Oh. My. God. I just listened to this track for the first time in over about 15-20 years and i remembered each and every single note! I got goosebumps three times wtf!!!
Haha this is like the 4th time I've come to see your reaction to one of my favorite games of all time. It seriously was a roller coaster of a game for me as a child.
Grandia... A name I didn't expect to hear again... Completely unforgettable music and amazing games at that. Active, bold, adventurous - I love themes in Grandia - they always combined music to convey sense of adventure. This one is from intro to the first game and displays journey of the adventurer - wide-eyed, fun and enjoyable. Yeah, Grandia is great and whoever is the person that requested it, I don't know you, but THANK YOU for bringing this out. First and Second Grandia are great RPGs, I strongly suggest to try them. Sadly, I found Grandia 3 being underwhelming - a lot of grind and story wasn't as good. But yeah, definitely check first and second ones.
I had all of the games in the PS1/2 era - I found that, over time (G1>G2>G3>GX), the storyline goes from decent to bad while the already-innovative and fun combat system gets polished to a mirror sheen. (GX/Grandia Extreme was a dungeon crawler, minimal story)
IDK what happened with Grandia 3. It was undoubtedly rushed, though at least not Sonic '06 rushed - there was content clearly cut, but what was left was okay. Wasted potential always hurts the most.
I remember playing this when i was 7 or 8 years old in 1998, the first game i bought myself from my pocket money and i loved it... this brings back so many great memories. For me one of the greatest jrpg's of all time.
I love this game and this theme. It's the first thing you hear when you boot up the game and it really hypes you up for the grand adventure that you are about to experience.
I did not expect this one; this brings back memories. I'm glad you gave it a shot! Yes, this is an extended version of the title theme (the in-game version is mostly the main motif that you hear early on with little to no of that nice funky stuff). The combat system is really, really good (real-time combat that pauses when it's time to input a command on the menu -- there is an intentional delay between input and execution, which means attacks can get blocked or interrupted), and just gets better over time, though the story suffers greatly in Grandia 3 and Extreme. I'd say the combat system compares favorably to the one in Xenogears, and that's saying a lot - very different systems, both are amazing. Xenogears has great music, too - check out the remix album "Xenogears: Creid" if you have time. The first two games, if you'd like to check them out, are on Steam for cheap.
Not gonna lie until about 1:50 when it upped the tempo it felt like I was listening to the intro to Dallas or some other 80-90's soap opera show.... But even after still feels like I'm listening to some 80s show intro song... Really nostalgic :)
PS1 JRPG intros hit on a whole other level that we've never been able to recreate. Back then, they aren't just trying to open a game, they were showcasing what they capable of on brand new hardware. They were flexing.
Grandia is probably the most overlooked ps1 rpg as it came out during the big rpg boom and just didn't catch on as much sorta like legend of dragoon. Grandia did atleast get 1 sequel.
And now here for real, I forgot that the violin theme that was played there was also an important theme in Grandia 2, and I teared up from nostalgia. Thanks to your friend for requesting this ♥ This should be the title theme, I think, as I hear that beginning whenever I start the game, still need to beat it :D I think the Grandia games are somewhat under the rug. Especially 2, because it had a similar storyline to FF10 but didn't have that big name backing it up. It came up again lately as the remastered HD anniversary editions came out, so I hope more people find it, because I really love its combat system and stories! Fun fact: We Germans were really amused by the re-release of Grandia 2 as it also got a German translation. And when you hit a monster and missed, "Fräulein!" would pop up, which means "Miss!" but in the meaning of "young lady" 😂
Grandia was my first RPG back in the day. I loved it and it certainly influenced my video game taste dramatically. I've actually been playing the Switch Version over the last couple of weeks, half expecting that it's not as good as I remember it. But no, it's still a great game and maybe even my favorite JRPG overall.
JRPG to many is Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but there are many more that deserve to be recognized, because they're bringing certain things to the table that makes them special. I remember back then, there was a nice little article in my video game magazine mentioning this little gem and the surprisingly heartfelt report stuck with me. A while later, I noticed the game in the store and I remembered the article. So I just bought it and popped it in. As soon as this theme played, I understood everything the reviewer was talking about, because it's all in there. It's like an abstract of a story. You immediately feel the sense of adventure. You feel, that it is a more light-hearted story than say FF7. Of course, there's still a world-threatening plot to be unraveled and such and there are some moments of loss and saying goodbye, that make your eyes misty. The variety of instruments in there also speaks of the wonders of the world that you will discover. The orchestra, the emphasized flute, a little bit of harp and then an e-guitar in the mix, and nothing feels out of place. In a word: It's a delight. :D
Hearing this again after decades makes me nostalgic... I was kinda sceptical when I first played the game since the main character was a boy in his mid teenage, unlike most other RPGs I've played up to that point. But I marched on, and found myself enjoying the lighthearted sillyness and adventurous plot. Though it could indeed have genuinely gloomy moments too. Justin just grew on me, and Feena was cute. I believe it's also the second time I played an rpg on PSX with some voiced lines (the first being Valkyrie Profile and the third was Star Ocean: the second story), so it's also quite special for the young me back then. One more jrpg of PSX era that left a fond memory for me was Wild Arms. The opening theme was pretty good that I still listen to it from time to time up until now. ua-cam.com/video/9m5cGfQICtU/v-deo.html Just in case anyone is curious 😊 Also, ua-cam.com/video/fgSVf2HPC7E/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/MjMT8x4pexE/v-deo.html From the second game
I just found your channel, and saw two of your soundtrack reactions and was wondering if you reacted to the Theme of Grandia and to my surprise you did and I am glad you enjoyed it! You should listen to "Duel with Gadwin", "Delightful Adventure" and "Four Tensions in Succession" also from the Grandia OST.
Oh no, oh no, I have no access yet and won't be there at premiere, but here a hype comment before it starts, because I'm very much in love with Grandia 2 and the music in both games is really good :D
Grandia is one of my personal favourite games of all time, it is VERY underrated but does have something of a niche cult following. Honestly it's always somewhat surprising whenever someone even mentions it as it seems to be a mostly forgotten classic, even when the first 2 games got a switch remaster a little while back it just flew under the radar.
Grandia II is my favorite game of all time and the Grandia theme is integrated into several pieces of the soundtrack. It makes me go feral every time. Truly an underrated masterpiece.
This game has such a great beginning. The entire section from the start up to the end of the world is flawless execution in my opinion. After that it becomes a bit more uneven but still a very good game.
Oh damn, Grandia! This series has some of my favorite music in... anything. Hope you check out some of the battle themes from the series eventually, like Battle 3 from this game, or Fight Ver. 1 from Grandia 2, or even... any of the battle themes from Grandia Xtreme, really. They're really good stuff. Noriyuki Iwadare makes some really good music.
90s anime aesthetics (music and imagery) are unbeatable, man, I swear. I'm excited for you to go down this rabbit hole because, IMO, it's so much more interesting than most of what comes out today. Maybe the production wasn't as good or clean, but there was so much heart and soul.
This music made the story of this 14 year old leaving home for the first time much more impactful. But Grandia was released the same year as Final Fantasy 7 on he Saturn and 2 years after on the PS2 so at the time it was dated and we where spoiled for JRPGs at the time. It's also kind of grindy and a bit buggy but still one of the best RPGs I ever played. It also gets overshadowed by Grandia 2. I guess you can also say that Grandia 1 was very kiddy. Like the 2 starting people you control is Justin and Sue and they are 14 and 8 respectively and it really does play more like a Disney film. It might have not hit the right demographic.
Very 80s Japanese Saturday morning cartoon. Like the 14 year old boy robot pilot is having s triumphant victory over the villain of the week as the sun sinks into the horizon and silhouettes their space battleship
What a pleasant surprise! My nostalgia is through the roof. I need to replay this game one of these days. And thinking back, this song is such a perfect theme for Grandia: Adventurous, yet introspective at times. I had forgotten how groovy this is, thanks for that! ... honestly, I'm getting flashbacks to the MC's HORRIBLE german voice.
I remember playing this game in '99 right before I played FF7. I chose this game over it.. The emotions this game evokes throughout that trumps Aeriths death... You wouldn't believe it unless you played both..
Holy crap. I'm posting this before even watching the video, but...I really hope you liked this song. I've been gaming since the late 80's, but Grandia was the first game that truly gripped me in a meaningful way. If you liked this song, might I suggest 'The Sandy Beach of Ganbo'? To this day, I consider it among the most beautiful songs ever written. Just a piano and a violin and a little bit of magic.
Now that I've watched the video: Great reaction! Glad it got you as hyped as it STILL gets me after all these years. I swear to God, this song is the call to adventure incarnate.
the cover art for the OST would have been served better by the scene after reaching the top of "The End of the World". Those who have played the game know what Im talking about.
The first game was a masterpiece, but I couldn't get into the second. There's about four titles but I never got back to the series after trying the second and just... not vibing with it. The first tho... I lost my save on ps1 and just had to go back to it on psp. It made me cry so bad by the end.
If you are diving into Grandia themes.. you really need to check out their battle themes, especially the one from Grandia 2 ua-cam.com/video/jONfsUCAARE/v-deo.html
This theme makes me so nostalgic. Grandia has been one of my favorites since its release on PSX. And what made it so special is how the game kept expanding its horizon again and again. When it first starts there are these little hints about an old culture with magical powers, but you're just playing a little boy in an industrial city whose biggest problems are with other street kids or when he gets into trouble with his mom. But you eventually leave town, meet new friends, travel over the ocean, climb over a wall which was always considered the end of the world, meet strange new and colorful races and cultures, avoid being eaten or being sacrificed to some god by being thrown into a volcano via catapult, travel yet another ocean with dangerous mermaids, fight the military, find the old mystical culture from the beginning and eventually rescue the whole world. And during all that there is always a great balance between the increasingly more dangerous looming threads, a really wholesome humor and very emotional and sad moments. I really can't explain it, you have to have been on this journey to fully understand it, but the different facets of this song always remind me of all these funny and sad moments and all the friends we made along the way. Something like: travel around the world, collect these things, rescue the girl, done. Then there was a spinoff on the gameboy named Grandia: Parallel Trippers, where you travel from our world into the world of Grandia 1, which never came to the west, Grandia Xtreme, which was all battle-focused with no real story, Grandia 3 which, again was set in a new universe and was sadly another letdown. The story was a bit more complex compared to 2, but not on the level of the first game and this one didn't even get a big fanbase like the second game. Ah Grandia, one of the games any self respecting JRPG fan owes to himself to play at least once, start to finish. And don't let the overall cheerful music fool you one bit, this game is *not* at all cheerful at times.
This is my most favourite game of all time. Most prefer Grandia 2, which I love so much also but Grandia was the first and was replayed so many times. Best theme.
Imo people who like grandia 2 it was their first grandia but for the people who played grandia 1 as their first Grandia 2 doesn't have the same magic as the first game they lost that that light heartedness and sense of adventure don't get me wrong I still enjoyed 2 but 1 will always be my favourite
Thanks Bro! Favorite JRPG of all time!
And you're right it was on the PS1 Jampack demo's...played it once and I had to have it!
Oh. My. God. I just listened to this track for the first time in over about 15-20 years and i remembered each and every single note! I got goosebumps three times wtf!!!
Grandia has music that goes so well with the theme of the game. Adventure and love, with that mixture of sad goodbyes
This type of song makes me cry just like that, out of nowhere. Chills.
Haha this is like the 4th time I've come to see your reaction to one of my favorite games of all time. It seriously was a roller coaster of a game for me as a child.

Agreed Grandia 2 was the last Grandia.
Hot damn that chorus is jazzy as heck. This is a genre I have very little experience with but this song is instantly getting added to my library.
My childhood memories come flooding back when I played this game back then.
I remember playing this when i was 7 or 8 years old in 1998, the first game i bought myself from my pocket money and i loved it... this brings back so many great memories.
For me one of the greatest jrpg's of all time.
THis is pure nostalgia for me. Played all Grandia games, but this one actually 4 times. This is formost the best jrpg.
Grandia had some bangers for damn sure. Such an amazing series that deserved more than it got.
3:06 that's my exact reaction everytime I hear this part and remember the scene it plays in the game 😂
I love this game and this theme. It's the first thing you hear when you boot up the game and it really hypes you up for the grand adventure that you are about to experience.

I still go back and play this game every few years, and it still makes me cry. Grandia 1 - 2 man, those games are hard to match, even today.
PS1 JRPG intros hit on a whole other level that we've never been able to recreate. Back then, they aren't just trying to open a game, they were showcasing what they capable of on brand new hardware. They were flexing.
I love this song! It really speaks to the whole idea of and discovery adventure that is a huge focus of the game.
Oh man, that blast from the past.....I forgot I needed this in my life lol
There was a demo for Grandia on Playstation Underground! It's how I was sold on the game.
Grandia is probably the most overlooked ps1 rpg as it came out during the big rpg boom and just didn't catch on as much sorta like legend of dragoon. Grandia did atleast get 1 sequel.
Technically three sequels, but we don’t talk about Xtreme or III, lol
I played the demo to this back in the day and immediately knew I needed it in my life still one of the best jrpgs iv'e ever played.
And now here for real, I forgot that the violin theme that was played there was also an important theme in Grandia 2, and I teared up from nostalgia. Thanks to your friend for requesting this ♥

This theme really fits the beginning of the game when two kids leave their home behind to go an adventure.
Listening to this theme is an entire adventure in itself. Absolutely amazing. :)
Now that's some good vibes, right in the kokoro
Grandia is actually my second favourite rpg on the ps1 xD Legitimately it's one of my fondest childhood games.
I used to pop the game in just to listen to the theme...soo good....the feels.
Oh no, oh no, I have no access yet and won't be there at premiere, but here a hype comment before it starts, because I'm very much in love with Grandia 2 and the music in both games is really good :D
This reaction is a pure joy to watch 10/10!
More Grandia this weekend
I would absolutely love it, if you played at least the first 2 Grandia games, I'm certain you would too! :)
Oh man… Grandia II has my favorite Battle Theme of all time. Love me some Grandia, they really put work into the soundtrack.
The soundtrack of Grandia is really amazing. So many good tracks on there. My favourite is Leen's Love Theme. That just goes right to my core.
Grandia II is my favorite game of all time and the Grandia theme is integrated into several pieces of the soundtrack. It makes me go feral every time. Truly an underrated masterpiece.
Also the composer did the in-park music for Tokyo Disney so you're like...not wrong.
This game has such a great beginning. The entire section from the start up to the end of the world is flawless execution in my opinion. After that it becomes a bit more uneven but still a very good game.
I got 70s movie vibes man.. Such a cool track
Oh damn, Grandia!

You should listen to "Farewell Sue" or "Leens love theme" from the same ost. They're absolute amazing tracks as well
Oh if you're going through Grandia's OST, the Grandia 2 Normal Battle theme is so good. Iwadare is such a good composer.
Grandia has stellar music. I can never forget A Deus from Grandia 2 opening.
Very 80s Japanese Saturday morning cartoon. Like the 14 year old boy robot pilot is having s triumphant victory over the villain of the week as the sun sinks into the horizon and silhouettes their space battleship

I like your reaction when the solo gutar comes in
I love the Grandia theme but it does sound like an upbeat soap opera theme from the 1970s, similar to Dynasty
I got goosebumps hearing this again
I need to play this game :0 this music is everything
This OST was really good.
you need to listen to "edge of the world", "dull with Gadwin" and especially "approaching crisis"
I remember playing this game in '99 right before I played FF7. I chose this game over it.. The emotions this game evokes throughout that trumps Aeriths death... You wouldn't believe it unless you played both..
I've only played like an hour or so of grandia
Such an underrated gem of a game as well as soundtrack... #AllTheChildhoodMemories

This makes me miss my Dreamcast.
😭 love this game and his music so hard.
That brings back memories. Shame you didn't had whole opening to go along with the music, it would have been much better experience.
Oh man what a classic!
Speaking of classic, I’ve seen your profile pic somewhere…
John Paul Young - Love Is In The Air
Wow, I love this game, its in my ps3

I liked parts of it and it has its fans, but it really wasn't anything like the first one. It was just the same name and similar systems put on a very flat story. And finally there was Grandia Online, which I don't know anything about.
Can you listen ULTRAKILL's soundtrack?
So groovy
Ah Grandia, one of the games any self respecting JRPG fan owes to himself to play at least once, start to finish.
And don't let the overall cheerful music fool you one bit, this game is *not* at all cheerful at times.
Revenge Twofold FFXIV theme
This is my most favourite game of all time. Most prefer Grandia 2, which I love so much also but Grandia was the first and was replayed so many times. Best theme.
Imo people who like grandia 2 it was their first grandia but for the people who played grandia 1 as their first Grandia 2 doesn't have the same magic as the first game they lost that that light heartedness and sense of adventure don't get me wrong I still enjoyed 2 but 1 will always be my favourite
