTHING! Including rats. They also LOVE scorpions. Try it.
Hi Becky
Can you lead me to a PDF that has all the varieties with pictures and narrative details on it.
Thanks Becky. I appreciate you
Allen
Best info channel ever.
Thank you so much☀️❤️☀️
Yes meal worms are a favorite but also nice green clover and pumpkins
I LOVE U BECKY !!!
You were first congrats
Thanks☀️❤️☀️
Hi Becky I was wondering if it is ok to give your chickens left over greens
the worst chicken advice i've ever heard as the chicken in canada in winter does not need heat in their chicken coop ...

I live in N.E. Montana, no heat in my chicken coop, except for the heated watering dish
Hi I’m about to adopt 4 chicks first time . Nova Scotia Canada. Their coop is in the garage with a hole in the side that leads to outside. At night I will close the hole. Do I need a heat lamp for them when they are full grown during winter?
How many Roos should I have for 30 hens? I currently have two but selling one of them
My mom threw turkey outside and the chickens ate it i was like ma thats cannibalism she said its the circle of life
I was like oh sweet cheese and sprinkles
Hey Becky I watch your channel a lot an my hens quite laying eggs I just started giving my hens diatomaceous earth when can I start eating my eggs again?
my roosters are always fighting, and so are the hens,i have polish ones, they have been pulling the feathers out of there heads and some are almost bald,i put the hens in one side, and the roosters on the other and it still didnt work, its like everybody hates everybody,do you have any ideas how i can stop this?
Awesome advise... it's nice to know there is another female who knows about her critters and has bothered to learn if something wasn't known. For rookie homesteaders wanting chickens, a rooster is NOT NECESSARY for hen's to lay and watch out if he becomes overly aggressive...he can hurt kids if he attacks them
your the best becky.
Nice video on the worst chicken rearing advice you have ever got. Liked and enjoyed till the end. New here
i have a question pls help me ..
my hens everytime are sleepy and they stay very sad . i dont know how to say and sorry for my english.and they make a noise ( grr grrr)
pls help me
Your hair looked so pretty back lit by the sun. The hairstyle really suits you.
Fabulous thumbnail photo!
Hey Becky so I have a rooster that isn't very nice because he doesn't do the rooster dance and he pecks my family a lot. I want to get a new one but I'm attached to him since I had him since day 1 and I don't want to get rid of him at the same time. If you have any way I can approach this problem it would really help me.
Build another coop☀️❤️☀️
Whay kind of chicken is that in the screen shot ! It's beautiful.
I think it is a Malaysian Serama
I think some kind of jungle fowl.
@SeriousName it sure is beautiful. Looks like a fancy pheasant.
He's a little bantam☀️❤️☀️
Paws and Claws
cat food is really high in protein I mix it with their layer feed
My uncle, who passed away a few years ago, would occasionally pick up road kill for his chickens because it is true that they are also scavengers. Chickens have these abilities in their strong digestive systems, and so a little meat does not hurt them. Thanks Becky, great video!
OoO that's super interesting! Thanks!
We have 28 hens and 2 roosters. I'm thinking about taking one rooster out because they have about 6 hens who are favorites and are always missing their back feathers. I feel bad for them but I love both my a$$ hole roosters and can't decide which one needs to go :(
You look so good..your hair is beautiful..great length style n color..♡ from Montana
I have a rooster i only put hens that can handle him and keep the rest with the ducks sence the push them away if to close(inlest it pearl their chick sibling)
Worst chicken advice *I* ever got: "Get chickens!" hahaha jk
Oh my goodness! Poor hens. And vegetarian hens? LOL
I have three roos and 14 hens, they all hang out together with no issues. No pecking, no fighting, no hens with bare backs
That's because the ratios are right like I said 4 or 5 hens per rooster and plenty of room☀️❤️☀️
So my mama chicken is being mean to the baby chicks like pecking at them and stuff, should i seperate them? Babys are 1 week away from being 2 months!
What do you mean by good quality animal protein?
The "neighbor" : Just throw all the roosters and hens together! It should be fine!
Me: I'm sorry.... What? .... Why would you do that?
I have a thing
I have a fully grown rooster(he keeps violating my poor hens and takes off their back feathers >:0)
And 8 fully grown hens
And 2 half grown "hens"
But
Just half an hour ago
I showed someone my dear Cappucinno :0, wich is one of tha half growns, and they were like
Thats a rooster
And i was like
HOW DA HECC CAN YOU KNOW
And they were like
That tail is too big for a not grown hen
And then they picked Cappucino up by the wings, and she/her hold hes/her feet straight and down to the ground
And they saud that hens should hold their feet close to the body, its a rooster
And i was like
*shook*
شكراً لكي سيدتي أنا معجب بالبرنامج جداً وكذلك أتعلم منك بعض الكلام بالأنجليزي 🙏👍
I have 6 rooster and 14 hens
Love your thumbnail. Beautiful woman and handsome rooster.
Chickens are vegetarians....yeah right! Toss in a hand full of meal worms or horn worms from your garden and they will love you for it!
You forgot to mention that you can caponize the other two, separate them out till they have calmed down.
I have 10 chickens one time they was one years old and I got 5 too 15 eggs a week from them I kept them for 6 months and they narrative give me no more eggs and that what did I wrong
You have to feed them like I said☀️❤️☀️
I had a rooster and decied to get another. The younger one tried to fight with the older one.I have never seen a chicken run away so fast in my life.
Is grass good for chickens
Yes☀️❤️☀️
💚
They will also eat each other.
Yes sometimes if over crowded or one is sick☀️❤️☀️
wrong i have three coachin roosters father 2 sons they dont fight but they do over work the hens i plan to add more hens
I feed my chickens otes hole corn dog food and laying mash
We had a black hen come onto our property and she would just hang out in the front yard. We keep our chickens out back and away from our home, but we let her just wander. Well, she went missing for a few weeks and then, one day, she showed up with 5 chicks. After a while, she took off and left those chicks here! Well, our big rooster doesn't like the three roosters and our hens hate the black hens. The five, now two hens and three rooters, get fed here and they hang out here, but the big rooster won't let them into the coop. So, they roost at night in our big oak tree. I worry about them, but have no idea how to get rid of them. Any advice for that? I'm elderly and am not able to chase down chickens/roosters and certainly can't climb up on the roof to get them when they are roosting! LOL It's a mess. :0)
My chickens get meal worms every day. They are spoiled rotten because they get bread, watermelon, honeydew melon, grapes, corn and a lot of grains.
Just keep doing what your doing I guess☀️❤️☀️
I have 4 cockerel and 5 hen but their meat chickens
Freezer camp
I love my hen mia she just still a chick so the clue of her🐣🐣🐣🐣🐤🐤🐤🐤🐤🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔
Too much fat like black oil sunflower seeds and such is not good for them. They will develop fatty liver disease, and heart problems. I started to limit snacks to my hens to maybe 5% of there diet and they look so much better. There poop isn't runny anymore too.
Everything in moderation right☀️❤️☀️
What kind of meat do they eat
