Before Tomo-chan she voiced Aileen in I'm the Villainess and I'm taming the last boss on the previous season and Anzu Hoshino in Romantic Killer. It seems like not everyone really expecting her to be the person behind these characters' voices. She's really talented

@@masterbaiter3807 it does for the same reasons I stated earlier, and because Japanese doesn't always translate well into English. Go back and watch something in dub, and then notice the immediate downgrade in word choice and dialogue. Also, depending what you're watching the dialogue or scene is cringe/ goofy to begin with. I doubt you think to yourself "Wow this voice acting is great!" When a school girl tells her male class mate that he's a silly baka perv for staring at her 2d boobs.

Nah even though Anzu and Tomo are somewhat similar in personality, Rie's voice is still not the same on those two role, Anzu is more softer especially in some serious scenes. Which is amazing

Rie doesnt just voice the characters she plays in, she sings the anime’s intro or outro song using the character’s voice. Now thats amazing

Rie also uses her mature voice for Sakura from Kakegurui Twin and she sounds great there too.
Another seiyuu who deserves a shoutout for using her mature voice recently would be Nao Toyama. If y'all thought she was great at voicing all the cute girls, wait til you hear here as Sibylla from Spy Classroom.
Don't forget that she does the One Nao Show where she voices ALL Kongou-class Battleships in Kantai Collection

This is not surprising!! She has played as well Anzu Hoshino in Romantic KIller and that rol was sooo tomboy. She has a Netflix interview where she has explained how difficult was in some cases to play this roll. And there were much more crazy voice turns than in tomo-chan as a girl. Rie is absolutely amazing
She also voice young Ard on the anime "The Greatest Demon Lord Reborn as a typical Nobody". You can't really tell it's her.

Voice actors can change voices depending on the character which is really amazing some va's even voice characters that is the opposite of their gender

They used to be considered the voice behind the characters only, since they didn't used to show themselves in front of the camera, but when they started to do that they started to gain fans and are kinda treated like celebrities now .

The level depends on country, Japan gets the celebrity treatment for sure, from TV shows, radio shows, news, big interviews. And often 100+ VAs compete for one movie role it's insane lol
In Japan a lot of voice actors, especially female VAs are also singers and often Idols and many do other forks of media as well and have a huge social media presence so they are definitely really well known celebrities most times.
