    He should have kept his mouth shut…walleye are way better eating than trout and I wouldn’t call strawberry a trophy anything
    He also should have kept his mouth shut because he’s super annoying! “What the heck, what the heck”
    Shut up already

    Walleye are one of the coolest fish out there, but Strawberry is probably the best trout fishery I've ever been to. Trout are not as cool as walleye, but Strawberry needs to be walleye-less because of how unique it is for numbers of big trout. Trout can keep Strawberry, walleye can have their way with Starvation

    That's both awesome and sad at the same time. Hopefully these don't start causing issues with the trout. I'm an amateur fisher and fish at Strawberry quite a bit but didn't realize that walleye weren't supposed to be there, so it's good you knew that and didn't release it cause I might have. So with that being said, maybe someone else has caught one but just released it, or took it home but didn't realize that it should have been reported cause they didn't realize that was not good.

    I hate how everyone thinks that trout are not predators and are just as aggressive if not more aggressive than walleye. Look at the whole of the colombia river, trout bass perch salmon steelhead catfish and walleye all co-exist. And no the walleye don't eat all the trout fry any more than a perch or trout would eat a walleye fry. I think we need more walleye in trout waters 😂 and before any one comments I'm from Idaho and we are dealing with the same issue in our snake river and surrounding lakes/reservoirs. IDFW and Utah game and fish is going to do more damage to the fisheries as a whole trying to control and manage the walleye than if they just left them for anglers to harvest. They aren't the devil fish people make them out to be. trout are cool but walleye are cooler 😂

    • @BackyardBoyTV
      @BackyardBoyTV  9 місяців тому +1

      The only reason it's been made such a big deal is because of the harm walleye could cause in the future to the strawberry trout population. It's not a guarantee, but it's certainly possible that the addition of another predator could cause some issues. Which is the aftermath of a lot of illegal introductions. But I'm with you man! I'd be one of the last to complain about having more lakes to target walleye 😂 but, I don't love them enough to sacrifice one of the best trout fisheries in the state. If we could have a population of walleye in strawberry that isn't negativity affecting the trout populations that I'm all for it! And I'm honestly hoping that that's the result of this whole thing.

      @BackyardBoyTV it's hard to believe fishermen and their fish tales 😆 But it doesn't appear to be any other evidence of anymore caught . At least I couldn't find any on social media with an actual catch.

    Utah is the only state that views Walleye as a trash fish. The bucket biology occurs because the DWR has created too many trout lakes and not enough opportunity for Walleye fishing. Trout and Walleye can coexist. Lets remember that most of these "lakes" are made man reservoirs with stocked fish. The Bear Lake Cutthroat trout are not indigenous to the rivers that feed strawberry and all of the rainbows are sterile.

    • @BackyardBoyTV
      @BackyardBoyTV  8 місяців тому

      I wouldn't say that Utah considers them as a trash fish at all, especially considering all the work and resources that have gone into managing the reservoir just down the lake for trophy walleye. Yeah, walleye and trout can coexist without issues, but adding the population of walleye to a reservoir that doesn't have any can also certainly cause problems. It's not guaranteed, but it's certainly possible. Why risk ruining the amazing trout fishing in Strawberry when there's amazing walleye fishing just down the road?

    • @joshdye4893
      @joshdye4893 8 місяців тому

      @@BackyardBoyTV I agree Starvation is a fantastic Walleye lake. Why are there not more reservoirs like it? I'm arguing if there were more lakes featuring Walleye then people wouldn't participate in bucket biology. You can introduce sterile Walleye to lakes the same way they do Rainbows. The DWR likes trout because they are easy to catch, and recently has been obsessed with adding Kokanee everywhere. Rockport is chock full of undersized perch why not put some Walleye in that lake? Why not put some in Jordanelle? The only reason they are in Deer Creek/Echo is because of bucket biologist. Clearly people want the opportunity to fish for Walleye or this wouldn't keep happening. I wish the DWR were more transparent on how they decide on which species they are going to stock in any given reservoir.
      I agree Strawberry is a premier trout lake and that's fine. Why not mix it up at some of these other reservoirs that are not blue ribbon fisheries. Walleye are delicious and are challenging/rewarding fish to catch.

    • @BackyardBoyTV
      @BackyardBoyTV  8 місяців тому

      If you think about it, there are a good amount of walleye lakes in utah. Willard, Starvation, and Powell are pretty consistent producers. As well as Big Sandwash, Lake Boreham, Echo, Deer Creek, and yuba bringing success to a lot of fisherman. Plus, the DWR has stocked sterile walleye in scofield in recent years. Considering we are in an area of the country that isn't known for walleye, I'd say we have plenty of opportunity for them. I am not a biologist however, so I obviously don't know all the logistics behind it. I'd assume it's expensive to manage the walleye we already have let alone adding more populations, but maybe that's not the case. Clearly the DWR has their reasons behind where or where they don't stock walleye and I'm happy to sit back and let them make that decision.
      And in all reality, bucket biology is something that will happen regardless of the density of a species in a state. For example: The green sunfish, bluegill and green sunfish that were illegally stocked in kolob reservoir. There's a lot of lakes with those species and someone still dumped them in kolob.

    • @joshdye4893
      @joshdye4893 8 місяців тому

      @@BackyardBoyTV You are able to name less than 10 lakes across the entire state that have Walleye. 2 of them Echo/Deer Creek they were introduced illegally. Now name all the lakes that are stocked with trout. We are in an area of the country that is now known for rainbow trout despite the fact that they are not native to Utah either. A few more Walleye lakes wouldn't hurt. After all these are man made lakes and the fish are stocked for anglers to enjoy.

    • @BackyardBoyTV
      @BackyardBoyTV  8 місяців тому

      The same way that idaho, colorado, Montana, and most of the other surrounding states are known for trout. I'm assuming the DWR is prioritizing trout because they're easier to manage. Now I love walleye as much as the next guy and would love to see them in more lakes. But clearly there's reasons why the DWR doesn't stock walleye in more of our lakes. And it is what it is.
