    Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is an open world tactical shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Paris. It is the tenth installment in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon franchise and is the first Ghost Recon game to feature an open world environment. The game moves away from the futuristic setting introduced in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and instead feature a setting similar to the original Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. Ubisoft described it as one of the biggest open world games that they have ever published, with the game world including a wide variety of environments such as mountains, forests, deserts and salt flats. The game was released on March 7, 2017 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

      Tbh, this game actually made me want to visit the country. The environments are honestly beautiful and I liked the little factoids about the culture and shit. For me the exploration was the biggest redeeming quality of this game.

      The funny thing is that given his older age on his passing, his bones probably have decomposed, or I imagine it’s just a pile of dust. Therefore, you can for sure say they have milked him beyond a skeleton lol

    Everybody's complaining about being able to tag enemies & see them through walls but you seem to forget that Ghost Recon was one of the first games to use the tagging mechanic that we see today back in Advanced Warfighter in 2006 plus you have the ability to turn that off in this game.

    • @JUMBODEUCE
      @JUMBODEUCE 7 років тому +1

      Rev BladeZ I was thinking the same thing how the game is designed around tagging but in Wildlands if you get to close to an enemy they will detect you so there are slight consequences. And GRAW 2 did make since in the way that you saw targets with your eye piece. I'm just saying it is pretty much the same mechanic.

    Turning Ghost Recon into an Open World Game. Tom Clancy is rolling in his grave.

    • @stinkyglasses
      @stinkyglasses 7 років тому +32

      The fact that it's open world isn't the problem, it's the lack of attention to detail and realism. This game had so much potential but until they update the game to a certain standard I won't be buying it; which is a shame because I enjoyed the beta at times.

    • @christianromero8041

    This weekend, I had the opportunity to try it out for free since it was on the Steam free-Weekend,
    So I came back to this review to say what I think of it:
    I quite loved it. Indeed it does have the Ubisoftitis for sure in that, it's a lot of fun but you will start to feel the inevitable grind from the missions even when you like it. With everything set to high or max, I had around 5 FPS but when I set everything to low, even my computer could run it in 45 FPS on average which was more than enough to enjoy it. The pain of my experience however was the Supply missions, and seeing as I played in the hardest difficulty, I'd rarely be able to successfully take one on without dying in the end myself.
    Aside from that, the very specific mission of 'Guns for Hire' to Interrogate some guy called Sicero or something, kept failing all the time. My first attempt went absolutely smoothly until I decided to jump up behind him to grab him, at which point he immediately turned around from hearing me and pumped me full of lead before running away like a %"%¤#. Every attempt after that would end up with either someone accidentally spotting one of my AI Team mates, some other random thing like a patrol coming up right behind me because I sat on a rock too close to the road ( _my own fault_ ), or one of my team mates randomly deciding that a silencer for his sniper is optional equipment when we need to take them out *STEALTHILY* .
    At the end I just got so #("% sick of that mission and constantly failing that I just went in hardcore to kill the shit out of him and everyone of his goons, who conveniently called in reinforcements, and in the end I think I had killed something along the lines of 50+ soldiers, in waves of 2-3 cars per wave.
    Another interesting moment was when chasing after a medical supply and ending up in the middle of Santa Blanca town, managing to tag the supplies and run the backstreets into a building and slowly take a few out, only to have a Unidad patrol coming by and deciding to join in the fray, making it an free-for-all shootout with me just ducking between buildings and trying to crawl and avoid everything, even hiding in the back of a car towards the end, just to get a Major Intel that was located in the town. Eventually the Unidad won the battle, but one car didn't leave the area, so getting inside a house at the high point, and ordering my people to each take one out, we removed them in one fell-swoop.
    I heavily came to favor the usual weapons I favor in Tom Clancy games, namely the Silenced MP5 along with a sniper rifle ( _the MIDAS I think it was called? Or maybe I just misread my team mate's name as my sniper rifle_ ), and a handgun that I used like twice on sleeping enemies.
    My main gripes about this game is just that it takes up a whopping 60+ gb's of harddrive space, that's just unwieldy.
    And secondary gripe is them having it on sale when I don't have the money to actually buy it. Such stuff pisses me off.
    GOG does it all the time. If I'd have had the money, I'd buy this for me and a friend at least so I'd have someone to play it with.

      I agree on some parts, but I think SP: Blacklist took a step in the right direction after the pandering to ADHD retards with Conviction didn't go well. Blame modern gamers and their short attention spans. Games that require critical thought are lacking these days.

    • @maboilaurence8227
      @maboilaurence8227 7 років тому +2

      MaxPayneInTheAss Instead of blaming the industry, blame the players, they are the ones that have been getting lazy.
      Nowadays it's either a cool trailer where there is a badass character, everything explodes and you can get good without even trying or a game is forgotten on , trying to satisfy those players that actually want a challenge, since people don't care about strategy, thinking or even focusing on it anymore.
      Ubisoft has its faults, but if their costumers keep pre-ordering this kind of games there is really nothing they have to do to change it.

    I like the game and it is fun in coop but there is this overall feeling of half-assed development. It was in development for 4 or 5 years and in that time they really should have managed to make it more finished. Like, they had a ton of amazing ideas but didn't quite get any of them 100% done. For instance, they have the HUD controls but then they sort of group things together that should be controlled separately. For instance, there are a few things that you can turn off but are actually something you need to see to be able to play the game (and the info text even says so when you select the HUD element!). One of these is the selection (1-2-3) option when you find intel and can choose between supply raid, skill points and so forth; hiding it will not let you see the options and the character just stands there with his camera ready and you have to blindly push buttons to pick one option when you reach the intel. So, trying to play it with minimal HUD is possible but it feels like the HUD controls were an afterthought (similar to Thief 4) and messing with them breaks the game because they didn't originally design the game to be played without the HUD.
    Same goes with things like manipulating objects while crouching or going prone. The game plays the "plant a GPS"-animation and ends it with leaving the character standing up instead of reverting back to the stance he was in when he initiated the animation. Same with healing team mates. You are left completely exposed after you operate a barrel or medical supplies or help team mate and more times than not, I was seen because my character decided to stand up after planting the GPS into one of the crates.
    Disappearing bodies is also a bummer. And tied to that, carrying bodies would have been a cool thing; both dead enemies and wounded team mates. Now you have to slide next to them in the most inopportune position when a minigun sprays in your direction while you try to help your friends.

    Looking back, I remember Wildlands having a library’s worth of glitches and some out right game breaking.
    I experienced game crashes, a glitch where your gun will fire blanks, a glitch where your drone won’t deploy, a glitch gun is invisible, the list just goes on and on. But since then, those glitches have been corrected and Wildlands has matured into a very fun experience. I still play Wildlands even though Breakpoint is out since I have a lot of fond memories.
    Those Co-Op Campaign moments when you and your mates pull off some extreme tactical finesse, and pushing through hard areas. And also chatting with veterans and currently enlisted soldiers. Chatting about bullet ballistics, weapons and the stories these guys have during their time enlisted is a pretty wholesome experience.

    SO I've got some questions.
    Story? Memorable characters, set pieces, events, dialogue, pacing etc? (In comparison to others of the genre and to Clancy style)
    Music? Memorable motifs, ambience etc?
    And for more gameplay-wise aspects:
    How would you balance nonsilenced weapons with silenced? Ammunition scarcity (i.e. 9mm Parabellum vs 7.62 vs 5.56 NATO)? distance dropoff? pure satisfaction of gunplay? (recoil, sound design and rarer attachments?)
    Solo squadmates: how dumb are they, and how much can you progress without their help? Is the orders wheel detailed enough and are their abilities to stealth and cover up to scratch?
    Later, Sonny Jim!

      Story - Not all that existent.
      Music - Not memorable.
      Silenced weapons do less damage, that's all I think it affects.
      Squadmates are kind of dumb, you have to give them orders.

    Is it just me or the gameplay of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands reminds me of Umbrella Corps? The way it palys looks exactly the same. I haven't played the game (nor Umbrella Corps), but from what I've seen in the gameplay videos, they play the same way. The way you aim feels the same. The games are third-person shooter, but when you aim, it looks like a first-person shooter. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

    THANKYOU GGGman for acknowledging that the actual shooter gameplay is loose and floaty. Playing the open beta my biggest issue was that the basic gameplay; shooting and driving, sucked! I actually thought the stealth worked fine/was fair and the gameplay variety/levels were great.

    Im having a great time with Wildlands and would definitely recommend it. However i completely agree with Gggmanlives when it comes to the combat, enemies have pinpoint aim while running yet the player has to deal with recoil, movement, etc. I wish the combat in Wildlands was like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for the pc.

    Out of all the Tom Clancy series, it feels like Ghost Recon has made the most changes since inception, and I'm still not sure how I feel about that.
    I hope you don't mind Triple G, and this is just a minor issue so take from it what you may, but I've noticed that there's points where the in game voice chat audio starts to clash with your own. It's not to a point where I can't understand you, but I won't deny that it is slightly irritating. I'd almost recommend knocking that down a few more just to get a bit more safely out of that range as I have noticed this one before on another game that had in game voice chat, or if it's possible to avoid using clips where the audio level spikes higher and could potentially interfere with your vocals recorded later.

      I honestly find the Ghost Recon games to be quite interesting.
      I've been a fan of the series since the original, and I've always played every entry in the franchise (even the handheld spin-offs) to see what kind of things they'll spice up.
      Like with Future Soldier, with its intuitive gun customization. And this game, Wildlands, with its open-world format.
      I know there are some fans out there who are well-divided among different entries, like with Ubisoft's other Tom Clancy games, Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. And like those games, I keep an open mind and try every game in the franchise to see what they're like.

    I had such a weird relationship with this game, I would download and install it, *maybe* beat it or get annoyed and uninstall just to do it over 6 months down the line, I think the final straw was when I finally noticed that using a flip optic (eg a 4x magnifier with a holo sight) when swapping between magnification would not remove the holo sight reticle during animation, It's hard to discribe so just imagine they just pasted the actual holo reticle onto the middle of the screen ignoring the animation to flip the magnififier so the hand would clip behind the reticle but would flip the magnifier into the reticle that is pasted on to the screen... If that makes sense. What pissed me off the most was how lazy it was and it really got under my skin, that and the fact that when your character is in idle no AR fits properly... Except for the M4. They couldn't even be bothered to make a few adjustments to how the character stands when holding any other AR whether larger or smaller. It's just sad to see.

    I find it absurd to see Ghosts knocking foes out. They are not law enforcement, they don't knock people out, they kill. That's not even the type of mission they would go for, liberating an entire region. They're more "small" ops and never being seen. This game pisses me off a lot.
    And I do love your reviews mate. Please, keep up the good work!

    This game is good. But unfortunately there are many points in the game where the game leaves you not well enough equipped for the mission available and without any side missions to do in order to become prepared. So my friends and I deleted it and moved on but it was fun while it lasted

    So its a Far Cry 5 with a few more realstic elements. Nice, thats just what I wanted as a Ghost Recon fan. Not that I expected anything...
    Ubisoft games always feel like a huge occupational therapy to me, without the core gameplay really convincing me. Doesnt change a thing that I can do the same mission on a huge map 36 times and unlock 50 guns and modify the beard of my character.
