  • In this video I add two more shops based on the LEGO Store from set 60097. The first I make only a few changes to including adding lovely LEGO employees handing out free gifts. The second is converted into a TV and computer game shop, complete with loads of stock, series minifigures and a brand new game release!

    A great little build that looks perfect in its location. The choice of mini figures outside is spot on too. Also, the details in the river trent with your albino croc /gator is very amusing. Great imagination on show.👍

    Merry Christmas! Love the new video. Can't wait for the next one. Instead of building a fifth store (next to the TV store), maybe you could consider building a tram stop? (Or, at least, a "fake" tram stop so the tram doesn't reverse direction, but continues onwards to the other side of the city.) This way, the tram stop can serve as an interchange to the subways station. Further, if it fits, you could consider making the tram stop to be a few centimeters above ground level (similar to the first tram stop on the other side of Brick Bay). This way, the tram track doesn't dip downwards after the Donut shop for no apparent reason. Rather, it is actually dipping downwards to reach the ground level tram station next to (or behind) the Lego and TV stores. After passing the tram station, the tram track can then go back up to the higher level in order to cross the road.

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  5 років тому

      The interchange is a good idea but one I'm going to be pursuing as part of my main rail station. It'll have a subway station and a tram stop making it the place to transfer. It isn't too far along from where we are now.
      The monorail dips both for interest and because slopes cost considerably less than straights!

    This shot with ships, shops, river, metro station and the passing by metro train is simply amazing. It looks very lifely.

    Very good set up with those two additional shops. The TV shop is my favourite of the two. I particularly like the 3D sign out front. I also like the wall of TV screens.
    I think regular viewers will understand the whole barrier thing. It certainly would be quite odd putting one in place as it doesn’t serve a purpose!

    I like how you moded the TV store. I especially like how you made the shelf behind the checkout counter with all the printed tiles of remotes and game controls. A suggestion I'd like to give is put a brick under the green space man so he can be seen a bit better in the window. I would like to get one of those figures. How many of those Lego like stores do you have in your collection sir?

      Raising the middle figure is a simple but great improvement. I think I'll do that.

    You're great at repurposing Lego buildings from other sets. Would love to see what you could come up with for some of the "mini modulars", like 31036, 31026 or 31097. I struggle with what to do with those and would love to see what kind of magic you could do... keep up the awesome vids!

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  5 років тому

      I do have the first two sets you mention although my plans for them are waaaay off. I'll probably use them as a relatively neutral backdrop to a fun street scene because, you are right, they're a bit limited in scope.
      The third set, 31097, I don't have but was considering buying. If I did I'd split it firmly into its two parts and assign a business to each. I'll need to brainstorm if I push the button on them!

    Perhaps this is an inappropriate request, but I would love to see you add a library to Brick Nottingham.
    I am constantly frustrated that LEGO has released hundreds of shop sets and other commercial buildings/spaces as well as hundreds of first responder sets (police, fire, hospital, etc.) but seems so reluctant to release a set representing what seems like a critical element of virtually every community. A library could be a super fun set and presents a lot of options in terms of both the interior and exterior design. In terms of bringing a city to life and giving it an authentic and charming feel, I think a library is one of the most critical and interesting buildings anyone could add to a LEGO city.

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  5 років тому +2

      Firstly, I agree that the normal run of pizza, police and fire that LEGO puts out is very boring. That's because kids love that stuff, but we can do better.
      I was genuinely thinking of doing a small library / book shop in the recent Sanctorum building but then LEGO announced the release of the latest modular bookshop.
      A bookshop and a library might be too much. We'll see. I have a lot of plans and want to do my own modular, then a convenience store, then maybe a courthouse!

    • @comradeinternet467
      @comradeinternet467 5 років тому +2

      @@RobinHoodBricks The modular bookstore does look very nice, but I think Brick Nottingham could probably get away with having a nice, burly, AGGRESSIVELY BRUTALIST library as well. Also, if you put in a library, that gives you the opportunity to include a Spooky Occult Section.

    The three shops would logically have been built by a small local company, so they probably built one building per year, so it would have been cool with a couple of custom stickers so the build years would be 1931, 1932 and 1933 🤘😊

      Definitely no barrier. But if you did truly want to appease people unsettled by the ledge-that-is-actually-just-a-cutout, you could maybe consider making the cutout not a straight line. You could give it a "jagged" or "rough edge" where the edge goes in and out by one or two studs every so often.
      This is obviously not necessary and a straight line there works just fine, but it's a potential option that might make the artificiality of the opening more immediately apparent.
