super cool! I did see someone else do this recently as well and they used the entire envelope for a journal cover and they added fabric on the inside and printed on that, really fun. Thanks so much for sharing the inspiration!! As for the window, you can buy acetate that you can print on one side. it looks super cool when you use that as the window.
I have used repositional aka removable clear tape which is very thin and does not stick to the paper. In my experience, even the low tack masking tape from Dollar Tree will stick to paper especially when there is moisture, such as when using an ink jet printer.
Oh my, Melina❗️ This is an Oooolala💕💕 AND a WoWser‼️ Love love love this technique 💕 An alternative to the washi tape is micropore surgical tape. It is cheap on Amazon and gentle on paper. I have had washi tape “ chew my paper, but like so said the micropore is gentle, but effective 👍😊 Blessings ~~~
I was so inspired by your video that I had to try it right away. I mounted a "sealed" junk mail envelope onto the card stock, ran it through the printer and "saved" the card stock margin to add a flap to my envelope since the original flap was glued down.
That’s so much faster than collaging the envelope. Love it! (Although collaging is fun too). Beautiful. PS - a printer that uses pigment based inks (rather than dye based) should do what you want. I know Epson makes pigment ink photo printers - I’m sure other companies do as well.
WOW, these envelopes turned out amazingly! 🤩What a clever way to dress up envelopes without adding extra bulk to our journals. I don't know how you came up with this idea, but I think it's genius! TFS, Marci 💖 ✉🦋
Idea: do not put the acetate in the window before you print. Put it in the printer with the window open to the back of the card stock. Then run the envelope through the printer and you will end up with what would be printed in the window on the cardstock. You could then cut that out and use it in the in somewhere else then add the acetate because you're not going to keep what was printed on the acetate anyway. Just an idea.
….my printer snags the opening. It’s just an old HP. So maybe better printers won’t but if I don’t have that opening secure with the acetate and fabric glue behind it, my printer eats the envelope. 🙁
I made these by printing directly onto the envelope. I had to add a new page size , the dimensions of my envelope, to my printer settings and it worked well. No cutting or pasting required. I did print once on the front and once on the back of the envelope. Just an idea I saw on you tube.
Excellent trick. You can also do this with tissue paper and thin fabric. My poor printer has been highly abused the last few years with all sorts of material going through it. OAP transparencies are ok with injet printers as they dry well, as long as you leave them a few hours before using them. xx
Awesome idea. I love it. Can’t wait to try it. Melina I also print on vellum. If you haven’t tried it you should. It comes out beautiful too like these envelopes. TYFS. 🤗💕🤗
Very clever idea! I'm with you, I take so much time collaging and re-collaging it almost takes the fun out of it. Would be so pretty to make a botanical one. Nice idea. Lisa, Kansas City, Missouri.
WOW👍👏👏👏 Do you think you could do this with one of your awesome masterboards scanned??? Thanks for the inspiration. I have been quilting and now furniture painting. I have to get back right away to Journaling and give this a try. Laura
I do this as well! So simple and easy. Glad I’m not the only one. I have an older HP and I just wipe the acetate window clean after printing and haven’t had any problems. Love this ❤️
Great idea. For those that have laser printers I would put the acetate on after printing as if it's not the right kind it will melt, if it is acetate for lasers you wont be able to rub off the print.
What a great idea! I tried just taping the edge that goes into the printer first, and it worked without catching on the printer; less tape to pry off :)
Great idea and just in time for Christmas. Will put a special note inside as well and use them for gift tags! Last year I made cute mini beanies and taped them under the bows. Kinda like an ornament.
This is brilliant. Good for you. Be proud. I wish I had thought of it. Thank you so so much for sharing/caring. You are sweet. I like your momma too. 😊
I have been thinking about overprinting recycled materials and here you have done it! Thanks for working out all the finer points so I won't have to. I love your envelopes! I'm going to try the repositionable tape runner (Tombow) and see how it works instead of washi.
What a great idea, you save on paper and glue, plus I have bought printable acitate and vellum for my inkjet before, I am pretty sure they were both from crafters companion.
That's awesome! And the paper is beautiful!! You have caused me to wonder about printing on the envelope another way. Hmmm. Probably more steps to that idea ... will let you know. BUT this is really, really nice!! Thanks for coming up with the idea!! And sharing!!
Hello Melina, I just recently subscribed to your channel, like yesterday I think. Anyway I've been subscribed to your Mom's channel for awhile. I may not always get to comment on yours or her channels, but I just wanted to thank you both for sharing your time and inspirations and also the freebies as I am on a fixed income and cannot do what I would like to do. This video caught my eye, but I will have to be careful as I can't afford another printer. I have an Epson ink tank 27 hundred something model. But mostly wanted to let you know that I appreciate everything. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
If you want to avoid the printing already on the envelope, print on the inside of the envelope and just fold the tabs in reverse direction. You can then glue the acetate window on the inner side. If it is a security printed envelope you will even have an unprinted frame around the window.
@@barbaramcfall642 I haven't found much I can't run thru my eco tank. You just have to be creative on how you anchor the leading edge. Freezer paper is a great way to "cheat" when you want to print something that's too thin/delicate to go thru on its own.
@@Jencogneeto I used to be able to print on real thick card but the ECO just will not do it. They say some will and some won't. I got the one that won't. Yes, I have printed on junk mailers with no plastic window and it did print in the window area. BUT, my laser also got caught on the edges of the open window and messed up on a few envelopes.
OMG....how can this be so obvious...like...right in front of our eyes....yet not done it until now??? 😳 I mean, why have we been sticking paper on them? Crazy! 😘😘😘
Hmmmmmn. I can see a new digital creation happening this evening!

I like the fact that you can see the return address and the stamp area on the envelope. It looks so cool!
So pretty. I print on book pages too. Tape those on print paper like you do the envelope.

The paper clip would look great with a small button sewn in with the cord. Great idea. I'll try this. Thank you.
Thank you Melina. 💓

What about trying the ‘boarderless’ option on the printer to see if that will pick up the print to the edge
I've tried that with my printer. It's a dinosaur. I can't get it to print correctly when I try that.

There are removable tape runners that would be easier to use instead of the washi tape.
I use what I have. The washi tape was very easy to apply and remove. Thanks for this idea too though!
