As a ryu main i think what you’re saying is accurate asf like 75% of my losses come from me tryna check drive rushes or throw attempts and my buttons falling short

Same here. It seems like Ryu just doesn’t have the range like some characters do. His only decent range poke check is his cr. mk but it’s so susceptible to drive impact making it not ideal to spam. Standing HP is good but I feel like it’s so slow. Frustrating but still fun to play though.

I'm guessing he was looking at opponent's health bar, as it had a clear flicker for a split second which probably triggered Punk's hit confirm reaction before it instantly snapped back to no damage. Otherwise I don't see how it's possible and the hit animation was really brief.

I mean that's a hitconfirm , quite common in 3rd strike on fightcade , you try to 1 button confirm into supper when there's a rollback and you got trolled by the hp bar, this is not what makes him impressive, it's everything else he does , this is just good reactions from repetition

He’s low tier because he’s not meant to aggress, which in turn means you have to know the game and the matchups to bring out the broken main character effect 😂 otherwise Ryu is getting toasted because he is mid (like literally mid. Mid speed, mid fire ball, middle ground in every area of the game other than damage potential)

Yours isn't optimal either. St.hk does more damage than b.hp and cancel into shoryuken would do more damage than any donkey kick. Could have linked the st.mp into cr.mp too.

No matter how much I played I will never be able to even be 1/16 as good as Punk, or any of these guys that go to the competitions. It sucks because I have been playing since 2 at the arcades and it actually seems like the more I play the worse I get.
Its all about the mentality. My advice is dont compare yourself to others. Focus on your game focus on what you like and grow and improve. You can do it it just starts with mentality.

I notice a lot of people saying Ryu needs more buffs but wtf is there to buff? Maybe M hasho or donkey being safe would help his frame trap game or give him a plus mp? Other than than I don't see any avenues to buff him.
He needs a rework on his buttons to make them better neutral and in combos unless it's a punish counter drive rush combo he cannot do a lot of damage
@@bigfitts that's the problem tho. You just end up creating a whole new character by then and they probably won't do it too since it's very unlikely that they'll scrap a complete and released work.

They just need to change his animations to make him a better all around character if he's getting hit and hurt boxes were closer to Ken and Luke's he would be a better beginner character for new players and have a higher skill ceiling for veterans

What I like about buffed Ryu is that while he hits like a caravan of trucks, his gameplan is still straighforward and it's 100% your fault if you do get hit.

Ryu needs better normals right now. Or, Denjin Charge could have 3 stacks; more range on his drive rush. Theses changes will make him viable.
Ryu IS viable, those buffs will just make him too good, hell, even make him the most broken character in the game. Also his normals are very nice, he dosent need better normals

Punk used the wrong buttons to check the drive rushes. No one's lights or not many character's lights would have worked in those situations. Mediums were what he had to do, specifically cr. MP or MK.
@@DjSeruchi ryu's jab is half a training ground bar shorter than cammy, thats taping forward for 3 frames, and cammy's jab can check them, the reason why punk cant do so with ryu has more to do that he is not used to play him more than ryu not being uncapable.
