You can't retire the unit if it intercepts the effect is when the unit is on place. Intercepting isn't placing it's moving. I've been judge called on this effect
According to the comprehensive rules that is updated to the latest version (1.47.1), there are two sections that support the fact that "putting" and "moving" are the same thing and can be retired due to [Mayhem Tiger]'s effect.
Section 7.5.1.2.4. Guard Step
The non-turn player may
choose a unit with (intercept icon) in his or her
front rear-guard circle that is not being
attacked during this battle, and PUT it
into his or her guardian circle in the
rest state. At this time, the non-turn
player chooses which unit it will guard
among the units being attacked.
Section 10.32. To move
10.32.1. When “move” or “put a unit on a circle” is
written in text, it refers to a unit placed within
the field being placed on another circle within
the field.
Mayhem
Tiger doesn’t say when Placed. It says when put. Small technicality.
Yes correct. If Mayhem Tiger says "when placed" then intercepting would not get the unit retired. But it says "When you opponent PUTS...", so intercepting will still get the unit retired.
Andrew Neidetcher, if the judge ruled against you when you say you wanted to retire the intercepting unit, then he needs to get a refresher lesson.
