Moi 73, c'est curieux moi également. Je suis hyper heureux d'entendre cette version épurée, je peux même sur "my sweet LORD" en accompagnement rajouter la partie slide de GEORGE en écoutant le titre. je forme "a new band" with George.😋😋😋
According to Dhani, George played the solo(s) on Lucy. It is not the first time Clapton is incorrectly attributed to playing the guitar solo on a Harrison album. For a number of years, listeners and music critics (most of whom play no instrument and have no functioning knowledge of music theory) assumed that Clapton played the stinging leads on Harrison's dark version of the Everly Bros' Bye Bye Love (Dark Horse). It was Harrison -- who also played the rubbery jazzy/funk bass as well as all of the other instruments and vocals on the interesting one-off.
You know how sometimes people are like "you don't miss it till it's gone" I find that Phil Spector's producing it's quite the opposite. I don't hate it till it's gone. After I hear a record without it, I'm like "...oh. oh, this is so much better".
I love the 2020 mix but this is honestly even better! I can hear all the nuances in the guitars, drums, bass and vocal. I honestly think the album would have sold just as well if George released it like this.
I love this naked version! I also love the 'Esher' sessions of the White album, they have the same freshness and relaxed feel to them. They are on You tube.
I love Harrison and this album in particular. However, I always found the orchestrations to be too busy, even confusing. This "stripped down" version highlights the quality of George's compositions, his warm voice and his singing. Good job !
Thank you for posting - I bookmarked this page so I can listen again. The last time I heard the whole album was in the 1970s. I have a CD of Early Takes Vol. 1 in my car and listen to it whenever I go out for errands. I love George Harrison's music and never get tired of it.
This is so much better than the Spector production that it defies comprehension that George would allow such noisy dilution of his simple, gorgeous music. It's so nice to hear the actual instrumentation of George's band(s). I had always been ambivalent about this album, even while liking the general melodies and lyrics. This version liberates the actual original concepts behind the music. Thank you so much for this.
I did this using the same sources too. I was hoping to be able to construct it using the 5.1 mix but it wasn't a discrete mix so it was hard to separate out elements. I also assembled something I called Acoustic Pass and made an ultimate version of the demos using the super deluxe version mainly but the intros and count ins from the bootleg.
Truly, these songs needed no further embellishment than what is here. So good to hear this. I miss George Harrison. I hope to meet Dhani Harrison one day and to make music with him as his drummer.
I’ll always love this album no matter what, Spector or not. But, hot damn, this is just so awesome and lovely and I wish it was released like this. Thank you for doing this.
This a breathe of fresh air. George wanted to despectorise this album before he passed, but meber got the vhance. I think it also tells a deeper insecurity of george and john not having the confidence in just their natural anilities to make a record. I doubt if heorge would have been sued for my sweet lord if he released version
Spector's production (or over production) helps a song like "What is Life" but on many others it begins to sound muddied/muddled. And yes, finally, a version of "All Things Must Pass" without that irritating slide guitar thing.
To those who are asking: I do not have anywhere to download this album, and I don’t have plans to make a Google drive or wtv where you can download the files. If you really wanna listen to these songs, all of them can be found on George’s “Early Takes Volume 1” album and on the Super deluxe version of ATMP. These should both be on Spotify and Apple Music. If people really want a playlist at least I can make that and link it here though
Thanks! I don't really like Spector's production on this album. I always found it weird that you could barely hear the wah-wah on a song called "Wah-Wah".
Month's earlier he released 'Wonderwall ' his first album after the break up i didn't miss the Indian connection that preluded this collection. I was 15

All these anti-Phil Specter comments are ludicrous & ill informed, George presided over ALL THE FINAL MIXES, because Phil disappeared before the album was finished. I thought everybody knew this. every phil spector produced album deserves a corresponding naked version
His early 60’s work with his own stable aside, totally agree; someone should have a go at the Lennon stuff
Couldn't agree more. Tear down that damn wall!
Imagine sounds pretty good
Most of them. But, how could JL/Plastic Ono Band sound any more naked? :)

Comparto en un todo. Tengo 65 años y G. Harrison fue un musico inmenso. Desde Argentina.
I was born in '74....but I agree nonetheless.
Dude, the album hitted me like a truck, this naked version its so much better ❤️ more clean and i can feel every word and meaning from George

Yes. Reminds me of Danny Kirwan.

Didn't George dislike Phil Spector's production? I swear I heard something along those lines anyway, is that why he changed to Jeff Lynne?
Spector was overrated. Let it be naked was better than his version
This perspective even further showcases what a talented musician George was.
I am SO happy I found this!! Simpler and more natural and real. How lovely. (Sitting here with my cockatiel “Harrison.”)

he hated it later. theres a radio interview in 89 in which someone adds reverb to his voice and guitar and he says "we dont do that anymore"
Love hearing George like this!
I am so loving this. Anyway you shake it, this remains the best post Beatle lp.
The best post Beatles is RAM by Paul .
This is better than Ram, not really because the music is better. But because it’s about twice the length.

All Things Must Pass, RAM, Plastic Ono Band, in that order. At least imo.

Agreed! I've always hated the slide on that song. I'd love a slightly fuller production that just removes it, honestly.
Also missing the harmonies and prominent bass guitar on Wah-Wah, but this stripped down version was pretty charming
Bro what?? “What Is Life” is like literally the ONE song on All Things Must Pass that doesn’t benefit from Phil’s production.
"What is Life" to me is one of the most egregiously overproduced songs on the album and that's saying a lot.
