I was there that day as a fifteen year old lad, i went to watch it with a good friend who's no longer with us. Remember getting the train to tattenham corner and we walked to the main stand getting accosted by lucky heather ladies as we went. When shergar burst clear everyone around us just stood up and clapped,a real spine tingling moment. I backed Glint of gold at 10/1 but was just pleased to of been there to see such an amazing performance. Still have our two race cards from the day, brings back a lot of memories.. Thank you
Back in the days when the midweek Derby was special great jockeys and horses and we got very good parade ring coverage of the horses, not like now with all this running around sticking mike's on anything that moves. Great upload Eddie Cr.
I was very young, working at the Dutch racing newspaper and we listened at the radio, long time ago. Great great horse, so sad to be kidnapped and taken from the thoroughbred industry.
when i watched this video the horse that came after Shergar was called"shotgun"this word made me feel extremely numb and after what happened to shergar it could'nt have been a worser name for a horse Every second of footage of Shergar is in a word--------------"priceless"worth more than money or treasure..............................................
1) ghastly tragedy 2) who are his first & second season foals? 3) every race I've ever watched of Shergar's, he's hung there in 4th or 5th place and right at the final turn, just accelerated in one smooth streak. I doubt if I saw him exercising whether I'd guess his actual speed
Had he gone for the Juddmonte International instead of the St. Leger, he would've gone undefeated both as a 3 and 4 year old, could've ended as the GOAT and maybe even not been kidnapped.
@@kevinmunday5782 hello sir, May I say this particular year was a sub standard Derby field. Also the likes of Piggott, Eddery and Carson mis judged the pace .They not only gave the race to Shergar but they gifted the race to Shergar and young Walter Swinburn made the likes of ' above look like fools. I know their trainers held a inquest into the race with their jockeys. However my late Dad who was a shrewd punter always said there is no such statement as A bad Derby and a win is a win..Kind regards Glynn n Greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands
@@jeanlawley6483 Hi Jean, Thanks for your reply Glint of Gold was a nice horse and as you say he may of won a Derby. Mill Reef was Momentous and Geoff Lewis was a good judge of the pace. A similar situation in the 84 Ceserawitch when Tom Sharp slipped the field and won easily. For me the Best Derby ever was 72 when Lester just got up to win from Rheingold. May I ask were are you from. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🕊🕊🕊

this years derby was the worst ive ever seen. more like the ballydoyle gallops than the former greatest flat race.....so sad to see....

and in a different commentary on this race , peter bromley says "shergars gone for the gun" as shergar takes the lead.....😣😣
It was shogun not shotgun
Thank You, Eddie Cr, for a superb upload. You have a precious archive.
at 22:00 just as they round the home straight, Shergar just destroys the field....amazing ride.
RIP kidnapped CHAMPION shergar
Wish I had been there that day! Thanks for adding this. Great to see it
Loving the extended footage on your recent vids. Thanks!
+Foinavon67 Thanks means a lot
Al Nasr was Andre Fabre's first Epsom Derby runner and it took Andre Fabre 30 years to win the Epsom Derby
I wish we could have seen Shergar offspring
He fired blanks, hence......
The Derby....most famous and prestigious race in history!
not anymore sadly.....

What are you talking about
Greatest racehorse ever
Wrong
Not often you see a Derby winner being eased. It was like a handicapper not wanting to go up in the weights too much
Great stuff Eddie car keep it up
Fantastic!
+LIVELIFE LIVEPONIES glad you like
and nice to see Thommo at the end :P even at the beginning, he was annoying :P what an odyssey

He retired as a 3 year old
What a tragedy Shergars demise,he would have had even a bigger impact on the T.B breeding scene than Nothern Dancer if that was possible, sad.
Brilliant thank you
His first crop of foals were terrible he certainly wasnt gonna be better than northern dancer stupid comment
@@alanwildman7704 nothing to do with times hes talking about breeding

He was a disappointment at stud.

I'm the owner of shergar I miss him because he's dead and not coming back r.i.p and rest in peace boy who was a great racehorse and I miss you
It's a shame that one horse wouldn't go into the stalls & had to be withdrawn as he might have won 🐴👍
only if shergar wasnt there
