That gun signal is fairly similar to the long horn honk signal, each minute, when sailing in mist, if i remember correctly. I didn't know about the square and ball. Learned something today. Will keep your video to show on my boat to guests when doing long passages. Really clear!
Btw, at least in my country (the Netherlands), you can only install and use Epirb devices, including the MOB1, when you have an advanced radio license ( basic license only allows use of DSC distress). It's a little odd, as these devices just turn on when they hit the water.

I would like to suggest an episode about "Where can I anchor my boat?". How do I find out if anchoring is permitted? It would be nice if you could cover Europe as well. Thank you. Your channel is great!

What are your thoughts on the use of laser pointers to improve visibility when awaiting rescue?
I saw somebody mention it on one of the forums recently, and it made a lot of sense. You can run these laser pointers a really, really long time, and pointing them up in the sky makes it really easy to pinpoint your location from some distance away. At least at night, that is. During the day the beam is unlikely to be visible.

Not a bad idea. I’ve not heard of that but I believe that a laser pointer would be a worthy addition to any abandon ship bag. Great idea 👍

What’s most distressing is the price of these flaires. It’s like burning gold

If you are on fire, don’t forget to run up the Juliet flag.
