Shivers down my back, takes me back to the Twisted Wheel 69/70s with the Derby boys.I'm 65 now who cares when your a soul lover it never, ever leaves you
Frank Wilson tragically passed away today on September 27th 2012. I feel deep grief at the loss of my lifelong friend. He made a solo record in 1965 which became the most valuable Northern Soul record in England of all time. In 1998 we filmed him performing it, and in 2000 he stayed with me in London and I drove him up North to perform it in front of 2000 people. He swore he would only do it the one time in his life. Here is the 1998 video we shot.
If ever there was a tune that immortalised the sound of Northern soul, then this has track has to up there with the rest of the best ever, what a classic. RIP Frank thank you.
I'm 63 years old, in the US, and hate to admit I had never heard this song. Now Bruce has included it on his Motown/soul tribute album, and I absolutely LOVE it. Some critics seem to want to find fault with the album, but if any of these songs are presented to a younger audience, and find a place, job well done. Get over it and just enjoy the music. Incredible!
What an absolute LEGEND OR WHAT!!!!!! ALWAYS ALWAYS kept the faith becuz of him!!!!!!! You cannot NO way People! EVER EVER EVER beat NORTHERN SOUL TUNES! NEVER!!!!! 👊👊✊✊👏👏👏👏
Growing up in Cornwall i'd never heard of Northern Soul. I met a girl from Hale, Cheshire, down on holiday for two weeks. She played this on her cassette recorder one evening and I was hooked. So, Lynne Davenport brought me here. Thanks babe, wherever you are.
This is the best Northern Soul and Frank Wilson's up there with the best. I hope that when folks are looking for The Boss's new version they come across this and discover that you can't improve on perfection.
I love this song...I first heard it on the TV for the sale of eggs, would you believe. Found it on UA-cam & I have played it ever day since...It really does make me want to dance. I have always loved Motown music!!!!
I just read about Springsteen's recent cover of this song and wanted to hear the original first. All I can say is wow--and what a loss to US soul fans that Motown never released this record!
My all time most favourite Northern Soul single! just makes me want to dance, and takes me back to my younger days, weekends going from one all dayer to an all nighter. Happy memories! never get tired of listening to Northern Soul tunes.
Northern Soul still sounds great 40+ years later and the memories thanks to my late aunt for all the love and playing Motown to me in Mid 60's that led me to Northern Soul.
every time I hear this fantastic record of all time I just dance wherever I am people laugh and think im bonkers but I dont care its the best ever I was in Hobbs store in York just before Xmas with my friend and guess what yes it was playing I went mad the girls in the store was amazed who would have thought HOBBS! GOOD TIMES.
how can anyone describe how great this northen soul anthem is.. frank wilson will live on forever... hastings in east sussex is on its way to northern soul and soon will be the place . the word is spreading fast...you wont beat class and thats what northen soul is music from the soul
Cant get any better than this, every time we used to travel up from reading to the casino someone would have it on there cassette recorder those time were fantastic!!!
For 2/3 years now I've been listening off and on to northern soul on my iPad and I'm getting addicted 16/17 years ago I worked with a chap who went to the allnighters and I would say "yes ok " not knowing what or who he was listening or dancing to now I could cry because of listening too much to main stream music just how much I have missed I'm looking forward to the next 15 years to try and catch up ( as the saying goes keep the faith).
Excellent one of first records I remember on my first all niter at. Wigan, now known as an N.Soul anthem. KTF to all from them days we hold so very close to our hearts. Smeth from Blackpool.
Frank did so much great production on late 60s/early 70s Motown records. Especially with the 4 Tops and Supremes. I'm so glad that he also wrote this absolute gem. it bugs me when great soul tracks are used so often as backing tracks to modern day adverts. But, in Frank's case, I always think - hooray, that's a few more dollars for the great man!
Just read about Frank's passing in Uncut magazine. One of the most iconic Northern Soul tracks. Great history but what a voice and tune. Keep the Faith. baz
