    I've had a puffer for 8 years in a mixed reef tank and I agree with this poster. They don't eat coral and they don't have beaks that need to be filed like other puffers. My biggest warning would be that they will eat small hermits, snails, conchs, and shrimps. They are also pigs and eat and poop a lot so you have to have a big tank of at least 150g for long term care. They are also prone to eye cloud if you don't keep the water clean. From the front the lens of their eyes lens has a natural blue iridescence, this is normal. When you look at the lens through the side it should be clear, if it's foggy then do a water change before the puffer goes blind. Other than that they are very tough fish and will survive trauma other fish will not.
    They will eat other fish. I learned that they tend to eat timid new fish while leaving confidant existing fish alone. If you are worried about this, get all your other fish first then get the puffer, not the other way around. Or temporarily remove the puffer for a day while your new fish gets a chance to become comfortable in the tank then reintroduce the puffer. Large anemones are dangerous for puffers, they aren't strong swimmers and cannot escape. They will try to eat food that an anemone has caught and then get caught themselves or will easily drift into one.

    How often do you feed the puffer fish and other fish?? Just how big does the puffer fish get??? Your tank is awesome.

      I feed all the fish and the puffer once per day. Pufferfish can get around a foot long or bigger in a really big tank.

    Mine was a tang. He ate nori from my hands. And I think he liked that more than the meaty foods. He died cuz of negligence or I would still have him today. They are safe to me.

    I have a 100 gallon and was going to empty out the whole reef tank and make it a puffer fish tank, do you think i would have better luck with 2 dog face puffers in the same tank or get 1 porcupine and 1 dog face together?

    which corals do you have brother? The only other video on this subject pretty much said the same thing, train them young and keep them fed! I've had a couple. They used to do the most awesome thing. They'd swim polar opposite sides of the tank, rev up their fins, them swim full speed ahead at each other and head-butt. It was totally non-aggressive and completely for play. They were best buds. I'm just now starting a reef tank and I want to get one again. They do grow slowly, had those two in a 60gal for a few years never grew beyond the 2.5" mark.

    For anyone that has a Porcupine Puffer long term fully grown, can you provide your opinion if I can keep this fish in a 120 gallon (4 feet long by 2 feet wide) or do you feel this size tank is too small? I'm seriously considering this fish but concerned about the tank size long term.

    • @EagleAquatics
      @EagleAquatics  2 роки тому

      You should be good with that size tank long term, they dont grow very fast and from my experience they mine wasnt the most active swimmer. I would say your good.

    Hello great video!! would you say the same about dog face puffer? I recently received one from a buddy that got it by accident. It's only 2" long at the moment so very small. It's currently chilling in my sump till I get my other frag tank emptied.

      Dog faces will eat coral and inverts, they definitely are not reef safe by any means. Cause they have exposed teeth that need constant filing
