I'm a New York Rican. I was born in Brooklyn in '71. I think all the people speaking and getting it wrong are around my age. I only saw Black and Puerto Rican when it was anything. Hip Hop included. But remember. I said I was born in 1971. I was 2 when they credit the Hip Hop date of birth, There's NO WAY I can say with authority what happened at the beginning and who was there. But there IS someone who can. His name is CHOLLY ROCK. He was a Baby Spade and later was a Zulu King who originated B Boying or Breakin or DJing in the Hip Hop form. He's official. And he was there. He's also an educator so he wasn't wandering the streets on a drug mission. His memories are clear and everybody who's still alive from that time knows who he is and NO ONE has challenged a word he says. Just type in Cholly Rock spelled just like that and you'll see his interviews. Listening to these rappers who are my age or less isn't the straight truth because they weren't there. KRS, FAT JOE AND BUSTA are all either my age or a couple of years older or younger. They couldn't have been there like I couldn't have. Being from the Bronx doesn't magically give you this knowledge. You have to get it from the ones who were there from day one and BEFORE. Listen to his breakdown. He's one of the last of that generation still with us. Hip Hop is Black culture. We made early contributions, for sure, but we are not the originators. We are like the #2 foundational group of B Boys because Black Americans made this. It's just facts. But it was a very early arrival. Earlier than the first recorded hip hop. But still in that #2 role.
