Rewatch the beginning again, after you watched the video. Suddenly you feel really sad for the monster. His perspective; suddenly he in a different world, with a different kind of people. As we saw with the wounded miner, his appearance unsettles people. So what does the kid do? He hides his appearance fully. Just for the off chance that he doesn't terrify a potential friend. And worse; we saw that the spiders aren't under his control; he felt sorry for the miners that were about to die.
I appreciate Manly putting the Codename: Kids Next Door thing in my mind because it's all I can see now looking at the characters. The mechanics are definitely the best part of this game, though some enemy AI needs some tweaking like the water enemies hovering too much. I like the story for the most part, but I feel like it needed a stinger to imply the mom was just a puppet of the shadow creature. I fully understand her grief, but being tricked into sacrificing both of your children years apart because it could project your husband's voice a bit much. Also, it's a little silly that they just forgive the shadow creature for the mental suffering and harm it caused on everyone even if I would be down for a sequel that's just their roadtrip.
It's hard to hold a grudge against the Shadow Creature though. I mean, imagine how much of a confusing mind-fuck it must be to be thrusted out of your own world into a place that's completely alien to you. I can't imagine most people would react very rational in that scenario.
to be fair, i don't think she thought she was 'sacrificing' them. it just told her, in her husband's voice, to send them down. i think she rationalized it as 'if i send both of my kids down there they'll work together to find my husband and bring him back to me so we can all be together again'
I used to sit in my old house's basement. Cause no one would think to look for me there. I'd just, sit in the dark and chill. Edit: Thinking back, I was a creepy child. 🤔
You aren't supposed to look. Once they know you know they exist, it's over. You can hold them off by staying in lit places, but blackouts do happen, batteries run out and mysteriously disappear. Your time is limited, spend it wisely.
I honestly feel bad for the kid. You can tell when hes talking in the situation that he is still trying to figure this all out. He doesn't want to be evil but he's overwhelmed *"Wait, hold on, let me think, etc."* He just targeted the family of the one person who showed him kindness in the hope to gain acceptance. He's, in essence, a scared confused kid with far too much power
Wow I love this. The art style reminds me of the Don't Escape/Deep Sleep games and I _really_ dig it. The light mechanic is actually _good_ (not perfect, the whole thing could definitely be made better) and the story is just out there enough, but well-written enough that it held my suspension of disbelief. Relatable. This is one of my favourites of his too, and the music is a big part of that. Relaly love the music for exploring the mines in the beginning, and the "spider chase theme".
Woah I certainly wasn't expecting this to take place in a sort of post-apocalyptic setting. That's was pretty cool. But while I generally liked the story, I felt it was bit of a hit-or-miss in some areas. The fact that they were living in the middle of an exclusion zone the entire time does raise a lot of questions. Did the protagonist spend his entirely life confined to his house? Where does the mom get food or water? Perhaps the shadow being provided them? How was she able to maintain the house? I am surprised the military didn't know about them. Also is the special mineral they were mining of any significance? Was it the reason for all those monsters and mutated animals underground? Or were the monsters due to the darkness' influence? How much does the military and the world at large know about those darkness tentacles and creatures? The security officers were certainly worried about being the player's family being "corrupted". I wouldn't mind if this got a sequel to explain more of the story and setting. But I guess it wouldn't be called The Basement anymore unless the gang gets locked up in a new one. Still a pretty neat game overall.
The material caused the darkness influence I think.. At least mining the material did because the kid cause it I just assumed he was part mineral thing I guess. They probably don't know a lot if they don't know you can survive it. Plus they isolated it and never touched it again. Those might be mutated animals... It might not be the material but rather where the material was from.. that being the home of the monster kid.

I'm the new one on the channel and i LOVE this dude. He plays horror the same way as I do!: Not scarying at all and just getting true story from the plot and occasionally laughing from some dump AI or something!
Everybody is basically Father from KND in this universe...I doubt any of them are human... And no I'm not afraid of the basement. Edit: okay that jumpscare with the monster in the locker really caught me off guard 💧
Father Powers Pyrokinesis - Can project and control fire (especially when he is angry) When he is angry he shouts (a similar mannerism to the Disney villain Hades). Face transformation - Has demonstrated the ability to transform his face into a duplicate of another's face, complete with their voice. Duplication - Can create multiple duplicates of himself. However the copies have no physical substance and disappear when hit. Levitation - Can float a few inches off the ground and hover short distances. Telekinesis - On occasion Father has been shown moving things other than just fire with his mind. Source via the wiki fandom
I have to say that this is an interesting story. The twist at the end is that the main antagonist isn't really evil. I haven't seen that in too many of manly's lets plays.
Ahhh man. This reminds me of my own family. Heck, my sister has a similar name to Cathrin, and a similar relationship to Mum. Main difference here is that I live in the basement because it's hot upstairs.
This was a really cool game. I'd love to see more of this story. And like,,, the boy seemed to be the only one with the bright light. That could be something really cool to play with, where since he was so young when the darkness thing happened, something different happened to him.
This reminds me of a game I used to play on my phone pre-smartphone era. It was a horror game where you're exploring some sort of a hospital and that you must avoid dark areas or you'll take damage.
It's pretty good. It has a pretty noticeable case of tell and not show in my opinion, and the pacing issues as Manly said. The lore can be brought in better. But it's not a bad game, yeah. I'm a sucker for pixel horror.
I'm still not sure of the ending. I mean, it kinda explained everything clearly. But I still not sure about the black faces of everyone alive here. Maybe, they *are* corrupted. Dead people down in the mines have normal-looking skin. But also have black tentacles coming out of their wounds. And everyone alive after cinematic whose face we are able to see (security guys stay with their backs to the camera and have bodysuits) is pitch-black. Even while heroes are using the light to fight monsters, and kinda feel unsafe in the darkness, I was hoping for something scarier to be hinted at, even if never mentioned (and characters do not realize it).

I'm the new one on the channel and i LOVE this dude. He plays horror the same way as I do!: Not scarying at all and just getting true story from the plot and occasionally laughing from some dump AI or something!
We both made a Queen reference at nearly the same time.
Same.
MAMAAAAAA UWU! Kill me please 😂
Kira Queen daisan no bakudan bites za dusto.

How did he went from 9 to 70 ?!
...
Oh ok that's a 10 ._.
It was moogic! Ooooooooooooo *spoopy sounds intensifies*
*ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED?*
Everybody is basically Father from KND in this universe...I doubt any of them are human... And no I'm not afraid of the basement.
Edit: okay that jumpscare with the monster in the locker really caught me off guard 💧
What is KND?
@@fandrasalsabillaoktorasari776 Kids Next Door...A cartoon..
@@fandrasalsabillaoktorasari776 It's an old cartoon that used to air on Cartoon Network year's ago. It used to air on Cartoon Network back in 2002.
Father
Powers
Pyrokinesis - Can project and control fire (especially when he is angry) When he is angry he shouts (a similar mannerism to the Disney villain Hades).

@@SovereignSage 2002 has it really been that long? God, I feel old! :/
Your puns always light up my day. They really strike me as funny.
manlybadass "whats a strategy im just going straight in" hero
You're so right! This is like "The Mist!" I love that story! Thanks for another awesome playthrough, Manly!
This was a really cool game. I'd love to see more of this story. And like,,, the boy seemed to be the only one with the bright light. That could be something really cool to play with, where since he was so young when the darkness thing happened, something different happened to him.
1:00:36 Manly turned into a dog for a second there
Yeah bwhahaha I was so confused there too!!
I adored the art style on this so much!! It’s so cool!! Especially the “flashlight eyes” haha!! 😆❤️
I like how the first thing that came to mind when he was locked in the basement and calling for him mom was a Queen song
"Ah what the hell.. Roadtrip!"
The best possible solution.

I shall have you know, sir, not *ALL* of us go for lights.
Some of us are cultured and go for lava lamps
I think this is one of the first things i ever saw you play, i have been watching you ever since. Great job!
This reminds me of a game I used to play on my phone pre-smartphone era. It was a horror game where you're exploring some sort of a hospital and that you must avoid dark areas or you'll take damage.
i never heard the phrase "now you'll burn" so much in an 1 hour and 20 minutes.
I shit you not, when you made the Queen reference, I said "just killed a man" at the exact same time you did. I love those cool little coincidences.
I think you meant “Father” from codename kids next door lol. Yes, he does look like him lmao
The music is top notch. Props to the dev! I definitely would've paid for it. :)
Welcome to the The Binding of Isaac club. How The Binding of Isaac are you?
Eh, a little binding, somewhat Isaac.
I already love this thread
@@bellabruns275 Full binding. No isaac. Take it or leave it.
This was....different. Very surreal. I hope this dev uses the concept in a future game, its really cool.
Jokes on you I don't have a basement...yet. I need a place to hide the bodies
I'm not scared of what's in my basement, what's in my basement is terrified of me and hides
I really enjoyed this, the story was quirky but had charm, and dog ending up okay was a plus.
This game and art style was really cool to me, I enjoyed this entire play through. The hour went by really quickly.
58:16 She said "GO AWAYY!!!" but she blocked the exit. 🙃
Oh wow, the music is awesome!🕺🏻
Hoping you get to check out Wick, it's a small (current preview) of a Little Nightmares-style game where you play as a small sentient candle
A sentient candle sounds adorable...until the Little Nightmares part. Now I have to wonder if it's secretly evil and eating souls. :(
It's pretty good. It has a pretty noticeable case of tell and not show in my opinion, and the pacing issues as Manly said. The lore can be brought in better. But it's not a bad game, yeah. I'm a sucker for pixel horror.
I like how most of the time he says "You're gonna burn alright."
this is the equivalent of "Yare Yare Daze..."
Our character at the beginning looking for a match had those highbeam eyes.
You are absolutely the best, you opened my eyes to the best games ever. Thank you.
I’ve learned from MBH that saying “Go Away” to any horrifying creature instantly makes them go away.
Lying here with a broken ankle rn good thing manly exists to soothe my pain
Hope it got better.
@@Jesus-Henry-Christ it did actually,it's all healed and i still managed to get all my shoes to fit despite it!

Nice,Happy to hear that.
46:40 What was that tear-able wall with the 2 beds hid again?
Drake Warrior possibly making people go slowly insane and put people into the mines by distrust
When he said "mamaaaaaaaaaa" I hoped I would have heard manly say "uwuuuuuuu"
Спасибо за контент, в рус сегменте только поп-игры, которые всем надоели. Ты как глоток свежего воздуха!
Thanks for the content, in the Russian segment there are only pop games that everyone is tired of. You are like a breath of fresh air!
Manly's voice work is so good, I honestly thought the voices were coming from the game.
Everytime I watch your videos I always go down this giant rabbit hole. One minute I'm watching the angels of death playthrough then in looking up conspiracies on it and next im watching the anime for it
Congratulations for reaching 300k subscribers!
Always looked forward to watching your videos.
Nine years! Damn you go dude, these videos are awesome
This game deserves a lot more recognition. Maybe an expanded story tho.
I mean... My basement is fine, it has a couple of ghosts and spirits roaming around it, but that's nothing to worry about
I died when manly started singing queen 😂
This game's music is really good. Some tracks remind me of the Shadowrun games.
Nyahaha 😼300k Subs 🥳congrats Manly
SN: Did any1 else notice when the kid looked at the pic in the very beginning of himself his father & mother that the baby had 4 eyes?
“The basement of the world” Implying that caves/mines/areas below sea level are just being used for storage for now,,, what a comforting thought ,,
53:17 the "Wowowowowowoooow" was quite melodic ya know?
oh-ho i love me some horror when it's near midnight
That sound effect at 3:00 sounds just like the "screaming" setting on my Roland FP-90 piano! The low pitches sound exactly like that!
The different shadow mechanics managed to be pretty varied. Over an hour of the same would have been tedious, but they let you start tossing matches and then a fan blows out the match etc.
It looks like there are people on the outside, trying to keep the stuff inside the town in.
Code name: KND(Kids Next Door) and the "dad villain" was "Father" and spoiler alert turns out to be Nigel Uno's(leader of the KND), uncle.
It sure is nice of the monster to let you take a nice nap uninterrupted.
About the mom.. I get it, it turns out she loved her daughter as well. But.. Why did she cut her daughter out of the family picture?
Best commentary as always :) Thank you for posting Manly :)
"Um, there is evil there. Goodbye."
I feel like that game could have a part 2 or something.
So cool.
like.. chapter 2 or something?
