These 3 videos were concise.I had watched a few others and felt that things were missed.I found these videos and all my questions so far have been answered. THANK YOU VERY MUCH1
Nice work! Thank you for showing us in real time. I recently bought an old chair from a junk shop and want to replace the decayed rush seating. Having watched your three videos, I now feel confidant to do the task. Cheers!
Hey. Thanks you!!! I'm ready to head to the basement and start my chair. Your instruction was great, simple and concise...not overwhelming ......Appreciated....
I recommend mellowing the rush a bit and loosening the twist slightly while you're weaving. By controlling the twist, you can make corrections as you go if there are slight variations in keeping in square. Also, it eliminates all those unsightly gaps between the strands on the finished seat. Makes for a much tighter, nicer looking rush weave.
The finished chair looks great! When I was younger I did chair canning and seat weaving as a business. Some suggestions. Don't wet the paper rush while you are working the chair as it will make it swell and then it shrinks later, you could wet it after to puff it up a bit. Stuff the inside with crumpled brown paper bags or unravel your scraps of paper rush and use that. cont.
very helpful demonstration. I now know what I need to do to restore three chairs very similar to the one you did. thanks so very much for presenting this.
Muchas gracias desde Argentina, lo estaba buscando, tengo una silla mecedora de mi abuela que tenía esta parte rota y no entendía cómo hacerlo. Saludos!
thank you for taking the time to do this video. Nicely done. I have just finished my first chair and your instructions were very helpful. Can the rush be stained a darker color before lacquer is applied?
I found these videos extremely enlightening. I just have one question - The chair I want to repair has a loose seat insert - what happens with the corners when there is no chair leg to work around? I would appreciate your advice. Thank you
Tie your ends, don't cut them and nail them, it's better to have knots under the chair, those nailed cut ends will break over time. For a finish you can use any wood finish, the paper is made from wood, I prefer shellac because it is more flexible and won't crackle like varnish, but lacquer is fine. Good luck, I like your attention to detail, well done.
THANK YOU FOR THE 3 VIDEOS.
You're a great teacher.

I ENJOYED THIS SERIES AND CAN NOT WAIT TO START ON MY LADDER BACK CHAIR, THANK YOU.
I saw such weaving in Vincent Van gogh's paintings first and always liked the way it looked.
These are super! 🙌
Felicitaciones por tan lindo trabajo, gracias por su amabilidad

Staining is not encouraged because with time the rush will darken naturally.

Very helpful, how long did it take you to do that one chair

About many hours does it take to do one chair? I have seven I have to do. I figure I'll try to get one done a week. Is that possible?
what thickness of rush are you using on that chair?
Could you use jute instead?
nice job, will give it a go...
thanks man great videos
What color and size (5/32 or 6/32) rush did you use? Where do you purchase your rush at?
I realy like your work. I have two chairs in need of recaning. If you are in nj would you work on my chairs too.
