Yeah, he is always tactics tactics tactics. Unless he starts studying positional chess very diligently, i think this game isn't for him. I recommend he studies a great book: Mastering Positional Chess: Practical Lessons of a Junior World Champion
I've seen the computer recommend that h3+g4 idea a lot against the Scandi when they try to pin the knight and I never understood why it was so strong. But seeing Danya absolutely obliterate the game 3 opponent with it makes it clear why the computer recommends it. Just beautiful to see it in action by an actual human.
It's one of those openings where white can only get an advantage by breaking typical opening principles; e.g. many thematic ideas include a quick Ne5 and the h3-g4 stuff as you mentioned
@@lingtao969 Yeah, sielecki recommends to do exactly that in his e4 course. But I still struggle to find those ideas in games (or their follow-up). Mainly because I think I tend to avoid these ambitious moves in favor of stable, positional play :l I don't like facing the scandi tbh
@@E8oL4 Same I always struggle against the scandi because if you aren't accurate in the opening then black's sounder pawn structure is impossible to break down

Thank you danya for being the best chess teacher on the internet. Thanks to your educational content, I was able to score 3.5/5 in my last tournament ❤
I just love it when he's at 10 seconds with all pieces still on the board and he takes 8 seconds reassuring us that he's not in time trouble and then casually checkmates his opponent in a forced 10-move sequence.
Danya, I appreciate that you are playing both 10min and 5min time controls in this speedrun. I was part of the minority asking for 5min time control, but I think the mix is actually better than purely one or the other.
4 games + analysis. Amazing effort. I'm not even that big on chess but I've watched these speed-runs for years now because the content seems to good to be free. Big content from a consistently great creator. Chess students are very lucky. Thought experiment: if collages/universities had Chess as a study subject, what do you think the lectures would look like? My thoughts: probably not this good.
1. e4 e5 "Okay, so he goes e5. Now a lot of people here would just lazily develop the knight to f3, but we actually have a move here that poses a lot of practical problems for black and is borderline winning for white. The move is Ke2, and do not worry I will explain this more thoroughly after the game. Now you might look at this position and say, "isn't this weakening our king and blocking in our pieces?" And while that may be true, you guys need to start thinking long term. In the endgame, it will be a huge advantage to have our king activated in the center. Furthermore, black has no threats here. he is not going to checkmate us any time soon, the king is perfectly well defended on e2. Now he does have a nasty little defensive resource he can try here, let's see if he finds it. Wow, Ke7 he finds it. Now guys, I don't wanna hear any baseless accusations, we will check with an engine after the game. It's not unthinkable that a 1500 finds this move and no, black has not equalized, we just need to play clinically to secure.
Gotham made a video (and I think a course as well) about the Scandi where he reccomends Qa5, and I've been getting it a lot from around 700-1100 way more than I had before his video dropped. Also, love the content!
Danya is so respectful to opponents who are clearly cheating, like the guy in game 2. That’s one of the strongest 1,000 ELO players I’ve ever seen. I know he crumbled at the end, but a true 1,000 would’ve never kept it that close for that long. What people often forget is that most cheaters don’t play the top move every time. They throw in engine moves at key moments.
At my level (sub 1000), I've been playing both the Latvian and King's Gambit quite a bit with over par success and found out a few things about how to win with them. One is that you don't get passive and play your pawn gambit initiative for a long term positional advantage plan, that isn't the way. IMO at the lower level it is all about denying Castling rights and even sacrificing a minor piece on top of the pawn Gambit to get to the opponent's King early, sometimes flushing them entirely off the back rank and starting a King hunt before they can develop. This is MUCH better than just trying to consolidate a tempo of early development. The true spirit of these Gambit openings IMO is to start pushing with the pawn Gambit, and keep pushing fearlessly even considering more sacrifices in other words. All the refutations of these Gambits I see on UA-cam are dealing with these weak and very lackluster versions of play, they never show real refutations of the Gambits that are played with the true spirit and with their King in actual danger from what I have seen. And the King will be in actual danger if the Gambits are played correctly.
as a levy fan I like to tell you that your instructions and explanations are more helpful to me personnaly. Sharing all your thoughts on a move really improves my understanding of the game!!! Just wanted to thank you for that! YOU switched my favourite YTchannel! Thanks again and greetings from germany!
How does he find fast examples of other games that showcase the concept that he's talking about? Is there a big cut in the youtube video? Is there some kind of moves filter or just absurd memory?
You probably won't see this, but i would really recommend trying out the kalashnikov sicilian as black. I have been playing it recently and i think the ideas are very obvious for beginners especially in Nc3 lines. Its also super underutilized at the top level.
It's not true Danya! You make it look so easy, but I kid you not; it's not. Ughh! This has always been the biggest chess trap I always fall for-thinking this thing is easy. This ish is hard!

video suggestion: Not crushing the Andrew Hong opening with neither black or white and why I have (not) changed my opinion about talent. my 2 cents: if chess wasnt about opening and pattern memorisation mostly, you'd have crushed brandon. but since you were new to the (inferior) opening, you were still at a slight disadvantage because you couldnt do what you do best: put in the work and be prepared. another take would be: this early in the game, even an engine might get it wrong. but i highly doubt it.
Hey Danya, any comments on that GM that got banned for fair play after running like 70 Ra6 sacs against you? I imagine you probably talked about it on your stream or something, but for us UA-cam people, anything interesting? Did you report him yourself? Is there an interesting story there? What were you thinking across that 6 hours?

Mostly cause the scandi by principle is not very healthy, white needs to play as energetically as possible to "punish" Qxd5-Qa5 losing a tempo
