Such a cool video. I really enjoyed the trip from the rear window, and also how it did the turn at the depot. I’ve seen videos about this train before, but so happy you showed us these features!
I went to Wuppertal for the same purpose last September. I did the same as you except I went from the Hbf to Oberbarmen first, then the whole line to Vohwinkel. When I was there, outside the Hbf was under construction and a mess so it's good to see that it's finished. 0:10 - Wuppertal is also famous as the birthplace of Friedrich Engels.
Ah the Famous German philosopher, of course (sorry, had to google it - ngl 😉). I just got on the first train that turned up tbh. I think it’s definitely one of those places you can just ride with no particular plan and, if you see something interesting, just get off at the nearest stop or the one after and walk to it (see my Lego bridge video for one such example).
As a young boy I had a book illustrating this railway in an earlier form and was amazed at such a construction, thanks for doing this trip for me it was a wonderful experience that I hope to do myself one day, as always cheers and stay safe.
Hi Simon, cheers mate. I reckon this is a fairly easy weekend thing with a flight to Düsseldorf. I did it with Eurowings and it was cheaper to stay there than Wuppertal. Go for it! 👍
Cheers Phil. Yep it took me a couple of goes but I made it in the end. Not difficult to get to really and just half an hour from Düsseldorf. Definitely worth a trip!
Hi Andy, thanks very much. I had a good time - one of those places I’d been trying to get to for a while and a ‘nice to say I’ve done it’ kind of trip. Glad it brought back good memories 😊👍
Been waiting for this one! I need to sort myself a short trip over here to ride on this line, been sort of obsessed since I first saw the line in a 70s German film I saw in the Cinema last year!
Do you remember the name of the film? Wouldn’t mind checking that out. I can’t remember where I heard about this myself but yeh, like you, once I knew about it I just had to give it a go. This was my 2nd attempt but definitely worth it and fairly easy to get to from Düsseldorf 👍
Did a school exchange trip there in 1967, but stayed beyond the eastern end of the line. It was a short bus journey to get to the tram terminus for the ride to Oberbarmen. As I recall, Wuppertal is a collection of smaller towns strung out along the river valley, with the schwebebahn being an ideal way to link them together. Looking at it now, very much has the feel of the Calder Valley. Wonder if the idea will catch on?
Hi Edward, yes I wish I had the time to make use of those 9€ tickets - absolute bargain. I doubt we’ll ever see anything similar in the UK though. Have a great trip! 😊👍
Hey thanks John, yes i remember the school exchange trips - didn’t end up anywhere as interesting as Wuppertal unfortunately, just some random village in northern France 😊
Glad you finally made it to Wuppertal! Brings back memories of my trip last August, except you had better weather! I managed to buy my ticket from a machine, but not without some confusion! They weren’t easy to use. Don’t blame you buying yours from a newsagent
Hi James, yep well worth the trip. Those ticket machines just looked like they were going to give me a hard time so yep, headed down the street and bought some food at the same time. I hope you made it to the Lego bridge mate 😂
I remember us talking about that train when you visted Berlin two years ago. I guess this time no elephant was on the train and fell down into the Wupper river?
Hi mate, yeh - great time that was 😊 no elephant on the train unfortunately. I did have currywurst again but it was nowhere near as good as that bar in Berlin! 😂
Hi CatB, the ads, I’m afraid that, for a tiny little channel like mine, it’s the main way of generating a small amount of income so that I can make more content for everyone. I know quite a few of my subs have got the premium service so that is an option…..
Amazing. It's like something from "Total Recal" . 😂❤
This is my hometown. Though I now live in the UK, the Schwebebahn was the most important public transport for me 20+ years ago. Great video.
Cheers mate and thanks for watching 👍😊
This is amazing thanks for bringing this to my attention, its like a roller coaster will search it up now
Yes - pretty u inquest really which I guess is the draw for many - certainly was for me 👍
This was a brilliant watch and has definitely been added to my to-do list.
Many thanks
David in Devils Bridge.
Excellent video mate, It's certainly an experience that everyone who likes railways should do!
Cheers, I managed to get there in the end - following in the great ‘non-stops’ footsteps!
Cheers for posting Mark. What a wonderful, quirky railway. It looks fab. ... can't wait to visit it in march next year 🤗
Oh yes, you’ll have a great time. Enjoy!
Interesting! Thanks.
Fabulous. A truly unique railway. Thanks for taking us along.
Cheers mate, weird one isn’t it! I enjoyed my time there but I can see why it’s never caught on!

Cheers! Yep they don’t have to change cabs see so it’s just a case of driving it round. Definitely recommend a trip if you’re ever down that way 👍

Always wanted to visit. Great video as always!

Very enjoyable video - reminds me of my visit a few years ago…great fun to ride…👍

@@LetsMakeaTrip Of course it's Alice in the Cities directed by Wim Wenders. A great film :)
@@nilelg5 cheers, I’ll check that out. 👍

Nice to see. I will be there in 2 weeks from now as well. With the 9 Euro Ticket it is very cheap to make these trips now.

Ganz interessant. I was there Feb 1987 I think, on a school exchange!

@@LetsMakeaTrip no mate I missed out on the Lego bridge. I guess that gives me a reason to go back!!
@@jamestravels24 haha, yep, probably not!
That was great thanks. Surprizing their are not more elevated railways /
Thanks Alan. Yep, one of a kind this is. Well worth a trip if you're in the area.

Gerry Anderson has been in touch and wants a chat re copyright over his designs from Thunderbirds etc ... 🙂
4:40 why does it look like you're going both forwards and backwards, ha ha, that was weird.
Oh yeah, never noticed that before! Must be something to do with the reflections in the windows. Well spotted! 👍
Great video but way too many ads
