    Wonderful video Vimoh. Very insightful.
I few questions was raised though.
    1. Can a Hindu claim himself to be a "Hindu atheist" to a western/Abrahamic atheistic thought?
    2. If the term losses its validity under the Indian perspective, then in what sense would you attach the word Athiest for yourself wouldn't it be better to call yourself Carvaka or someone from other Atheistic schools of thought?
    and lastly,
    3. it's not related to this video but what is the response to the question of moral /ethical theory for materialists such as Carvakas?

First time watching your video. I have a few questions.
Can you describe the word "Hindu" and its origins.?
Who are the Hindus? What does it need to be a Hindu?
And also how did you come to this conclusion that "Hindu atheist" is a privilege of the "Upper Caste"?
Also, Can you distinguish between "Jaati", "Varna" and "Kul"? How are they different?
Can you explain the words "caste" and "casteism"? Since when the word is in use and how did it come to be used in India and By whom? How it is different from the "Varna System" of Bharat?
Finally, Who did the first "Caste Census" and their process of surveying, intentions, and outcomes?

      @@ankitjain3760
      moksh - absolute nothingness.
      Soul is chetna or consiousness.
      Logically both of these exist.
What doesn't exist is rebirth and karma theory of Jainism.
I think karma and rebirth were invented to keep the morality intact, so that the law and order could be easily maintained and the masses could be controlled in a better efficient way.
Jainism could have been a perfect atheistic hub if it had compromised it's theory on rebirth.
Even karma could maybe somehow justified, but rebirth is something which will never be proved and doesn't exist either.
I'll come to my point of how karma could exist in a practical form,
I will give a very very basic example for that.
You eat non veg, you behave more violently, because of the tamas gun of meat.
Which leads you to behave in a violent way, often it could eventually lead you to troubles as it plays with your temper, and concentration.
So if the tamas, rajas and satva gunas can be proven, it is easy to prove that non veg can lead to a bad destiny in future.
Same way, if you steal, you might get caught someday, atleast there will be a fear of getting caught, or fear of getting robbed or fear that someone else might steal something from you. And hence that constant state of fear, could lead to concurrent problems.
These can be logical justifications which can be given for karma.
Karma was also evolved in order to create more empathy in human beings, so that they behave more empathetically towards everyone.
As non violence (ahimsa) was one of main part of Jainism, karma might have been used to promote ahimsa.
Karma might be a partially correct or partially incorrect theory, but it does help in maintaining social good and social harmony, if practiced thoroughly.

Lol. Who told you Hinduism is not founded on basic premise that God exists? Firstly "Hinduism" is not a religion. It is a geographical term. The religion is Sanatan "translates to eternal" but let's use the term Hinduism because it is more commonly used. The Vedas and Upanishads clearly talk about God and so does the Gita. It's laughable to know there are people who believe Hinduism is not based on concept of God.

So let me get this straight.
      1. Hinduism is not a religion but it is founded on the basic premise that god exists.
      2. Hinduism is not the name of the religion and it's actually Sanatan but let's use the word Hinduism anyway.
      3. This religion which is not a religion and is a geographical marker has sacred texts that tell about god.

@@vimoh Clearly you didn't read my response properly. I said "Hindu" is a geographic term and the religion is called "Sanatan" but let's use Hinduism for the sake of dialogue because most people use this term instead of the actual name of the religion.
All the 4 Vedas and Upanishads are the core texts in Hinduism/Sanatan dharm and you can consider Bhagvad Gita as cliff notes of these texts as the the text itself says so.
The Vedas and Upanishads have multiple references of "God". In fact, as per these texts, these are also given as knowledge by "God". I'll spare the details here to avoid a lengthy response but you can research yourself and you'll find this to be accurate.
I don't know a single person who says I am a Hindu atheist. If there is someone who says they are "Hindu Atheist" clearly doesn't know what Hinduism/Sanatan dharm is.
Of course there is no compulsion on anyone whether or not to follow any religion but someone calling themself Hindu and Atheist doesn't make any sense.

I don't believe in god. But I am Hindu culturally. I have strong emotional affinity with 'hinduness'. I will take 7 circles around the fire when I will marry. I will be burnt in a pyre when I die. I sometimes go to the temple whenever I m with someone and visiting a place. I celebrate festivals. And I also have an affinity to my caste identity. But I consider all castes to be equal. I don't understand what has a belief in god to do with caste. And yes, I am a so called 'upper caste'. Tribalism is a basic human instinct. Caste is just that, a tribe and an entity. Belief in god is not intricately linked to caste identity. But as far as Hinduism is concerned, I put it above my caste identity and below my national identity. And I feel lucky to be born in a hindu family and culture because it gave me the freedom to think anyway I want. Charvak philosophy is something I am interested in but haven't read about. But I don't want to leave diwali because its my culture. I don't want to disbelieve in Rama perhaps I would still chose to worship him as a good human being of his time. I may also chant Hare Rama Hare Krishna. This is what my ancients have been doing for millenia.
I don't want to abondon the kirtan bhajan because I like them. I don't want to stop listening to songs of Hindu gods because it gives me a peace of mind.
And if I do all of those, I won't be called "athiest" by western standard anymore.
So a Hindu athiest or Sanatani Nastik is one like me. And besides that as I said,

Pretty substantial arguments. It was fun listening to them. Some counterpoints.
Assuming that religion necssitates faith in a deity or a personal god, if deistic Hindus don't have a problem with atheism, then there is inherently no problem with using the descriptor "Hindu" for your own personal identity even if it means you suspend judgement vis-a-vis the existence of a personal god.
Towards the end, you invoke the argument that sounds a lot like the argumentum ad populum, whereby truth is granted simply because the majority seeks it so. That is a bit defeatist imo because if we are concerned with labels, "Hindu" is indeed geographical. It comes directly from the river Indus and is in fact of non-Indian origin. Therefore, just because the majority claim that they are "superior" because of faith based claims (which BTW is something you did not fully delve into) and thus have a right to a label that is inherently geographical in origin is a bit superficial.
PS. I do agree with you with the order of the new atheist books lol

The word Hindu actually means Indian. Hind was the name of geography given by Persians to their east. Thus the people of Hind were called Hindu. When British came there was no name existing for the varied practices, so they used the word Hindu for the people following the ibdian indigenous practices including Buddhism, Jainism, and tribal cultures.

I have certain doubts @vimoh, I hope you could help me with that. Who is a true Hindu? What are the traits that define a Hindu? What if my practices are in contravention with the Vedas or the Upanishads? or, Does Vedas has an authoritative character? Upanishads and the Vedas contradict each other at many junctures, so is it a religion of contradictions? As Swami Vivekananda said, "Hinduism is a RELIGION of religions.", but then Hinduism would then just be an aggregation of multiple cults which are more often than not at variance with each other. If for the sake of argument, we accept Swami Vivekananda's version that each path leads to the same god, how is it even possible when different cults preach different paths which are at variance with each other at times, or it can be deduced that there is only one almighty and the differences in religion exist due to socio-cultural differences, then it essentially means that the rituals prescribed are useless so might be Swamiji would have been indicating that? May be! Also, an argument that often floats in social media is that Hinduism allows people to chalk out their personal way to deal with their own god. So, if that's so then Hinduism should not prescribe any precepts then?

    • @vimoh

So here's the thing. Human beings try to find meaning in life. They either examine their own thinking and beliefs and come to the conclusion that they have a purpose in life. Or they don't do such examination or go for one of the readymade purpose packages available to them. These readymade packages are religions.
So when you ask me who is a true Hindu, my answer would be to ask why that question is important. Because maybe there is something called a true Hindu and maybe there isn't. The answers to that question can be various. It does not matter.
We can engage in "true meaning" conversations till the proverbial cows come home. But it's a futile conversation. Truth is, if you want to call yourself Hindu, you can. It's no different from calling yourself a leprechaun or a robot or a dinosaur. It's just a word about whose definition there may be some disagreement and some agreement.
