In Kryvyi Rih, an industrial Ukrainian town not far from the southern front, talented craftsmen and mechanics are building equipment previously non-existent in the country’s military arsenal. “Ukraine as a nation really loves handmade things. We can make rag dolls, or we can make machine guns,” said Sergiy Bondarenko, a soldier building weapons at a metal workshop.

My dad as a child in WW2 Italy said after the war people used to use what was left behind to DIY cars, Tractors anything that was salvageable. It makes sense the same principle is used to fight a war.
And they make some of the finest vehicles today

You can say "viva Ukraine" all you want. Most of Ukraine will be divided up among its neighbors (Poland) and it will be land locked country after the Russian Federation seize the the land connecting it to the sea. Ukraine should have think twice before it tried to genocide the Russians 2014, now they will pay the price for such criminal actions.

no matter how well you're supplied, there are always gaps. there is never enough. most of this improvised stuff will be rotated to the reserves when the better equipment is issued.
DIY weapons can be superior to mass produced. The point with mass production is to generate acceptable quality in high numbers. If the smith(s) have the tools and know-how many things can be made that is better in function, although they often look brutal as using time on looks is out of the question in war. The problem with DIY is the expertise, time and manpower required. It is better to have a million men armed with substandard weapons than 10k armed with the supero-awesomo 5 delta killer plus.
It's about mobilizing the whole nation of Ukraine towards the war effort against their despised aggressor.

No a rifle based weapon that size can’t shoot a drone down that’s 6000m in the air. Not even close I might go for 1000m if that was a 50BMG maybe or a 20mm canon. But it wasn’t so it can’t.
