    You are an excellent craftsman! This video was definitely impressive. Maple is extremely difficult to carve in. I’ve done some ball & claw table legs started out with maple blanks but decided to go to Mahogany after becoming frustrated with maple. My hats off to you and your shape chisels.

      Thanks Kim. You're right, maple is pretty tough going. I made another pair out of walnut years before the maple and the walnut was much easier to carve. Mahogany is a good choice too.

    Great work and thanks for sharing, now that is what I call a ball and claw foot. I have seen some furniture makers attempt this and surely not all are equal. There are subtleties that many people often miss. I personally like the realistic style myself and I tend to strive for it in my work. God bless.

      Bill Howard Thanks Bill. Give it a go - you'll be just fine. I used 25, 12 & 6mm firmers, 4mm bevelled (home made tiny chisel), 18mm spoon and 6mm V.

      That is correct, Bill, but you will never find a video on “carving a claw grasping a pearl of wisdom.” In the woodworking world this is called a “ball and claw” foot
