  • From Humble Beginnings to Global Influence: The Jimmy Carter Story" traces the extraordinary life of the 39th President of the United States. Born in Plains, Georgia, in 1924, Carter grew up on a peanut farm, instilling in him values of hard work and integrity. After graduating from the Naval Academy, he served in the Navy before returning to Georgia to take over the family business.
    Carter's entry into politics came in the 1960s, serving as a state senator and later as Governor of Georgia. His tenure as governor was marked by progressive reforms and a focus on education and racial reconciliation. However, he faced challenges with economic stagnation, reflecting broader struggles in the U.S. economy during the 1970s.
    In 1976, Carter emerged as a dark horse candidate for the presidency, capitalizing on a wave of anti-establishment sentiment and presenting himself as a Washington outsider. His victory in the election was seen as a fresh start for the country, but he inherited a struggling economy and faced challenges on the international stage.
    One of the defining moments of Carter's presidency was the Iran hostage crisis, which began in 1979 when Iranian revolutionaries seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, holding 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. Carter's handling of the crisis was met with mixed reviews, and his inability to secure the hostages' release contributed to his defeat in the 1980 election.
    His work in eradicating diseases like Guinea worm and river blindness has saved millions of lives, earning him international acclaim and the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Despite his advanced age, Carter continues to be an active voice for peace and justice, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and leadership on the global stage.

      @@M3333Maybe you should ask a contemporary of the time Democrat that question. Afterall, they ( and the media) did far more to ruin Carters presidency than any Republican. They ardently opposed him on deregulation, yes, a Carter policy before it was Reagans. Democrats opposed his attempt to reign in on spending on what he felt was pork barrel nonsense spending. Finally, Ted Kennedy running against him in the Democratic primaries. Yes, Democrats in Washington did in Carter and they started it in his first 100 days. The media made him look like an amateur.

    Undeniably he truly embraced that sentiment. He's the kind of individual you hope you're voting for;

    With each passing year, I realize that once upon a time, American politics were civil. There were honorable people who chose to serve. Were they ambitious? Absolutely. Now, it's chaos. We have worked for, and have been blessed by God, to be the most prosperous country on earth. May He have mercy upon us.

Jimmy served the american people with truthfulness and honesty at a time when public trust in government has eroded. Despite his flaws, his devotion to truth and human rights is something the american people should strive for and be proud of. Thank you for your service president carter. ❤

    If i was President Carter, and i had to think of a solution to the hostages crises, the answer would be very easy. I would have returned the Shah to Iran in a minute instead of sacrificing a single American life. That is what Carter should have done. The Shah was a brutal dictator. There was no need to sacrifice American lives for him.
    Other than that. I believe that President Carter was and is a honest, good and well meaning man. Domestic events dominated his presidency, and made things very hard for him. But he is NOT anywhere near the worst president mark. He championed peace, human rights, and is the only president in modern times not to fire a single bullet towards another country.
    If it`s true that Reagan`s team prolonged the agony for the hostages for political gain, it`s a massive political scandal, and a HUGE minus for President Reagan. President Carter worked his ass of for the release of the hostages, while Reagan worked with the Iranians to keep them hostage. Is that why Reagan later sold weapons to Iran? (Iran/Contras)
    Jimmy Carter was a decent man, and he would never have done anything to harm American citizens in captivity in a foreign land. The work he has done since his resignation is outstanding. He and Rosalynn Carter has saved peoples lives.
    President Carter will be remembered as a living saint. God bless him, and god bless Rosalynn. They`ve done so much good for humanity.

    Anybody giving him kudos didn’t live during his presidency. That’s what really pisses me off.

      Anyone that understands Politics knows that such a position consumes your entire life. Therefore everyone who serves their country for a decent period of time deserves a lot of respect.
      You give up your Privacy and Personal life and that is immense & admirable beyond belief.

    It should never matter what kind of relationship the president has with congress. The Congress and the Senate have a job and the relationship with the President should be irrelevant. Then they're not doing their jobs if they're letting their emotional state get in the way. That is not democracy

    This is crap. Carter was warned about the Shah's weakened position at the same time telling the Shah not to retaliate against the forces fighting him. So the Shah's timidness resulted in his overthrow. In February 1979 the embassy was briefly seized though there was a resolution it should have warned the US government of how unstable Iran was and withdrew from the country. At the very least remove all US personnel from the country before allowing the Shah into the US. Carter's entire domestic and foreign policy were weak, incompetent and often their self inflicted chaos was a gift to their opponents foreign and domestic. Until Obama, Carter was the worst President in history
