It's an awesome design. Just like the Merkava, you will not find anything like it and just like the Merkava it is by far the best tank for what it was made for. For the certain tactics, for the specific terrain and environment, for the known type of the engagment with the enemy. Both are outstanding tanks with top notch engineering and build quality. Thank you both Sofie and Stefan.
@@toimistotuoli1200 Well it was a tank that never been used in war/battle. That obviously sets it among all the best tanks in the world - all those that served for keeping peace and never needed to be engaged in fight. From this perspective its kinda simmilar to Soviet JS-3 tank. This one did saw a tiny bit of action but mostly worked to scare opponents and make 'em steping away from confrontation. Still in case of JS-3 I would rather call it a "terror tool" not any way for maintaining peace.
Sofi, you talk the talk & walk the walk! Another great video with a great information & unusual tanks. You really find the best equipment, always fascinating! Great driving!
I remember seeing an S tank in a book as a kid and I could not figure it out. It looked more like some kind of bridging device with a large gun. So cool.
TFW you get to take a dirty tank by its toe hook... These series of videos are great I really enjoyed them. They are fun and educational without Sofi I would have never known this place existed. Y'all did a fantastic job I hope we get to see more. Getting to listen too Stefan knowledge is delightful
It was a clever and sophisticated design. Sometimes the ultimate sophistication is simplicity. Was there a derivative of the Strv 103C as a reconnaissance vehicle? Would have been very effective in hiding and scouting with its low silhouette?
@@davidmurphy8190 No, it was always a MBT, but there was a development program to make it into a UAV, but back in the 1990:s the program was cancelled since it was considered to futuristic.
I like these videos a lot and I can't get enough of Sofilein's enthusiasm and beauty 😍 But as for the "S Tank" not being a tank, was the first tank ever to enter a battlefield without a turret not a "TANK" ? It's a tank and don't argue with me, my reply will simply be "It's a tank" ! Don't need a think tank to know that 🤣
A tank has an auxiliary machine-gun. German turret-less AFV's didn't have them and besides their crew wore artillery uniforms. It has nothing to do or it has a turret or not.
If we ask the corollary question, why isn't an AFV with a big gun in a turret a tank? e.g. a Hellcat or a Wolverine if you go by how they look, they look more stereotypically like a tank than an S-tank. The answer is the role the vehicle is intended for and their ability to perform and survive in that role. So if you forget that you are a tank destroyer and have paper thin armour you're going to get your self in trouble. The S-tank is a tank because it was intended to fill the role of a tank and had the specifications needed to perform that role.
I was curious about the S-tank's hydraulics and whether they constantly leaked hydraulic fluid as in my engineer battalion we had ACE (Armored Combat Earthmover) dozers with a fixed blade that used hydraulics much like the S-tank. The entire dozer tilted in whatever direction which was how the blade was operated. My experience with them was that they were complicated, leaked gallons of hydraulic fluid and maintenance was pretty intense with them. Stefan stated the S-tanks were complicated so I wonder if they experienced similar problems. The small crew of the S-tank would also be detrimental as maintenance duties would be quite demanding. (I experienced this firsthand switching from driving an M113A3 for a squad in which you had plenty of muscle for maintenance compared to when I drove our platoon commander and me, myself, and I had to do all of it. Trust me, soldiers will vanish into thin air as soon as they see someone doing maintenance.)
You can still point the gun with one functional track. It will be very hard and slow to target depending on how soft the ground is, or if the damaged track has locked it self up in the suspension. If you still were getting shot at.... you would be wise to abandon the tank. Turret or not
Sofilein is a great host for anything tank related, her charisma coupled with her genuine interest for tanks is a magnificent combo.

Strv 103 S-tank has my vote as one of the best tanks ever built
Ummm
Are you stupid or something
It's an awesome design. It is by far the best tank to fulfill the requirements it was needed for.

I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to watch someone other than a mature man discuss tank minutae with so much enthusiasm. Thank you, Sofi!
Still and excellent modern day Stug. A defensive dream.
Just watched all five parts of this series. Very well done! I enjoyed them very much.
Sofilein is absolutely amazing. Great interview, Thanks!
you should check out her channel, she also does tank videos on World of Tanks North America with the Chieftan.

Do tanks have toe's?
Someone is Happy as Larry riding in the S Tank!
Great interview
Lucky girl, that thing is crazy wicked...
These two are my favorites in Swedish tree in WT, both are lovely
The S-tank does have a turret. Basically it is just a turret riding on tracks. It is a chassis-less tank

Even though they showed a picture it was the first tank to have a gas turbine engine with also a diesel engine for back up.

Good stuff. Thanks!
Hearing the curator cuss was hilarious
Great series.
I love my old "hydraulic oil monster" as a former S-tank mechanic. But i never wanna see Hydraulic oil never again :) .
I know the S tank is in WOT but I would love to see it in WT someday!
Some day... You'll see it in the first half of 2020
they just posted it in the dev blog and rumor has it the update comes on december 20th. alongside the Bofors SAV 20.12.48
If you can't wait it's now available as a premium
Its in WT research tree now btw
I played Tanks Card games, when i was child,,,the first time i saw S Tanks also French Nuclear tanks " Not Known" !!
The S Tank is not a turretless tank, it's a tankless turret.
Sofi is the perfect size to get inside these tanks. The Chieftain is a Gorrella in comparison !😁
Cool tank!

The original tank didn't have a turret and that's a tank, so the S-Tank has to be a tank.
Not ever beeing in a war. The S tank does fabulous in the virtual war. We never will know
I prefer solitude.
I just found the perfect tank.
A beautiful woman and tanks... what's not to like!
Does that specific Strv 104 originate from the P10 regiment or somewhere else?
are those fuel cans hanging off the side of the S tank
Next to Sophie Stefan looks much bigger than next to chieftain
if a track was hit on the strv 103 S-thank could it be a problem
[ammoracks you from redline]
What model is the strv c, o, a
STRV 103 C om jag minns rätt
Det är en 103C det ser man på bränsledunkarna på sidan. Bara C hade dem.
One hit in the track and it's a dead duck .
That really applies to any tank .
try to hit it first, the strv 103 was to be used in an ambush role so with a 4 second reload i don't think any Soviet tank would be able to hit first.

Fixa stereo tills nästa video.
vad löjlig du är, spelar väl ingen roll i en tanksvideo! - ni svenska perfektionister......

This isn't Katy Perry. Sofilein's an MTV VJ from the 80s brought forward to the future as a side effect of the Flux Capacitor. Understandable error.
