The second part is much more cohesive than the first and looks stunning with some awesome use of negative space.
P.S Did that say "flip disc" instead of "flip disk"? (Disc tends to refer to optical media.)

Kind of new to the C64 demo scene... Question: Seems like there's no way you could have squeezed these graphics out of the original C64 hardware. How are you making this today?

I'm no expert myself, but assume this is for unmodded hw. Amazing, right? The recording may be from an emulator though, and your experience may be affected by the modern screen you watched.
That said, 30+ years of clever tricks and c64 quirks discovered can now be used. With Internet knowledge is available and you don't need to discover it yourself. Modern algorithms from other platforms, like image compression, can inspire new approaches. Perhaps they used modern development tools on modern computers too. It doesn't change the capability of the runtime, but makes the work a bit easier than the old days.

Back in the day you had to program and develop all multimedia on the C64 itself.
Now you take a modern PC and write tools to compress and/or calculate the animations, pictures, sound effects, etc. according to the C64 limitations.
These are rendered automatically, while before you would have to create this manually.
Sound samples: you can filter and compress audio samples on the PC and use special PC based audio composer/trackers. You write just the player for the C64.
This sounds easy, but it is not! Bear in mind that not only do we have 30+ years of accumulated C64 programming tricks, we have the internet, too, which allows sharing all this information.

Nonsense. Sounds fine. Idiotic, ill-placed purism.
