my favourite overlooked PS1 game is "The Italian job" (based on the original film) I always think because it took so long to be released and release so late in the PS1 life, but fits so well with the film and great fun
I also had no idea that demolition racer existed on the PS1! I loved it on the dreamcast as demolition racer. No exit. The great part about that game is even if you finish first you could still lose if you haven’t done enough damage throughout the race! So original I wish more games had some kind of offering like this.
The Dreamcast version has new tracks, new cars, game modes and mini games that aren’t on the ps1 version and of course upgraded graphics, HUD and menus.
I dont know any of these games you mentioned here ! But Warjets looks good, the landscape looks great and impressive for PS1.. the mountains look great.
I thought I was the only one that had WarJetz! Some still somewhat affordable games I can think of that still manage to provide a good experience... Blast Chamber - Party game played with up to 4 people, set in a series of rotating rooms. Each character needs to college gems to prevent a timer from blowing them up, while also flipping the room's perspective and tossing their adversaries around. Grid Runner - Capture the Flag while set amongst of maze of narrow passages you must traverse. Machine Hunter - Kind of like a budget LOADED clone. Same top-down gunning perspective. Probably not as thrilling as that title, but not a bad title on its own. Rollcage & Rollcage Stage 2 - Futuristic racing games from the creators of Wipeout with the novelty being that the cars can ride up walls and on cling to ceilings, as well flipping 180 degrees on the road and never missing a beat. The idea was later revisited for GRID on the PS4/XB1/Switch. Plus, each has the full soundtracks (which were sold in stores!) on their discs. Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 - The "lost" Twisted Metal game that SingleTrac created after they were purchased by GT Interactive. Sony retained the rights to the Twisted Metal name and had 989 Studios develop the third game, while SingleTrac released this twist on the original format a few weeks earlier. Spider: The Video Game - You play a scientist who is "murdered" while his mind is downloaded into the body of a mechanical spider and have to traverse the city to get it back. The game is set almost entirely in a 2.5D plane for those that enjoy sidescrolling action. A few years ago, I would have said Soul of the Samurai, which is basically Konami's version of Onimusha a few years before that game actually became a thing, but the price on that has been going up for a little while.
I'll have to check those out. I have a pretty large collection of PS1 games but none of those. I did almost buy Darkstone back in the day but held back for some reason. One game I do have that I think is an over looked gem is Steel Harbinger. If you can get past the cheesy acting cut scenes, there's a pretty fun action game there.
Really enjoyed Silent Bomber on PS1 as a kid, once the gameplay clicked it was so fun! Plus playing as bosses and enemies in the arena mode was a fun extra :D Definitely one game I rarely see on videos.
@@johnhancockretro I got a chance to meet Hiroshi Matsuyama (Cyberconnect 2 CEO) before the pandemic and I told him what a big fan I was of both Silent Bomber and Tail Concerto. He was somewhat surprised that those games had a following in the US and laughed when I told him that I never got past the weird chess simulation boss at the end of Silent Bomber. Super nice guy!
Silent Bomber is an excellent game. Basically Bomberman if Bomberman were a Contra game. (A GOOD 3D contra game!). I was able to grab that off eBay back when it came out for $20 new, but never saw it in stores or Amazon or anything like that, so I can only imagine how low a print run if may have had.
4 of the 5 games I never New so Thanks for sharing.Destruction Derby I enjoyed a demo on PS1.I can recommend “Kingsley’s adventure”/“Pong”/“Croc”and “Bugs Bunny travel in time”.
Thank you John for these overlooked Playstation games, 3 of which surprised even myself! I bought a PS1 the week it was released in 1995 & thought I had played most of it's better games until watching your excellent suggestions here!
To see a 3D game like Crime Killer running at full 60FPS on the Playstation 1 is so extremely rare that I'm going to go looking for the game right now. I get that it's one of the first 3D capable systems but almost as if developers back then used 30 FPS to have "the look" more than being it held back by constraints. 😊
It was in most cases held back by constraints, for example one of the ridge racer games came with a bonus disc that had a 60fps mode, but it limited it to only two cars on the track at one time. Fast racing games like wipeout or rollcage really would ahve benefited from 60fps but they just couldn't quite make it happen.
I think my favorite game for psx is Inredible Crisis, just love that game. And i do think Micro Machines V3 is kind of a overlooked game, just pure joy to play with friends.
I thought I was the only person who remembered Crime Killer...I loved that game back in the day on my PS1 and I bought it because of the 60 fps on the front of the cover but ended up loving it
I still own my copy of Demoltion Racer and i was an avid player of Destruction Derby 2 back in the day . Kinda sad we didn't got DD 3 but in the end yeah Demolition Racer was the DD3 we got in the end.
I liked Silverload and chronicles of the sword both were point and click adventures and both didn’t score high at the time but the subject matter was cool and I loved point and click games growing up. Did play any off the titles you mentioned but did play destruction derby which was fun. The tank game look fun too.
Silverload is a hidden gem, in my opinion. I loved everything about that game aside from the final sequence. I'll have to look into Chronicles of the Sword. 👍

More popular than you think. More popular in Japan. Was remastered for PS4 in 2017. It spawned a spin off Un Jammer Lammy and PaRappa the Rapper 2. Also a PSP version.

I enjoyed Lemmings 3D (obviously not as good as in 2D) . I did have the PS1 mouse which may be important as probably won't be as enjoyable with the joypad- would mention Broken Sword and Discworld as well as they are better with the mouse.
Heart of Darkness is one that I think most will enjoy the 2nd time around .. I played it again this past winter and the game just looks great but plays well and has a TON of levels .. Very underrated and over looked ps1 gem..
