- Welcome to the first episode of our epic SOUTH AFRICAN ROAD TRIP!
In this episode we take you along on our drive through the TRANSKEI. It can be a very stressful drive, but we soon found out that the roads were in better condition than we thought.
The Transkei is in the Eastern Cape and we had to pass through it to get to East London from Ballito. Check out the video to see what the conditions are like.

ROAD TRIP!!!
Love that little yellow car cartoon.
Surprised at the idea of having to pay for using a bathroom at a rest stop...but that just us not having road-tripped outside America.
Funkiest pit stop picnic lunch song, too...awesome.
Those mountains are reminiscent of West Virginia, where my wife/the kid's mommy is from. Just amazing.
That length of drive - 10 hours - is about the limit we can do in one day.
This series is going to rock.
Thats so awesome. There are so many beautiful places on this Earth. So many more to see😁. Glad you enjoyed this video. We are excited to show you what's next.😁
Thanks guys, really enjoyed your adventures as always. Very funny South African word: padkos. It sounds familiar to our dutch 'kost voor onderweg'. (onderweg 🚗 = op pad). 😁😄👍
Thank you so much for the comment. I'm sure there are many similar Dutch words to our strange South African words😅. Hope you are doing well and thanks for the continued support😁
You can not deny the scenery is beautiful in many parts of the former Transkei, but some of towns were quite grubby. In the mid 80's I had a 4 week tour of SA, camping most nights. I arrived in Umtata and it looked so grubby i decided to head for the Holiday Inn for the night. that was the only place I changed my plan, from tent to hotel.
Funny, the following day i was passing through King Williams Town and gave a local Xhosa woman a lift .. she ended up being my wife .. and still is 😀
We eventually moved back to the UK
Aww, no way!!! That is such a cool story 🥰
Thank you very much for bringing back so many memories! I'm so homesick!😪
South Africa is beautiful all round
That is so true. We live in a beautiful country😁
I love this, reminds me of my childhood holiday driving through the Transkei to Cape Town - Garden route. I do miss scenic South Africa.
The mountains looked very nice despite the foggy weather. Seemed like the journey went quickly and you had lots of stops to break up the drive. The sun looked like it finally came out so that's good. I would never think about cattle on the roads so good to know!
The views were beautiful through the fog 😅. The drive actually felt quick as it was the first day of the trip😉. Cattle is a big problem on some of our roads. We had to drive so carefully.
Awesome, rout to consider when we come down in October, good to come back home again. Love your energy, Cheers
Loved everything about the video upload, very genuine and thoughtful... Keep it up and much love from ur fan
Thank you so much. We tried to pass on some useful information 😁. Thank you for the support!
LOVE the South African flag letters 👏🏼👏🏼 never actually been to the Eastern Cape, but it looks absolutely stunning 🤩😍 haha - Geovanny was like ‘what’s padkos’ - it looked delicious 👌🏼 can’t wait for the rest of your road trip series 🇿🇦
Thanks guys😁. The SA flag colors definitely make good looking letters. Padkos🤣. Glad you guys enjoyed it!
10 hours!!! Fair play, I couldn't do that!! How cool was that stop with all the cows! Looked cool when you were driving through the fog, looked like you were driving through clouds! I wanna see the AirBnb!! :D Always love bloopers! Great vlog guys, really excited for this new series!!
Thank you so much Millie. The cows definitely become a hazard in this part of South Africa. We had so much fog that day😅. Thanks for watching.
We were very much hoping to visit South Africa in the beginning of 2021 😭. Beautiful landscapes all over, you guys are so lucky 🙏 btw I'm not familiar with any of the food you guys had 😳 10 hours is a lot of drive, wow!
Thanks for watching 😊
This is how we feel when watching you having delicious Turkish food, so it’s really great learning about each other’s unique foods.
10 hours was reeeally long 😅🙈 but the beautiful landscapes really helped to make the trip interesting 😊
Guys, it would be amazing to have you here in South Africa 🤗 hopefully you can make it here in the near future 💛
Transkei is like such a different world in South Africa, there is some really amazing views on the way 😀 i just remember really not enjoying this drive, its so super stressful 🤣
Sounds like they've fixed the roads since we drove, so happy to hear that 😀
Excited to see your guys journey!
Hey guys 😊 we expected the worst, so that’s maybe why it wasn’t as bad for us 😅And we also stuck to the highway, I think you also had off-road, which we completely avoided 😬🤣
I'm pretty sure the mountains were amazing. Glad you guys made it to your destination. 10 hours sound like a long drive. Can't wait to see the Air BNB. Enjoy! Safe travels!
Thanks guys. 10 hours was a long time in the car 😅. However we really enjoyed it😁
Loved the beautiful green hills as you crossed the border to eat cape. It's a life hate relationship for us when you can't capture landscape with a camera but then again it's a reason to go out and see it in real life. Glad you made it safe on your ten hour drive. Excited for the next video
Thanks for watching, and we were so happy to see your new vlog 🤗
You’re so right...it really gives people reason to go see places for themselves!
By the way, have you checked out Oribi Gorge? It is about 30kms up north crossing Port Shepstone. It is stunning.
Yes we have been there a few times. I (Craig) had my bachelor's party there before we got married😁
You Guys made me miss home so much, I wish you had driven via my Home Town Mbizana on R61
Ah no, hopefully we can drive through your town next time 😊 where are you living now?
@@BeingBedingfield I travel this road everytime from and to Mbizana but I take a turn up just after Mount Alyf and join R61....I stay in Cape Town Full time now I only go home once a year
Yay for Ep. 1 😍 so excited to get started on this journey with you. 10 hours is impressively long! But the green scenery is beautiful and looks like it was a lovely drive even with the occasional cow and hazard in the way 😅
Thanks guys. Hope you enjoy the trip with us. We have so many amazing places to show you😁🙂
Rest stops are my biggest concern on long road trips as well! I am afraid of going into questionable looking restrooms...it literally is one of my biggest fears! I also don't drink much water unless I know there is a good rest stop near by. Those packed lunches look so delicious, especially the meatballs. The drive is beautiful...loved all the mist rolling over the hills. I can't wait to see your airbnb!
Thanks for watching, April!
I think I remember you mentioning your thoughts on public bathrooms in one of your vlogs, maybe a Hawaii vlog? 😅
Love how organised you were with the packed lunch, I can’t pronounce the food names but it looked good!
Shame the wind picked up, always tricky to fly the drone when it’s like that. That is a long day of driving with quite a few hazards thrown in by the sounds of it! 🐑
Excited to see the Airbnb, love getting a feel for different accommodation around the world!
Its actually amazing how much you can save if you pack your own food on roadtrips. We really had an amazing trip. There was so much to see😁. The drone is not a big fan of the wind sadly😔. I'm sure you guys understand the struggle. Thanks for watching 😁
"Close encounters with some cattle" sounds a lot lot driving where we grew up, except we do not have those amazing views! Your food looked delicious, although I honestly cannot pronounce or remember what any of it was called. South Africans sure have some interesting names for their food 😄
Those cattle are definitely hazards. You have to drive really slowly😅. We should maybe do a video sometime on the strange South African food we have. We do love our country for the wonderful food we have.😁
Look forward to what's next! Sleep well 😴😴
We are excited to show the amazing places we visited😁
Awesome 👌 👍💪💪💯
YAY TOUR!! Love it!! Love to see your PADKOS! You guys ate so QUICKLY HAHA. Fancy Pit Stop - That's when you know the bathrooms will be nice. Very important for a road trip! 10 HOUR DRIVE is long, but you guys did a fantastic job! Can't wait to see the Airbnb in Part 2!!! WOOP!
I just discovered your channel today and what an adventure. Just a word of advice and meant in the friendliest way: you need to wear make up to make it more camera flattering.
Hi thank you for your Vlog, we will be driving from Port Shepstone to East London next month on a Saturday, the scenery sounds and looks fantastic. I am from the UK but my wife is from SA, so we are looking forward to this road trip but also a little nervous, you have settled the my a great deal. After the Transkei we are doing the Garden route.
Hi Simon, that’s awesome, glad to hear we’ve set your mind at ease 😅 we were super nervous as well! But it was a beautiful drive! Just be aware of animals crossing the road 🙈 but other than that, it’s such a beautiful drive!
So exciting that you’re going to do the garden route 🤗 we loooved it! Give a shout if you think we can help with anything 😊
@@BeingBedingfield Hi Craig & Chantz thank you again I do have a question what speed did you drive at on the open parts of the road? I just watched your vlog on the game park sorry the weather was bad for you, we have booked two nights at the Addo Elephant NP so hope to see some animals I only see in zoo's here. You both are a lovely couple :)
@@simonwien61 Craig says he drove an average of about 80-100km/h...I remember it being quite misty as well, so a lot of sections was even slower 🙈
We haven’t been to Addo, but heard it’s awesome 😊 great to have the opportunity in SA to see animals in their natural habitat 😁
Thanks so much for your kind comment 🙂
@@BeingBedingfield Thank you once again, have a great evening. Simon
@@simonwien61 thanks, you too 😊
