They nominated Margot Robbie for Barbie last year, and Anatomy of a Fall got in for Actress instead. There will still be surprises (Torrest most probably, or Kidman). I don't think Pamela Anderson will be Oscar-nominated, this is as far as she gets.
Yeah last year at this point it felt like three of the four acting categories plus best picture and director were sown up, and they were. Only Best Actress was still interesting
Honestly love how unpredictable this year is after last year with all the sweeps. I hope there are different winners at every televised awards show, spread the love
@@da96103 Missed Pamela Anderson, Daniel Craig, Jonathan Bailey, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Danielle Deadwyler. (I predicted Nicole Kidman, Sebastian Stan, Guy Pearce, Selena Gomez, and Margaret Qualley incorrectly.)
The number of snubs at this year's SAG is insane. Denzel, Maclin, Rosalini, Qually, Pierce, Felicity, Jolie, Torres.. the list keeps going on. Wish they would have been a video announcement, because The Oscar Experts reactions would have been possibly top 3 of their all time reactions.
SAG voting happened before the Golden Globes so the impact of his speech not reflect on SAG noms. Since only The Apprentice is longlisted at BAFTA, Sebastian is getting BAFTA nom for sure. Hopefully with a BAFTA nom, votes dont split for Oscars and he can make it.
Exactly. Plus, international voters seem to be responding really favorably to the film. Something tells me that a lot of those international votes (for The Apprentice, in particular) are what could get Stan a surprise nomination, at least that's my hope.
Wicked getting into every category shows that SAG loves it. If Ariana can win Critics Choice (which I think she will), she's definitely back to being a front-runner with Zoe.
Except that Zoe and Emilia perez are the frontrunners. If Oscars have shown us anything these years is that they are not fond of old fashioned musicals any more unlike the guilds or Critics
Bailey was a breath of fresh air. Just like Gosling was in Barbie. Comedy/musical deserves a spot in awards circuit! Not every nod needs to be heavy-drama performance, you know?
What happens if Wicked wins SAG Ensemble, Anora wins Critics' Choice, Conclave wins BAFTA? Oscar will remain up in the air until March, and even the guilds won't help us much!
Thats the exact kind of chaos we want! I love when each industry body does their own thing and doesn't try and predict the Oscar winner *cough cough* critics choice.
@ Yes! Would love to see a SAG ensemble win for Wicked. It’s a little surprising it didn’t get the DGA nom since they tend to go for at least one or two big blockbusters each year (whereas the directors branch of the Academy prefers international auteurs). But Chu has barely shown up anywhere this year (sadly).
I think people are just fed up of hammy Oscar-baity performances. Baily ---> Jolie. For a start, at least the man sang whereas hers was a lip syncing fiesta (del failure).
@joeyhollywoo I think this is just an insane awards season and people will just have to go with their gut a lot because precursors will be all over the place
@TheCatIndeed Emilia Perez didn't underperform. Anyone who thought they'd nominate Selena Gomez clearly has not been paying attention to the tv side of sag because she's never even been singled out for Only Murders and that show gets the ensemble nod every year.
People forget the Brutalist lost to Room Next Door at Venice & it wasn't like that was judged by a bunch of Italian Film Critics it was The Hollywood Eleite The same Hollywood Eleite gave Anora Best Picture at Cannes Anora I think is going to have the same route as Spotlight
A24 just didn't need to be cute with their release schedule for Sing Sing. They messed up with Iron Claw last year not getting screeners out on time, but Sing Sing just feels more egregious.
@@CalumRoberts-i1x The juries consist of 9-10 people. It means nothing for Oscar chances. Case in point: The Room Next Door is getting ignored across the board, except for that one Globe nomination for Swinton.
No biopics (at least facsimile/celebrity biopics - hidden figures type stories and expressionistic performances are fine) should ever be nominated. Lazy genre, unchallenging performances. Biopic awards almost always age like absolute milk.

fun fact: since 2020, the best actor category usually goes 5/5. Adam Sandler is the only sag best actor nominee this decade who didn’t receive best actor nomination at the Oscar so they will probably go 5/5 this year too.
@@gabrielfernandes3117 Craig, Chalamet and Brody are 100% locks in Actor. But the main prize is between Brody and Chalamet. I feel like Chalamet might pull an upset, especially since Brody already has an Oscar (in a similar role no less).
The Brutalist’s muted showing is not necessarily bad. The key metric with a higher correlation, is the PGA. Also, other films without an “ensemble” showing, have won BP: The Shape of Water, Green Book, Nomadland and others.
That's not what they're talking about when they talk about Brutalist bad showing. No one expected it in ensemble but it should have performed like Poor Things. Guy Pierce missing is a huge blow to the movie. You can't deny that. Plus it hasn't had the strongest showing with some guilds.
Adrien Brody is the strongest chance for The Brutalist to win and he got in. Other areas it's bound to do well are Director and below the line techs - none of which are categories here. So people freaking that it only got one nomination need to calm down lol. Guy Pearce was a surprise, but it's not a sign that the film is sinking. Pearce isn't at the top of anyone's list like Brody is.
@ any blow to the Brutalist is overcome by Brody, director Corbet and best film all heavy favorites at BAFTA right in the middle of Oscar final voting. Also, Pearce is really the only threat to Culkin at BAFTA for supporting actor.
@@jurney3478 I'll say this though, Brother Bro moved the Brutalist down to 4th place on the app after this and I think that may be jumping to conclusions. Like it's still the frontrunner for Director and Actor, It could win PGA, Brody's chances at SAG aren't dead either. Like I agree it's a blow but the film isn't dead or hated because of it
@rhythmoriented you can't say they're heavy favorites at BAFTA when Conclave exists. Plus Timmy is a real threat for the BAFTA at this point. Remember they gave Butler the win over Farrell. The Brutalist is a great movie but it's also cold in a way voters never have cared for Ala Power of the Dog or even Roma.
You have to respect the pacing of the SAG nomination listing. First, the 5 lead actors being in sync with everyone else lulls you into a sense of sobriety and calmness, thinking that it will be safe. Then the Pamela Anderson nom stuns you for a bit, but thinking it is a rather SAG-likely option, you think you’re still in the clear Just for the Bailey and Strong noms hit you like a truck, and the 3-hit combo of Barbaro, Curtis, and Deadwyler to drain you almost of your lifespan. Finally, the ensemble list makes you feel relaxed and ready to recover, until the Sing Sing causes cardiac arrest
Let's not lose sight of the fact that the SAG Awards, on Feb. 23, are five days after the Feb. 18 Oscar final voting deadline. They will not have as much influence this year as BAFTA (Feb. 16) and of course Critics' Choice (Jan. 12).

Mikey Madison is not winning SAG, Demi Moore is. She's a better known and respected actress by her peers, she has the ACTOR narrative and is just coming off a Globes win and amazing speech. Don't get carried away by the # of Anora nominations, Anora is on the downturn, it had a bunch of nominations in Globes and didn't win nothing.
The Substance missed for Margaret Qualley only got 1 nomination, whereas Anora got 2 individual acting noms AND an ensemble nom. SAG clearly loves Anora more. This is a race between Moore, Madison and Erivo (Wicked overperformed).

@@Lanaaaaa45 Yes but the selection odds are 1200 out of 120,000-140,000. And you can only be chosen once every 8 years. You forget there are SAG members that live all over the country outside of LA.

All the actors are campaigning for awards season. Hell, look at how many interviews Demi Moore has done. JLC is great in "The Last Showgirl." I like her performance better than Ariana Grande and Zoe Saldana (the two frontrunners).
Jamie barely did any campaign for herself, it was for Pamela and the movie, just like what she did for EEAAO. Kate Winslet did a far more aggressive campaign for Lee and she did not get in.
Muahahaha! The fact that Jonathan Bailey made the cut tells me that SAG really loved Wicked. Which tells me that Ariana is most likely going to secure the win for supporting actress at SAG. The Golden Globes is going to be proven to be the outlier.
Wicked is more of an an actor movie so of course they love it. Question is Oscar voters have shown these years they are not fond of old fashioned musicals so will Wicked score big at Oscars is the question..
@@thedudeabides2531 yes but that does not mean they always overlap. Emily Blunt won the SAG for A Quiet Place and failed to get Oscar nominated for it. Glenn Close won SAG same year and failed to win Oscar. Shape Of Water failed to get Ensemble nomination at SAG and still won Best Picture.

I am not angry at Jonathan Bailey being nominated. I love him & I am happy he’s being recognised. but Guy Pearce missing is a fucking disgrace!! He should be awards winning this season not being under appreciated. I would trade out Edward Norton for Guy in a heartbeat. The amount of snubs at SAG was just plain weird. It’s like the guilds are contradicting each other. I don’t mind some chaos but some of these noms really left me puzzled 🤨
Why all the Jolie hate. Kidman, Torres, Adams & Winslet were snubbed too. Sag is just clearing the path for a Demi Moore win. They nominated the weakest ones to go against her. Her speech sewed this nomination up.
I don't think Kidman or Adams were ever serious contenders honestly. Everyone wants Amy Adams to win, she gets brought up every year she does a film that could even remotely be considered noteworthy. Notice very few are actually talking about her performance this time, just that she may or may not get nominated lol. Kate Winslet was great, I'd have put her in my top 5... but she hasn't really been a contender either. I don't believe Fernanda Torres was actually eligible for SAG which could be why she's not here. But I do agree Demi Moore seems to be the frontrunner now.
Nominations were due by 5pm on Sunday. The Golden Globes results had no bearing on the SAG nominations. LEE was good and Winslet was just fine, there were just other standout performances. Nightbitch didn't feel like a movie you could take seriously enough to justify it with a nom. There was not enough SAG promo for I'm Still Here. I honestly didn't even watch it until after the GG to understand why she won. And Babygirl waited until 12/17 to release the screener.
@@Shera_Travels I agree that's why I think some people really need to use the word miss instead of snub cause they don't know what a snub is. Kieran missing would have been a snub, Zoe missing would've been a snub.
Not sure Kidman was ever a contender but SAG does seem to have an issue with her. Whenever she gets talked about awards for some reason SAG are the only ones not nominating her. The only individual SAG she got nominated for were for movies no one thought would be mentioned. On the other hand the Globes love her and nominates her for random things
A COMPLETE UNKNOWN just made DGA too! Chalamet really is a serious threat, although I think Brody is still out front for now and A COMPLETE UNKNOWN is a lot stronger than we think for Picture. Don’t forget that THE REVENANT was only nominated for Best Actor for Leo DiCaprio at SAG and nothing else and he still won, with the film narrowly losing Picture, so Brody still has a path to win.
When will the industry tire of the music biopic formula ? Like have they not seen Walk Hard? Even more annoying when I’m not there already exists, and is 10x better then A complete unknown, and is more representative of Dylan as a person.but I guess it’s too werid for the nostalgic boomers I who are championing A Complete Unkown I guess.
Honestly expected the Sing Sing snub, but it still hurts considering how amazing the movie is and how amazing Maclin is. Glad Monica Barbaro made it tho! Shes amazing in the movie
I was shocked and surprised by some of these too, but also pleasantly surprised by many of the noms. It's a close race between Wicked and Anora in my humble opinion, which I've kind of "felt" for the past few weeks now, too! And oh my gosh, that jonathan bailey nom was totally unexpected! lol.
SO Happy for Yura Borisov! A Russian actor/actress has not been nominated for an Academy Award since 1977, with Mikhail Baryshnikov in The Turning Point. Hoping Yura is able to secure the Oscar!!
Torres and Anderson fighting hard for the 5th spot. Jamie Lee Curtis really knows how to promote herself. People forget that every GG Best Actress Drama winner gets an Oscar nom.

When I saw Anora, I hadn't yet plugged into the awards chatter and didn't know where it stood. I walked out of that movie thinking it might not be an "Oscar movie" but it was a shoe in for SAG ensemble. My money is on Anora, but I really enjoyed Wicked and think the cast did a great job.
Just like "The Pianist," Adrien Brody is the only SAG nominee from "The Brutalist." Daniel Day-Lewis of "Gangs of New York" won in 2003, so Brody hasn't won a SAG award before, including ensemble. I wonder if this will repeat, or award him his first SAG award.
The Alphabet theory is real here Anderson Bailey Barbaro Curtis Over people who were considered “locks” later in the alphabet like Pearce and Qualley Way too many examples for it to be coincidental. They just check off early names in the alphabet on their ballot
It does not matter who wins at Sag awards this year, By the time the awards happen the voting for the Oscar winners will already have finished which means the Sag awards wont matter this year.
i’ve been following these guys and film awards since mid 2021. has an awards race ever fallen apart as much as *this* one?! 🤣🤣 like, this can’t be normal, right?!
Very important thing to note imo. The last Showgirl campaign is handled by Curtis and Coppolas, very huge and influential names, and you don't need THAT many number 1 votes to get in. I also think that Demi Moores narrative only helps Pamela since they seem like a nice 90s nostalgic, cool irresistible package. Voters will definately be checking that screener. And while Pamela maybe won't make it don't forget that beside ROSSELLINI, Curtis is that respected veteran name everyone loves and she HAS A SCENE STEALING SHOWY, TRANSFORMATIVE SUPPORTING ROLE. Just something to consider. If 150.000 voters voted The last Showgirl, it won't be a problem for the 6000 acting members.
I'm fine with Mangold getting in for DGA but sooo pissed with Jacques Audiard I've had enough of Emilia Perez, the industry is pushing this movie too hard and not even caring about the social media backlash. Coralie could've gotten in. urgh!
I actually didn't think actors would go for Sing Sing, given that most of the cast is made up of non-professional actors playing themselves, which may have lead to many members wondering if these people were actually acting (this is also why I think Clarence Maclin might be a hard sell in the industry for Supporting Actor... I'd have to look it up, but I don't know if there's ever been an Oscar nominee who is so explicitly playing themselves)... they nominate Colman Domingo because he is an actual working actor playing a character that isn't him, but this is why I think it was a tough sell for the Screen Actor's Guild (actors are pretty fickle that way)...
@ they seem very populist in a way that reflects how the Golden Globes used to be before their whole switch-up, which AT TIMES could be a red herring to the overall big picture of awards seasons. with the Academy itself becoming more international and critic-centric i think the new Globes and Bafta paint a more clearer image of where their sensibilities could lie, in tandem with SAG’s input
@@joelvaldes2604 But the acting nominations for the Oscar's is made solely by actors. The actual winner may not be clear cut since all of AMPAS gets to vote on the winner.
@ this is true but when you take in certain trends it makes more sense for the Fernanda Torres, the Felicity Jones, the Isabella Rosselini’s, to get in at AMPAS than say Monica Barbaro, JLC, or even Jonathan Bailey who is the biggest indication to take these noms with a grain of salt in terms of Oscars. not saying they cant happen but SAG is only a portion of where the academy is now, and a lot of SAG is not the actor’s branch either. i just have a feeling these noms are like when cartoons paint a tunnel over a rock wall
@@joelvaldes2604 LOL, I think that's why Actors love the SAG awards so much. Because it's less political. And honestly, the Isabella Rossellini nom 'snub' if you can call it that makes no sense. She's barely doing anything in the movie and comes and does one thing that affects the plot. How is that performance comparible to Ariana's or Zoe's? It's not. Monica Barbaro did fine in A Complete Unknown. But the movie was kinda boring and Timothee's voice was annoying truthfully. Jamie Lee Curtis's nod over Margaret Qualley's really upset me but she's longlisted for BAFTA and she already won an Oscar, so clearly she's still on everyone's minds. The Jonathan Bailey nom was outrageous I agree with you there. And over Denzel?! But I think there's a lot of Bridgerton and Wicked fans who wanted to see him get something. The Brutalist was far too long for me. I stopped it shortly after the intermission because I needed to watch other films so I didn't see much of Felicity's performance. And sadly, the screener for I'm Still Here was acting up so I didn't even get to watch the film until I pulled it up on my laptop after her win.
Three years ago, both Supporting categories went 2/5 between Oscar and SAG (only Troy Kotsur and Kodi Smit-McPhee were in Supporting Actor in both, and only Ariana DeBose and Kirsten Dunst were in Supporting Actress in both), so it has happened and could happen again...
When I read that Wicked got a nomination on Best Supporting Actor, I thought it'd be Jeff Goldblum and SAG with The Oscar would pull a Jamie Lee Curtis on him this year
A lot of people do not think this, but I think it could be a three way race between Saldana, Grande, and Deadwyler in the Oscars. Now, I think Demi Moore will win the Oscars for Best Actress. And I think Best Actor will be Timothy Chalamet. Wicked will win Best Picture at The Oscars. That’s a done race.
That actress 5 is a joke. The Pam Anderson nomination is so similar to Sarah Silverman getting the nod for I Smile Back. I feel bad for Jolie. That was her best leading performance since Gia
Do not have a horse in this race, BUT , imo, Angelina is not very well liked by her peers. As we saw, her ex- Brad- is well loved and won SAG/ Oscar. Have not seen her film, so no opinion here.
@georgialerangis2123 Yeah maybe, although I hadn't really heard that but it makes sense. It's weird too because Netflix usually over performs at SAG. Oh well. I think Marianne takes that spot for sure now at the Oscars
@@gipdef10 That's because Netflix spends $$. They are the only studio that consistently actually sends a dvd, and not just relying on the uploaded digital screener. They'll send a beautiful colorful keepsake booklet. A reminder postcard, etc.
now that everything is up in the air, i really think that the bafta winner will be the oscar winner, and the brutalist looks the strongest for bafta. the only alternative i can see is if anora wins a combo of critics choice plus pga or sag, but i don’t see that happening
Colman is getting nominated but the rest of the cast isn't because most of them are listed as playing themselves. Because of that unusual circumstance I still think it can get in for Picture at the Oscars.
Jonathan bailey as charming he was on wicked didnt deserve any nomination. He barely had any “acting” scene. At this point, sag is basically just a popularity contest, no pun intended. Also, qualley i think is getting oscars nom, oscars loves leading and supporting nom combo. And the fact that demi is a frontrunner, they will definitely give the other one atleast a nom.
Normally, I find both your reactions overblown and borderline grandstanding but with SAG's mindF### nominations, make room on the couch because I'm so there with you.
personally, i think you could attribute The Brutalist underperforming at SAG due to delaying their wide release until 1/17 (same with Sing Sing)......the whole SAG body (especially those who aren't A-list) do not have the perks or maybe the time, like most critics do, to go to the festivals and special screenings The Brutalist and Sing Sing are banking on the end part of the Oscar campaign (like the Zone of the Interest did last year) and letting viewers vote based on recency rather than actually contemplating on all the nominees during peak times (e.g. October & Christmas) I hate to say it, but I think Emilia Perez has been the most consistent thus far this awards season with Netflix putting the screenings out there for all possible voters and the never-ending cash flow for publicity. I think Anora isn't super appealing to older audiences so that makes it more vulnerable than we all think come Oscar season. The Brutalist at the end of the day will be the critical darling of the season bc of its achievement in tech categories and lasting meaning for cinema as a whole. The DGA 5 (Anora, Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave Emilia Perez) are set for the Oscar Best Picture in my eyes. Now 6-10 is a completely different story (except Wicked). To summarize, love the chaos but you can definitely feel the effects of the distributor companies strategizing and going for broke in different ways. It's going to be CRAZY from now until 2/11 wowowowowow
These members all get screeners. They don't have to go to the festivals & special screenings. They go to the special screening just to see the stars of a particular movie.
You do realize that with 120,000-140,000 active SAG members the MAJORITY of us AREN'T A-listers lol? I personally am not swayed by festivals, interviews or screenings. The send us FYC materials and links to watch the conversations at the screenings. I always choose not to watch the extra stuff. Honestly, there's really no time to. Big movies like Wicked and Gladiator II have professionally edited featurettes as well. I prefer to look at a performance for what it is.
I’m curious if Sebastian Stan for the apprentice could get in over Domingo or Craig because even though he missed sag and critics choice, he has a golden globe nom in drama and a win in musical or comedy for a different man, he most likely will get bafta, and it would be odd if Jeremy strong gets nominated but not Stan. I could see a possible Nyad package where you have a pretty strong (no pun intended) supporting contender and an inconsistent lead contender that could still get in (Annette got in over Margot for Barbie who got in everywhere for a strong best picture contender, which Domingo and Craig do not have right now and could end up being lone nominees for their film)
The Screen Actors Guild membership is filled with theater nerds. Of course they are going to like "Wicked" which is a movie made for and starring theater kids. Critics and Awards pundits have been underestimating the film because it is popular with the unwashed masses. I also think that Jonny Bailey's Best Supporting Actor nod is partially a make-up for him having been snubbed for his work in "Fellow Travelers." His fellow thespians are no doubt envious and impressed that he was filming Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers and Wicked all at the same time. Finally, he's a babe and charming as all get-out.

Exactly. That’s why it was wild to see everyone swapping out picks after the Globes. I didn’t think it was a good predictor
@joeyhollywoo I think this is just an insane awards season and people will just have to go with their gut a lot because precursors will be all over the place

One thing is for sure: The Globes HATE Danielle Deadwyler and the Sags LOVE her
Oscars Hate her too

I LOVE THIS season. We NEED more NO CLEAR FRONT RUNNER SEASONS LIKE THIS ONE
I just watched 'Maria' last night and no matter what you think about the movie, Angelina Jolie really should have been nominated.
110% agree
No biopics (at least facsimile/celebrity biopics - hidden figures type stories and expressionistic performances are fine) should ever be nominated. Lazy genre, unchallenging performances. Biopic awards almost always age like absolute milk.
That performance felt performative.
@@Shera_TravelsYou want the real person to act in her own biopic?

I SAW Angelina pretending to be Maria. In comparison, when you watch I'm Still Here, Fernanda Torres IS Eunice Paiva. It felt like a documentary she was that good.
fun fact: since 2020, the best actor category usually goes 5/5. Adam Sandler is the only sag best actor nominee this decade who didn’t receive best actor nomination at the Oscar so they will probably go 5/5 this year too.

The snubs in the supporting actor category was just brutal
Typical for SAG though
Just as soon as I saw the nominations, I’ve been waiting to see their reactions.

@@Lanaaaaa45 Not releasing the Babygirl screener until 12/17 was crazy. It was the holidays by then and then everyone was watching Squid Games lol
You have to respect the pacing of the SAG nomination listing. First, the 5 lead actors being in sync with everyone else lulls you into a sense of sobriety and calmness, thinking that it will be safe.
Then the Pamela Anderson nom stuns you for a bit, but thinking it is a rather SAG-likely option, you think you’re still in the clear
Just for the Bailey and Strong noms hit you like a truck, and the 3-hit combo of Barbaro, Curtis, and Deadwyler to drain you almost of your lifespan.
Finally, the ensemble list makes you feel relaxed and ready to recover, until the Sing Sing causes cardiac arrest
Isn’t this just how most places traditionally list nominees in bulk though? In that order?
Deadwyler was the one I was most rooting for. I think her appearance in Carry-On really helped her.

Why is everybody overlooking Yura Borisov? He has gotten everywhere and is the heart of a top 2 movie? The math is right there
Worst nominations ever!!! Terrible
@PowerDiva kidman really? She got in for paperboy and has been getting amazing reviews on her role even if the movie wasn't good
Nominations were due by 5pm on Sunday.
Wicked also missed DGA.... Feeling that its chances dwindled..
When will the industry tire of the music biopic formula ? Like have they not seen Walk Hard? The Last Show Girl is the New Nyad in Oscars 2025...! 2024 = Nyad duo combo ; 2025 = The Last Show Girl duo combo

And they snubbed Villeneuve, too
I'm fine with Mangold getting in for DGA but sooo pissed with Jacques Audiard I've had enough of Emilia Perez, the industry is pushing this movie too hard and not even caring about the social media backlash. Coralie could've gotten in. urgh!

Alphabetical bias is real. Anderson, Bailey, Barbaro, Borisov, Brody, Craig, Curtis...only 2 S's for Saldana and Strong. Hmmm.
I think Jonathan Bailey and Yura Borisoz will replaced by Denzel Washington and Guy Pearce in Oscars, believe me...!!!
True. They didn’t go for Nomadland and that ended up winning Best Picture.
You hit the nail on the head here. The only one of my best supporting pics that made it were Yura.
The DGA snubbed Villeneuve, it's so incredibly over
Noooo! I hope Denis Villeneuve gets nominated at the Oscars and BAFTA

maybe it’s just me but i have a feeling that the SAGs are the new “old Globes”. i would just tread lightly with these showings
What do you mean by this statement?
@georgialerangis2123 this might be true
Jonathan bailey as charming he was on wicked didnt deserve any nomination. He barely had any “acting” scene. At this point, sag is basically just a popularity contest, no pun intended.

Normally, I find both your reactions overblown and borderline grandstanding but with SAG's mindF### nominations, make room on the couch because I'm so there with you.
personally, i think you could attribute The Brutalist underperforming at SAG due to delaying their wide release until 1/17 (same with Sing Sing)......the whole SAG body (especially those who aren't A-list) do not have the perks or maybe the time, like most critics do, to go to the festivals and special screenings
The Brutalist and Sing Sing are banking on the end part of the Oscar campaign (like the Zone of the Interest did last year) and letting viewers vote based on recency rather than actually contemplating on all the nominees during peak times (e.g. October & Christmas)
I hate to say it, but I think Emilia Perez has been the most consistent thus far this awards season with Netflix putting the screenings out there for all possible voters and the never-ending cash flow for publicity.
Angelina deserves to make it, hoping for a SAG pushback like with Kristen Stewart
This just goes to prove that it was such a good year for movies because the awards shows can't even agree on what the best ones were
I’m curious if Sebastian Stan for the apprentice could get in over Domingo or Craig because even though he missed sag and critics choice, he has a golden globe nom in drama and a win in musical or comedy for a different man, he most likely will get bafta, and it would be odd if Jeremy strong gets nominated but not Stan.
This season is so chaotic and fun, a couple of days ago we were saying Anora was cooked and now is back as a frontrunner 😂
It's probably in like 3rd place for Best Picture but not the frontrunner anymore
I haven’t seen Sing Sing yet (because it’s not playing anywhere!!) but A24 truly fucked over that movie with its distribution
