I teach english literature and its always a great time seeing my students horrified expressions when they ask me about the original versions of the stories. Brothers Grim for the win.
The brother grimm tales really aren’t that grim (pun not intended) as people make them out to be. "Ooh there’s some violence", big deal. The original mouth-to-mouth medieval tales, okay, those were actually brutal
4:20 “And this is a Barbie movie?” Omg, I thought I was gonna die from laughter when Mococo said that. I can only imagine she was thinking, “my God, this sounds like the darkest Barbie movie ever.”

German fairy tales are just built different. My grandparents are from Kassel in germany, where the grimm brothers lived iirc, and when my brother and me were little, my grandma used to tell those old stories as good night stories. She also read christian andersen stories and 1001 nights, which iirc arent as bad as grimm. Also, the grimm brothers are the source of the term "grimdark", most grimm fairy tales fall sqarely into the grimdark genre.
@@Stevonicusthe risk makes it hotter (honestly it does but the potential outcome would make me personally not be the one to initiate protectionless stuff)
A LOT of the old tales are like that Rapunzel was caught by the witch because she got pregnant Sleeping Beauty wasn't awakened by Love's kiss, She woke up because she went into labor
I think she woke up, when, after giving birth to her children, one of them sucked magic splinter from her finger, which made her comatose. Or something like that.
There's also that one version of Snow White where the dwarves accidentally save her by being clumsy and dropping her coffin, which causes her to cough up the bit of poisoned apple and somehow brings her back to life. Snow White also got poisoned three times in some versions, and was foiled every time by the evil queen's insistence on using poisoned objects that rely on staying in or on the victim's body in order to work.
The original Red Riding Hood gets on par with some f-uped hen tie out there. The wolf r🐒s the grandma, kill her, and feeds her meat to the red hood, that then gets r🐒ed and eaten by the wolf. There's no hunter.
I love how scuffed Brother's Grimm fairytales are. I wish we get some 1;1 adaptations of them. Be great for the next generation of kids as it was for the generation they were originally made for.
1:40 Here’s a summary. Girl is locked in a tower with only a window. There’s no scissors so her hair grows out of control. A prince comes along and climbs up her hair like a rope and somehow gets her free. The end. In the original he goes blind when he’s pushed into a rose bush. In the Disney one he’s the best male lead of a Disney movie in a decade.
Thanks so much Daily Dose, I love watching Shiori but sometimes I cant catch her due to timezones but seeing these clips of her and Advent are great little moments to catch up on her
Thanks UA-cam Recommendations, New Subscriber! I found a channel filled with Nerissa clips, now I’ve found a channel filled with Shiori clips, my life is completely filled.
Hearing this just says so much with the original Brothers Grimm stories. I never read it but damn I guess they get dark? Disney just made it family friendly
Most original fairy tales are brutal old stories, often to scare kids into good behavior or just because storytellers thought they were more interesting. Since a lot of fairy tales are only known to normal folks from Disney adaptations meant for kids (and not to scare them), lots of people no longer know how harsh and rough the originals were.
I think Nerissa missed the mark on the moral of the story. The peasant made a deal with a witch, and because of that, his daughter married a prince instead of another peasant. The moral of the story is "If you make deals with evil people, you can betray them later and everyone will still think you're the good guy."
1:26 Shiori staring as Nerissa calls a barbie adaptation "the original", knowing full well she is tarneshing the grimm's tales' name. Lorewise, grimm tales was probably ultrarecent in terms of books, if she is omnipotent in history she would be reading books on the inception of hierachal familial relations, the defitinition of princesses.
Nerissa: its actually magic. She looked at the boy and through magic, she became pregnant. Oh goodness, i wonder how many girls stop looking at boys from now on
They told the story of Rapunzel without the tower, long hair, or prince climbing the hair. Or the catch phrase “Rapunzel! Rapunzel! Let down your hair!”

On par with Rosemi's "so how is he gay?" After Pomu describes Ocelot from MGS
what i find totally hilarious is that in moco-chan's mind up to this point she was picturing "barbie" themed stuff... not brothers grimm art...
Oh my god when the twins started to nod at Rissa's insistence that it was "magic" that got Rapunzel pregnant. I'm dying. XD

I feel bad for Fuwamoco and Biboo, theyre just sitting there listening to Shioris unique summary. But at the same time its so hilarious to see.
They're like Rapunzel in the story. Soon Nerissa and Shion will go blind and Fuwamoco will have to heal them.
