    I have to tell you I am a new ham getting my Tech and Gen ticket last year. I don't have an HF rig yet but watching you work on one was amazing. You are a great teacher. I hope you keep posting videos. Much can be learned from you. Thanks again.

    A surprisingly interesting pair of videos and I'm sure the owner of the TS2000 was very grateful for the time you spent on the repair.

    I am having a very similar problem with my TS-480 receiver. I've already narrowed down that I too am loosing signal somewhere in the same area so thanks for the video, it will give me some more items to check. I will update with my findings later as I can.

    Great Repair.
    I liked the injection method to find the problem.

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  10 років тому

      Hi Grant, you can use the same method with AF on your Cobra or is it already done? Have you checked what I guessed? What was the problem?

      Thanks for your reply.
      I have not had it on the bench yet.
      I have been studying for my Extra test.(Ham).
      I passed it over the weekend.
      I will look at my cobra this weekend.
      It is a pleasure to watch you work.

    Great video! Just need to find out why the same thing is happening but only on VHF and UHF...

    • @TheConstitutionalGuardian
      @TheConstitutionalGuardian 3 роки тому

      I'm having the same issue; it just started. Main band VHF and UHF has low AF, meter indicates strong signals. Sub-band is okay as expected, HF band is okay too. I can be listening to a repeater on Main band using VHF and the AF will just drop to almost nothing. Turning off the radio and back on clears up the issue. Going to have to dive into the service manual.

    I know this is an old video. I'm wondering if you ever replaced the capacitor to keep the DC off the filter, and if so what value of capacitor. Great video.

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  9 місяців тому

      No, never, simply because it is a myth to put caps in front of the filter to prevent DC to the filter. If you look into the data sheets, there is nothing mentioned. But more important is that I have never found in decades that a filter was failing because of a missing cap.

      @@TRXLab Thanks for the reply I greatly appreciate it. I was going to put on in but then I didn't want to have to remove part of the trace. I know of another that hasn't had an issue either. I have the filters coming for mine.

      @@T0mmy999 I bought a few different 180nH Inductors from Mouser and used one of them. I believe the part I used was Mouser #81-LQW18ASR18J0CD... I do not know if that was the one I should have used but I did have to send the unit out and had it re-aligned and tested and that part was not reported to have been an issue.

    Did you place back the DC-blocking diode at the ceramic filter input?

      Mikael Karlsson Yes of course...

    You have tested many receivers,I hear the ts-2000 is deaf on hf..But you seemed very impressed with it on the service bench..How does it compare to others in your eyes?

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  9 років тому

      tim jude Hi Tim, that is a long story to go into depth but the TS-2000 is definitely a very good mid class receiver. Well this RX has RF, 50MHZ, VHF, UHF and if installed SHF on board. A pure RF high class RX can do thinks better but then you compare not the same league. I have heard the same but it is not true. So don't let you make yourself uncertain. 73

    Good content, lots of repetition, lots of "uh" and wandering dialog. Know what you want to say, don't repeat so much, try not to say "uh" and "uh yah, well". Get to the point.
    Your logic is good. Your test gear is great and your voice nice to listen too if not for what I suggested. Keep up the videos!
