That one word reveals most/ all of the plot. Basically, a steam engine has been put in a shed and probably forgotten. Years later when the steam type of locomotive was forgotten and replaced, they find the engine im the shed and are either selling, or outright scrapping him.

やえもんはめざらし蒸気機関車です。the reasoning is that his character model changes from a 150形蒸気機関車 then a D51形蒸気機関車 then a mix between other older locomotives.
