THIS SERIES NEEDS TO END ALREADY. YOU ARE COMPLICIT IN THE HARASSMENT OF CHRIS. Letting this series run for over 79 episodes is absurd and completely unnecessary. Maybe this series does help deter SOME people from harassing cwc because it shows how horrible the trolls have been, but I think it causes a larger amount of people to become morbidly obsessed with her and go down the pipeline to become a troll that harasses her. Anyone that gets involved in the toxic and disgusting community of people who view cwc as entertainment has the potential to become a troll. I guarantee this series has much more of a negative impact than a positive impact and Geno should be called out on that more often.

If anything, it's possibly better because the collections could go to someone that actually cares about them. At least he didn't throw them out.
I was given a random quarter collection some years back, but I really didn't care about it outside of the fact that it was money. So I've been using them as laundry money lately.

    • @ouroboros5656
      @ouroboros5656 5 років тому +802

I'd rather that he sell them. Seriously. It's clear to me that Chris never respected his father's wishes in the first place and probably only remembers the letters from his dad because Geno put them all into videos. And while it's not like Chris will suddenly start cutting the hoard down just because he sold a part of it, it's better that those records and stamps find homes where they can be appreciated. Whether it be by people genuinely interested in collecting these things, or by people merely interested in Christory or those wanting to pay respects to Bob's wishes.
I only hope he sells them for what they're worth. But knowing Chris he has no clue how to even start appraising what he has. And either sells it for far, far more than it's worth or criminally undercuts himself.

preach, I have an autistic niece and nephew, And a very autistic neighbor, Chris Chans behavior and transgressions have nothing to do with their autism. It’s possible to be both a horrible person and also autistic. It’s possible to be a predator and also autistic. People are placing way too much emphasis on the autistic part. It’s OK to empathize with someone for being autistic and it’s OK to have compassion and sensitivity to people who are on the spectrum not only that but with any mental illness or physical affliction but we can’t forget the horrendous things that this person has done and I’ve seen in the comments on a lot of Chris Chan videos autistic people expressing concern that somehow they are more predisposed to becoming a monster like this, and I’m gonna say it loud and say it clear for the people in the back: no, you are not autism does not create things like this! It’s not an excuse for things like this it’s not incidental to things like this don’t have that fear you are who you are. You may be someone with autism, but that doesn’t define you as a person that’s not your identity. You are a person with autism not an autistic person remember that

It's kinda hard to say "most documented person" because Chris is only in his 30s and most of that documentation is from 2007 onward, so there's half of Chris's life we know relatively little about. Just look at how little time it takes in this series before we get to the trolling.
It's also worth pointing out that documenting someone's life is more than just archiving their life. Besides this documentary, there are very few GOOD documentaries about Chris. Most are just 20 minute videos by orbiters jumping on a trend. There is very little informative text about Chris. Mostly news articles or the CWCki. As far as I know there are no biographies of Chris. To be fair, he's still alive, and that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Chris is probably the most ARCHIVED person in history. And eventually one day maybe he'll be the most documented. But it's unlikely. He just doesn't have the worldwide fame someone like Napoleon or Lincoln had. No historians or documentarians are out there looking to make a 5 volume biography of Chris.

The fault lies heavily on his parent for never properly addressing his issues and basically ignoring it his whole life. Could've taken him out of the internet, could've sent him to a mental hospital to help him but ofc not a single of those thing ever happened in his life.

I have my Masters in Intellectual Disability/Autism and currently work as a head special ed teacher. I've watched this entire series because it is truly a remarkable case study of what happens when Autism and disabilities are not taken seriously from a young age. The story of Chris being locked in the toy room, his parents leaving him with a baby sitter, possible abuse from school staff, his dad paying girls off to be his friend, and everything else in Part I truly lay the groundwork for everything we see down the line. Chris had the unfortunate lot in life to be born in 1980s rural Virginia to an elderly couple that was not equipped and unwilling to get him the help that he needed, and a school system that wasn't equipped to help him either. If he had the proper support from a young age he could have lived a relatively healthy and normal life. I think about the teacher who he liked the most, she seems to have been the only adult in his life that actually treated him with dignity and tried to help him succeed (and truly believed he could have). People talk up Bob a lot, and while he was a sad man and earnest, he mostly wanted Chris to preserve his legacy and be seen as "normal" over everything else. Paying people to befriend him and ignore his disability doomed him to a life of delusion and agony. Every day I think about Chris and the work I do to help kids like him, and I try my darndest to make sure something like this never happens again. Truly gives me purpose tbh.

So, I have a question. I have Asperger's, or what's considered "high functioning" autism. Compared to myself and other socially high functioning neurodivergent people I know, Chris Chan is a living dumpster fire. As in, every single decision they make leads to tragedy for either themself, those around them, or both. I don't see how someone like them could be considered "high functioning" in any sense. So would they still be considered as "high functioning" by today's standards? I mean, we have a lot more medical knowledge about those on the autism spectrum now. I feel like Chris Chan was only diagnosed as "high functioning" when they were little because they weren't entirely non verbal. So in your expert opinion, where on the "high functioning" to "low functioning" spectrum would you place Chris on?

@Lassi Kinnunen 81 I believe, though I may be wrong, that the letter was written before they knew that Chris was autistic. Bob was hoping for a normal kid, a kid who could be a proud legacy. I would love more documentation on Bob from before Chris, I know that autistic children often have one of two results on the parents. They either break the parents and bring out their worse traits that may have never otherwise surfaced, or they show just how good the parent is.
I've witnessed both first hand, and have heard many similar stories. It isn't universal, and while I can recount two extremes, I know many many cases in the middle exist.
I witnessed one of the most loving people I've ever met turn into a monster under the stress of her autistic daughter, which resulted in her being abandoned by her husband, until she decided to poison herself, her daughter, and her non-autistic teenage son at dinner. Her son only survived because he was in the middle of a depression after his first girlfriend left him and he didn't eat much. I remember him coming around to see me after I heard the news, asking if I could give him a place to crash and store his things until he could find a way cross country to his grandparents'. He showed me the note his mother left, and the journal detailing everything she went through with her daughter. Begged me to read it and mark the parts I felt were most important to make sense of it because he was scared and confused. It was heart breaking, you could read as the woman was twisted into being a monster just trying to find a normal life for her daughter until she came to hate the daughter, and, realizing what she turned into, herself, and decided her son must have turned into the same kind of monster, and none of them should live.
Yet, to leave you a happier note. I also witnessed the most white trash, drug addicted, welfare abusing people you can imagine have their fourth kid, and the kid turned out to be autistic, and realizing that the kid would never be able to fend for itself, turned themselves around. They both got educated, they both found jobs, they are putting their other kids through school now, and they are doing all they can to take care of and find the best life for their autistic son. Not a normal life, but a good one.
I think that often is the difference in mindset that turns people into monsters. The monsters always seem to want a normal life for their autistic child above all else, while those who turn out decent just want a decent life for their kid.

@@squirrel_killer- to be fair, most parents of autistic children today have access to medical support or information to help understand how to best care for the child. Bob thought he knew better than professionals, and his decisions made Chris’ life growing up way more difficult than it had to be. And like you said, he probably loved Chris and wanted the best for him despite how he turned out. That said, Barb and Bob’s parenting was just one piece of the horrifying 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle that is Chris Chan’s life story.
Second point: I assume you’re talking about extremes on the autism spectrum near the end, because there are a lot of kids with milder forms of autism who can lead normal lives, with some adjustments. That said, mild autism can still set back a child if their mental health needs aren’t taken care of, because they still face hurtles that that people without autism don’t even have to think about, and teaching them the tools to come to terms with it should be a parent’s first priority. No parent is perfect, and raising kids with special needs can be difficult for a lot of people, but there’s only so far those excuses can go to justify parent’s missteps, however well-intentioned. That’s also why I commend those parents you mentioned for cleaning up and doing right by their children. It takes a lot to admit when you need to change for the betterment of your family, and even more to follow through with it.
My condolences to your friend, that first story was heartbreaking. I hope he’s doing well after everything that happened.

It was seen as career ending in public fields if you even pursued diagnosis/treatment for it (Hipaa started in 1996), The mental institutions were closed down rapidly in the 80s, and also in the early 90's schools were pushing Ritalin like TicTacs. They were subjected to none stop propaganda from the media about mental health and ADHD was just starting to get clinically studied. Sure their son was weird but it could be played off as a Bobby Hill "The boy ain't right." way. They likely hoped his computer fascination would lead to a future where thats what he worked with.

There is one massive positive about these events. This is a treasure trove of documentation that gives great insight into mental illness, delusions, and the backstory of someone that would grow to become the monster that Chris is. It will be very valuable in further understanding individuals like him in the future and may give modern medical professionals the insight they need to better prevent such misconduct in the coming years. There is little if anything left to the imagination, and the fact that this is all mainstream means it will have a huge impact if properly studied.

Seven, and some change, years ago at a waffle house I held a door for an old man in a cowboy hat and he tipped it to me and said "Thank you kindly.". I have a few memories of stuff like that. Kind of pathetic probably but because of how much those little moments mean to me I try to do the same for others. In an extremely twisted, morbid way, Bob may have been the only person to 'profit' from this whole ordeal. Bob was extremely fearful of being forgotten. If not for his horrible son and his internet antics, the only two people on planet earth who would remember him fondly are Chris and Barb. Chris will never have kids, and Bobs other family members are unlikely to pass on his memory. I think alot about right before Bob passed. Chris was in his room twerking and singing "Fuck the Pain Away". Meanwhile, Bob was LITERALLY dying in the other room. On the day he finally passed, Chris posted on Facebook a list of qualifications a girl must have to be with him. If not for his shitty kid, Bobs ultimate fear would come true. He would have been forgotten, and his legacy lost. For as much suffering Chris caused Bob, he was the one thing that kept his memory alive. Its almost like one of those fucked up 'be careful what you wish for' stories.

I imagine Bob in his 20s finding a genie lamp or monkeys paw that would grant him one wish.
He thinks about what he wants and knows pretty much anything he would ever ask for would rot away once he died, not being able to grasp it anymore.
He finally decided the one thing that would last would be other people’s memory of him.
So he wished that a creation he made in his lifetime on earth, and his legacy be known of and remembered by many.
It took while before the creation that would make his life memorable came to be, but Chris fulfilled the promise, maybe not in the way Bob hoped he would, but nevertheless his wish was fulfilled.
