Western States Gold Dredging Vacation 6 Idaho Dredge Building reloaded

We had a couple of days before dredging season started do we took apart Gene's 5" dredge and made some good modifications. This video shows how to make the simple mods that we did to his Keene box. He has 2 wet suit heaters that hook up too both motors coupled to the large hot water reserve tank that is shown in the video. With the large reserve tank it gives you plenty of time to pull the hose if the water gets shut off. One of the heaters is from Terry Stapp and the other is Gene's own design which is added inline when running twin motors for plenty of nice hot water to the wet suit. This makes it much nicer than wearing a dry suit because every part of your body gets touched by the warm water. Gene uses standard ¾"emt to build the frame and welded it all together while adding in extra support legs for strength. The dredge can be used as a 4" or 5" deep water dredge with both motors on the other frame, as a 5" with a single motor as shown, or as a full 6" triple sluice when the side boxes are added on. He built his own triple header flare for it and coupled with the 3 stage modified Keene box for the center, the gold loss is next to none. So this is a good video on some good modifications that you can make to your dredge boxes. In the next movie I will go over some simple dredging basics for working with a partner in shallow water. I have been in the river for over a month now and I have lots more movies coming when I get the time to edit them. Lots of great fun with lots of great friends and lots of gold.
