Oh Des, you seemed so down at the end of your video. Don't let the number of books on your TBR ever smother your love of reading or your passion for sharing your journey with all of us. We all love you and support you so, so much!!!
Oh my god that’s amazing! Mines at around 24-35 I think but I have picked up my pace and found a bunch of books I enjoy so it’s going well (it used to be 50+😭)
i had 53 books unread on my shelves two months ago and now i’m reading my 32nd, tbh it’s SOOO difficult but rewarding?? like, i feel great after finishing a book that’s been collecting dust for years 🤺🤺
hey des, maybe you could do a video like „reading books from 5 different genres in 5 days“ or you could do a video where you try to finish all of the books series/ series of interconnected standalones that you own. i bet that would put a dent in your physical tbr
instead of going cold turkey book buying ban, i have found it helpful to make it like a game of bingo. i made a little bingo grid and when i finish reading a book i generate a random number for the table. when i fill i row i get a book buying credit. this makes chipping away at my tbr more fun because i'm working towards a reward!
des babe dont put so much pressure on yourself to finish all of these books in 1 year, this is your job and all those books are your work supplies. you eventually will make content regarding a good chunk of them if not this year, next year or the following. don't get rid of books you may just rebuy eventually because you feel overwhelmed
An idea for donating books is taking them to thrift stores, battered women's shelters that need supplies, and libraries will sometimes take new ones. Lovely video as always!
@@kacie_shipmani saw that! The problem is some books I don’t like, I’ve annotated; so I’m gonna try to gift them to a friend or something, there’s some books I’ve been collecting to donate and I hope I find someone who loves them😊
I think it’s safe to say that the video we should see from destiny next is a reading vlog of her finishing all the books she started but never finished.
Ok but I would literally die from happiness if you did a reading vlog this autumn reading the Harry Potter series 🥹 You could tick off 7 books at once from your TBR and it‘s the perfect cosy fantasy plsssss
Emily Fox just did a couple videos of "read it or unhaul it" and that might be a way to cut down the number a bit. You could gather up some that you've had for a while and read part of them to see if you're into it and unhaul it if you're not. Since most of yours seem to be mint/barely used, you could probably resell them to get some of the money back too :)
Girl! You made me feel so much better as I did an approximate count which led me to realize I have around 250 books on my TBR 😰 I do the same thing and shop whenever I feel sad, depressed, mad, and happy! There could be worse things we spend our money on!
As someone once said buying books and reading books are two different hobbies. I've got hundreds of books in my room that I haven't read but I enjoy having them and I like to think of them as potential adventures and knowledge. I don't even know if I'll ever read them all, but I enjoy being surrounded by books. My recommendation is start with the shortest book and work your way up. It's a good way to feel that you're making a dent in your TBR.
My heart broke when you finished the video so down, Des is alright, you love reading and look it like this, you now have many books to choose from depending on your mood or the season. Don't let the number discourage you, really
i actually love this bc i always feel so bad abt how many unread books i have and to see ur in the same boat at me makes me so comfortable knowing like i’m not the only one
Librarian here: if you do an unhaul you should donate the books to your local library! I'm sure they would appreciate it, especially because your books are new and in great condition.
Ive come to the conclusion that, for me, being a reader also means being a collector. I love books, i love collecting books. In 12 years, ive done 1 unhaul, i want the rest. I enjoy my physical library room in which im actually reorganizing right now. I have ALOT of books, but it brings a peace and eventually I'll get to them, never know what i feel like reading. Im never ever on a book ban. All this to say, you do what makes you happy with books, dont be pressured by the outside world. If books make you happy, buy the books. Life is short, too short and we get one life, be happy, be kind and if a tbr pile happens to fall on you, stack that sucker back up and buy another book to even it out!! Happy Reading and have a wonderful day
An unhaul sounds really good. What I do sometimes when I unhaul is bring books to different outside mini library's where people can get a book. That was really fun to do! :D
Des use the 305 books as inspiration for video ideas. You can read a series, read by genre, one video can focus on the longest book you own. A vlog on male authors, etc.
I think you should do 1. A week of only reading thrillers 2. A week of reading fantasy 3.continuing the books you left in between And so on..... Try these I think this will help you reduce the books on your tbr
Maybe you could do a few reading ____ books for a week video to cross off some of that tbr (sad books, thrillers, historical fiction, etc). Also love the “finish books you are in the middle of” idea!
Specify a bookshelf or two as your tbr, that what I did. Makes it super easy to just go and pull out my next read. Once I read one I move it to my read shelves.
Hey Steph! I know you’re not buying anymore books, but the Haunting Adeline series actually has a prequel novella called Satan’s Affair! For me, it really helped me understand the first book better. Especially during one specific scene in the middle. Also, the Blood and Ash series and the flesh and fire series are intertwined. This is the order: Blood and Ash, Flesh and Fire, Crown of Gilded Bones, Shadow in the Ember, War of Two Queens, a Light in the Flame, a Fire in the Flesh, and the new book that was recently released, a Soul of Blood and Ash. The Flesh and fire series is a spin-off of a certain character we meet in a Crown of Gilded Bones!
I find that giving myself a ratio helps a lot in getting through my tbr... For example, reading 3 books on my tbr for 1 new book I buy/borrow from the library. I also try to get through new books as soon as possible before the excitement for it wears off. Also, being honest about which books I lost interest in and just won't read (then getting rid of those).
If you're on a book ban and youre not allowed to buy any books at all, youre going to fail and give in to buying a bunch of books. If you let yourself loose a little bit, and allow yourself to buy important books. Like a sequel to a series or a book by your favourite author, books youve been really wanting. Also id recommend reading 10 books before youre allowed to by 1 book. You could save up for a book haul or just by them straight away. I also recommend waiting 3 weeks to see if you still want the book before buying it. So that you dont get bored of it and youre certain that it is something you want not something you thought to youd like and were wring about
Don’t let having a big tbr put you in a bad mood! Buying books and reading them are 2 separate hobbies. A big tbr just means that you can bookshop in your own shelves!
this video and the past few videos are inspiring me to go on a desperately needed book buying ban with you!! we can stick by each other the whole way as we make it through our physical tbr’s! remember don’t give up!! you got this!!
you should read 'before the coffee gets cold' for sureee ! it's a little bit different but i really enjoyed it and i recommend it to everyone. it's perfect to read on a rainy summer day with a cup of coffee in hand ! think you would really enjoy it and 'the poppy war' and the rest of the series!!!! they aren't easy to read at times and it took me a while to finish the books but at the end it was worth it. you just have to keep going and you won't regret it i've read 'the night circus' in december and oh boy.... the atmosphere in this book was so magical and the plot and the characters... it all worked sooo good together!!! and the little subplot of romance!!! highly recommend 'the secret history' is my favorite book of all times! that's all i'm gonna say. just read it and thank me later
This makes me feel better about having 60 books on my physical tbr! I started a segment to try to keep myself on track reading instead of buying books, but I fell off the wagon and ended up buying 40 more and only reading 26 so far.
You should keep all of your unread books on one bookshelf and move them over to the other bookshelves once you've finished them :) It would be like a physical way of seeing the list of unread books getting smaller! Love your videos girly 💕
Depending on the genre you could donate the books you’re not interested in to a children’s or general/ family hospital. It would give individuals who are there a sense of comfort in times of unknown & stress💛
Buying books give you joy, and looking at them on your bookshelves give you joy, and when you do read them, they'll bring you joy, so it's all good. Don't be stressed. :)
I love Sharp Objects, Redeeming Love, The Nightingale, and Educated. I feel like I loved Educated bc I’m a teacher and I love the idea that education can take you places and change your life but I don’t know if I would have been so obsessed with it if I wasn’t a teacher. But I loved.
I did not love Circe but I don’t know anything about Greek mythology and so the whole time I was just like “is the plot in the room with us???” I loved the song of achilles but this one I was just so confused the whole time
@@MontanaK96As someone that's into Greek mythology stories, I didn't like it either. It's a no plot just vibes book and it's very slow without that many things going on so if you're into more plot oriented books like me it would make sense why you wouldn't like it.

It's her video you can just address her 😂
Agreed!! This would be fun. Destiny please do itttt
i need to do this lmao i stop in the middle of books all the time
Yesss
Lmao this was clearly just a aesthetic video
i feel like des has more books on her tbr than i have in general😅
No she literally does. I wish I had the money 🥲
I know she has more than me bc I recently counted all my books lmao
No literally bc just 2 stacks of her physical TBR is how many books I own in total 😭

Girl yes to the summer book comment! I no longer want to sit on the beach while reading about the beach so I read mainly thrillers so far this summer.
I feel like reading Frankenstein and Dracula would be great for an October vlog just cause spooky vibes
you can always bring a book or two you’re not planning on picking up while traveling and leaving them in those little libraries wherever you visit :)
you should definitely do a "reading dark romance books for a week" video
You should read the turn of the key. It was absolutely amazing omg. One of my favourites
And radio silence. Literally Alice osemans best book
I’d love to see you read Redeeming Love, The Secret History and If We Were Villains❤️
I just know this will make my whole night and day and good luck with that TBR 😌
i absolutely loved saturday night at the lakeside supper club, it was a really cool multi-generational/multi-pov story! 5/5 ⭐️

I love all Sophie Lark books so would highly recommend the Brutal Birthright Series and the Kingmaker series!!!
When it comes to donating your "unhaul books" I would suggest a local library, shelters or a school in your area that could benefit from them!
Babe, it’s summer time. Go enjoy the nice weather and don’t worry about your TBR. I saw a lot of new ones that weren’t in the first one. You also have mostly series vs standalone books. Series have a lot of reading. You should rewatch your first one and you will see how much you did get through.
Educated, the nightingale, and in a jam are good! I’m also currently reading the to all the boys I’ve loved before series

I really do recommend Kristin Hannah's books! The Night Road and the Nightingale are really good. My favorite is The Great Alone!
I love your physical TBR videos! Please do a spoiler reading vlog for Haunting and Hunting Adeline, I want to see your thoughts on it.
You gotta start the Shadow Hunter universe!!! I can’t wait to see you enter that world! Definitely read publication order so you don’t spoil yourself ❤️❤️❤️
Wow! Love your collection of books. It’s a mini library in your room ❤
You should do a giveaway book unhaul!! Or book swap with Sara and Haley where you all unhaul and trade books!
PLEASE read the grace year!! i also recently enjoyed the only survivors
the kingsmaker series is literally my most favorite series ive ever read
I was just about to go watch some of your old videos when the notification went off! You're so awesome Des!!!
You should definitely read Hail Mary, all the Suzanne Collins books, The First to Die at the End, and Then she was Gone!
Omg ILSYM Des you literally make me smile when u post
Please please a marathon of hunger games and song birds!! You could fire through them all in 24 hours they’re so quick!
you should do a video reading certain series to knock out big chunks of your tbr at one time!
Audiobooks are great if you’re overwhelmed by classics!
