Vintage Bird's my #1 pick on my all-time team. Besides numbers, 3 MVP's with 4 runner-up years, and scoring/rebounding/assist averages, and 90/50/40 years, and defense, he just made his team that much better. They are one bad foul call away from Eastern Finals which they would have won. Bulls were Pippen's team too. That's why still Jordan disparages Pippen because he knows his legacy is wrapped up in him. Bird is the Wayne Gretzky of baseketball knows where everyone is all the time.
That was pippens greatest achievement without MJ. Bird was a superstar, but the rest of the Boston starters were super talented, too. You could argue that they had one of the top five power forward all time (along with J.Worrhy, K.Mallone, Charles Barkley, T.Dunkan).

He was plenty athletic!!! Most importantly, he knew that he was athletic enough.
He certainly had the strength and he actually had a quick first step- which isn’t the same as being fleet of foot. Bird drove past many defenders. Also, he had this array of fakes that made him so hard to guard. Of course, the other thing was how he anticipated and read what was happening on the court.
