An easy thing to remember is that if the focal length is same as the sensor size that is 35 mm on full frame or 22-24 mm on APS-C you get horizontally as much in the image as the distance is. This makes 35 mm lens usable also for shooting inside which 50 mm is not that much. Hurman eye has very large angle of view, over 180 degrees though not all of them is sharp. I do not get where the idea that 50 mm has same angle of view as the eye comes but it clearly is not true.
Well, that's true. If you close one eye, however, it's not too far off from the angle of view of the 50 mm lens. But still, it's not quite right to compare the eye to the normal lens, I agree.
