Thank you so much for bringing awareness to Schizoid PD. We (including Mental Health Professionals) still know way too little about it so many still get misdiagnosed and don’t receive the treatment that would be best for them. It’s still something that’s not on the radar of many therapists or psychiatrists unfortunately…

This is way too relatable, Emma is me and I am Emma.

Oh wow! This example is extremely close to my own life experiences! I will have to dig deeper/learn more, but judging by the through-lines between this example and the last example, I don’t think I *quite* meet the criteria, but I can still relate to about 80% of this factionalized account of a person with schizoid. In my case, I am relatively certain my schizoid-like traits are due to a combination of giftedness, ADHD, potentially being on the spectrum, and a hefty dose of childhood trauma (which created a disorganized attachment style).
The primary differences so far are:
    1. I have always craved a few close relationships, and I have always especially craved romantic/sexual relationships. I feel most comfortable with a long-term partner whom I can spend a lot of time just existing with. That being said, as an adult I have come to realize that most of the time I just…am not interested in socializing with anyone outside of my partner and pets…like, I don’t think I need as much socialization as other people-or perhaps I just need more alone time? I view my social relationships in rings of closeness with the vast majority of my relationships in the outermost rings.
    2. I have a LOT of desires for the future and a LOT of motivation/determination (I just have trouble sticking with tasks and completing them before having a new shiny idea, haha).
    3. I used to be FAR more arrogant in my view of myself versus others. As I have grown and matured though, I have put a LOT of work into tempering that and trying to change my perspective so that I view differences in others not as faults, but rather as just differences-they certainly have strengths that I lack just as much and therefore I am no better.
Fascinating topic, Dr. Honda. Thank you for doing this-*love* your deep dives!

Uhhhhhhh... Emily's story and my story are so similar including the diagnoses of ADHD and BD during school. O: I think my therapist and I have new things to talk about

Yeah I can relate to her story so much that it blows my mind. I've been diagnosed with depression and adhd which has proved to very difficult to get diagnosed because of the overlapping symptoms. I had to be the one to ask for an adhd assessment because i knew i had issues that aligned diagnoses almost to the tee; not surprised i was right. But it makes so much more sense looking into schizoid pd that it has something to do with my personality. I should really thank my parents for the wonderful representation of human love and interaction that I am here today, love it hahaaaaaaaaa

Oh. Now for sure I have to get on patron 😅. Curious how with a presentation like Emma’s you can differentiate schizoid PD from ASD.

I feel a lot of this makes better sense using personality theory specifically mbti and the various and many aspects relating to asd such as meltdowns etc. to explain Emma’s issues.

As soon as you mentioned the headphones in public anecdote I jumped, there were just too many similarities between this chapter and the first it is both frighteningly accurate and extremely validating
