Basic phrases that people can pick up on are useful to learn a new language. Thank you Virginie!

Very useful also for asking questions. Last year i was in France and once i asked in Colmar: Il y a un bus a Munster (Alsace)? Is there a bus to Munster? Response: Oui il y a un bus mais seulement pendant la nuit après 10 h. Yes there is a bus but only during the night after 10 pm.

How french people chop their words or phrases is notable. Americans do the same. How are you all doing, becomes, how y'all doing?

It depends. In the swiss french regions (i'm swiss german) like Lausanne, Genève etc. in english Geneva i personally did not hear it often. Same in Alsace.

    Is the sentence « Il y a quelqu’un à la porte » correct?

Conjuagating verbs is a bit more advanced, you could be getting over some people's heads, but learners need to eat their vegetables.

Yes can sometimes a bit tricky for example with the verb être. If i speak french mostly i use présent, passé composé and imparfait in phrases. Others terms like gérondif i use rarely or never.
