In July I had a friend who shot a wedding with me, I was doing photos (Canon R6) and he was doing video (A7IV), by the end of the wedding we went outside for night shots with no flash and no lights, and I was shooting at iso 20.000, 1/30, f2.8 and he did 60fps with no noise on the shots, probably at iso 51.200...sony got my attention on that!
Great comparison! I've used the FX3 quite a bit, but it was loaner. I just bought an FX30 a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. I have all crop glass so it made sense, plus the price for such a powerhouse of a camera is ridiculous. Coming from an FS5, the noise floor at 12800 is perfectly acceptable to me. On the FX3 of course it's going to be better, but on the FX30, it's fine. I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to, but a bit of noise reduction and it's perfectly useable. I've seen a lot of complaining about it, but it's a great camera, even for someone like me whose been doing this for almost 20 years. Most of the time I'm lighting my shots anyway. Perspective! Anyway, it's a great cam. I would have loved an FX6 because it's got a very similar form factor to the FS5, but it's expensive and using the FX3 made me realise that my back loves a small setup!
Very good and analytical video. One thing holds me back for the fx30: The EVF! In bright light (here in Greece...) the camera is useless. To buy an external monitor is not the right solution, cos the portability and lightweight of the camera is gone...
Thanks mate! Yes, EVF is a very nice touch, that’s why I didn’t get FX3 against my a7s3. But to be honest I use on-camera monitor 95% of the time. Stay tuned mate!
Which is better for hybrid folks who lean video to do a7iv or fx30 for video and a7C or a6600 for photo? Run and gun work with no lighting just natural light in 24p
I need long recording times so the fx30 seems like the one to get , or the fx3 I will be using zoom telephoto lenses so the fx30 makes more sense to me over the fx3 as I would get the 1.5 crop in addition to clear image zoom which will provide an additional up to 1.5 zoom on top of that so say with the Tamron 2.8 35-150 I will be getting 52-337 which is pretty sweet with the fx30 oversampled sensor. the fx3 doesn't have that oversampled sensor , and you loose face tracking when clear image zoom is engaged , not sure if its the same on the fx30.
This is such fantastic comparison, NO limits ON. Just curious, but Which input color space and video monitor LUT do you use while editing on DaVinci? I love HLG3 for Sony haha
Hi mate thank you for the vid! I have the A7iv and its a great camera! i don't know if its just me but the video from the FX30 looks a more cinematic there's something more pleasing in the colours even with colour grading. What do you think?
Thank you very much for your video, I hesitate between the two cameras. at 23 minutes 43 seconds is it filmed with the sony FX30? thank you for your answer. (sorry for my english, I'm french).
Quick question idk if this will sound dumb or not but when using the a7iv at 4K 60fps and using the fx30 at 4K 60fps would the low light be the same since the a7iv is cropping in? Or would the a7iv still have a better look?
Like as of right now I have a a6600 but I’ve really been wanting to upgrade obviously the a7siii and fx3 and both low light beasts but it also costs double the price of these…. More recently I’ve been shooting more night club/ concert recap videos and I’m really just trying to figure out what my next upgrade should be like I would love to get an fx3 but I’m also not doing this full time it’s more like on the side we’ll I’m in school (I want to get to full time but you get the point) anyways any help is appreciated thank you for your comparison video!!
great comparison. I have an A6600 and I'd love an APS-C camera with the same size as the A6600 but with 10-bit colour. That would be perfect for me. I just bought an A7IV and the difference between 8 and 10-bit colour is huge, especially in the highlights. But I love how small is the a6600 paired with sigma 18-50 2.8. What a tough decision for me.
@@NOlimitsON I already have an a6600 and I'm a hobbyist. I'd like to have one that does photo and video well. the a7IV is sort what I needed. But it's big and heavy to bring it out for photo. The a6600 paired with the sony 15 1.4 is absolutely light and inspires me to go out and photograph. An a7IV apsc version and apsc size would be a perfect Sony camera for me
Have u happened to have paired your ff Tamron 70-180 mm f/2.8 with your Sony FX30 to see what kind of video footage u could get of Birds-In-Flight? If so, would be curious what kind of results u have obtained. 😎😎
Great video! Very in depth and just what I was looking for! I ordered the FX30 a few weeks ago and it should be arriving soon. While waiting, I've been debating whether to order the A7IV and use that instead. I recently saw a couple UA-cam videos indicating that the FX30 might not be as good as the A7IV for shooting wildlife video with the Sony 200-600mm. I also ordered the Sony 90mm macro lens. This is my first camera/lens purchase. Have only used my Google Pixel up until now. If overheating was not a potential issue, I'd probably go with the A7IV. Where I live, it gets very hot in the summer and my Pixel 7 Pro would always overheat when taking video. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Won't really use the camera for photos. Also, any thoughts on the lack of viewfinder on the FX30? Some say the screen is hard to see in the sun. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Thank you)) I appreciate it! I’d say you did the right choice, because overheating is a real issue of a7IV even indoors… I always suggest buying a bright (at least 1000 nits) on camera monitor for better viewing experience and some video assist tools. You can watch my previous video on Shimbol 600M monitor - great bank for a buck!
Slog3 at native ISO is hands down the best Sony’s picture profile in terms of color and dynamic range, but you have to expose it correctly and know how to work with it. If you shoot outside - use a good ND filter
@@NOlimitsON In you examples of low light you still have a lot of light, thus lots of dynamic range to capture. If you turn the light off and try to expose at high ISOs, it's a different story. In most low lights scenarios, everything is in the shadows and within 7 stops or less. The 14+ of Slog3 wont benefit you because there is nothing to capture. Anything that is not there will be filled with noise. Profiles with 9 stops might be a better option in those scenarios unless you are going for a lifted shadows look

Yeah, for your needs fx30 is more obvious choice. Unfortunately it also get worse AF performance when you enable clear image zoom
I love the fine grain noise from the fx30.

If you could choose one lens for the fx30, which lens would it be? Is the sigma 16mm f1.4 lens and the fx30 good as a single lens option?
No) I’d pick the sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens. If I only had one - it’s gonna be a zoom lens 100%
