Ma Long's serves were a little rushed back then (possibly influenced by Liu's coaching). He learned to take his time with service preparation, and think more about his follow up strokes. This suits his style better, I think.
@@jk9111 Nope. Ma Long was selected for the team in 2006. The players have to play a lot of matches during the trials, so the outcome of a single match does not determine whether or not a player is selected.
What a fantastic defensive player was Hou....incredible reactions Style of play as unique with sidespin like Xu Xin as an attacker was....fenomenal to watch...even after 17 years!!
Now is 4/3/2021, this match must be many, many years ago. Hou Yinghao was a lot quicker than he is now. His forehand then packed with more power and he was a much better player than he won the national champion 2 years ago against Wang Chuqin. Comparatively, a young Ma Long did much better against a better version of Hou than a young Wang Chuqin losing to an older, slower. and weaker Hou. I think Wang lost really bad and was no threat to Hou. Good as Wang is now, but I think he has little chance to achieve what Ma Long did in TT.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma_Long_(table_tennis) Yingchao was very good here and lost a couple of games because of some unnecessary errors at important moments. Ma Long was just starting on his pro career. He made some costly errors too and lost the last two games.
Joo Se-Hyuk had a better ranking history. Hou made it to #8, Joo to #5 but Joo was in top 20 UCB longer then Hou. His pure athleticism kept him high ranked for years. Even now Joo in 200’s ranking wise while Hou is in 400’s ranking wise.
Incredible! Hou Yingchao! After more than 10 years, still in such a good form. Great match by the Chinese National Games Champion!
Wow 17 year old Ma long was already a world class level!!
too late to become famous, but he made it !
Backhand chopers have always been amazing!!
10:02 what a backhand!
All we can do is watch ma long's throwback games..

Great match! Both players are amazing!
Блин!Неужели это когда-то было....
I can't believe He chopping very well with short pips.
Not the Chinese super league, these were the trials to determine who would be on the men’s team for the 2006 WTTTC
Oh you mean Ma long was disqualified from the national team at WTTC in 2006? That's interesting

I thought it was strange that for a CTTSL game, there weren't any screaming fans and WLQ is just sitting around on the next table watching the match.

great play
спасибо отличный матч из архива

Ma Long handled him way better than Wang Chupuin did.
Great video man. Nice tb
The best attacking players to handle choppers that I've seen are Xu Xin and Waldner.
... and Timo Boll.
@@joecool7127 ---True---
Sorry - True. Samsonov is also a wall against defence.
Hou used a less spinny rubber but much better ball control. The current rubber despite lots of spin but much less control.

Who do you think is better : Hou Yingchao or Joo Se-Hyuk.
Joo Se Hyuk. More offensive power and better defense too.

Ma Lin handled choppers better than Ma Long.
