Nice review! For being a somewhat weird 4-8-4, the DRG BR 06 really made the N&W J Class look really good in my opinion. Also, that "Belgian" engine pulling your Orient Express is probably based on a Danish prototype.
Personally, I think it quite a handsome locomotive with a beautiful consist. I think it’s appearance will grow on you. I would ask Rick Moranis his opinion.
I have mine in trix, it was interesting upon arrival. Draw needed repair and I had to fiddle with the speaker… there was some rattle. Beautiful model though
Yup, most definitely Dark Helmet! But beautiful locomotive. It’s amazing how the packaging from all the various manufacturers all looks the same these days. Great video as always. Question about your layout skyline background, it looks like Pittsburgh but not sure???
Thank you so very much! I guess the industry has figured out the standard it wants to keep in the packaging area.. It's actually San Diego in the background.
I know I'm a bit late to the game but what an amazingly spoken review. Informative and enjoyable. Yes, the 06 has all the subtleties of a coal scuttle helmet. Just having a look at marklins first effort of the 06 in the 1939 00 catalogue. Be interesting to know what yours weighs, märklins first effort was 900 grams. I personally think it looks better as the short version. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Reichsbahn streamliners. They just look brutish to me. Although to be fair the east German DR 18 201 was made from one of the better ones: the henschel wegmann train. But realistically the subtleties of streamlining aesthetics seemed to have skipped the Reichsbahn, although previous efforts did include a railcar with an unprotected propeller out the back. I'd like to think that someone could see the joke at the design office...
I got this beauty from Brawa in blue color. I like big locos and this is one of my favourite. Her 4-8-4 "Northern" configuration is very rare in Europe. My vid here: ua-cam.com/video/j1VsnarhZ-I/v-deo.html
9.40 "full steam until the lid blows off the ????" after that a description about the 06 series, only 2 were built from 1934, after the war they were found too heavy and were scrapped. From what I get they could move weight to change turning point? As A Dutchman living in Ohio I'm really interested in these two rail European engines, do you have any experience with running these with an nce powercab, or maybe the trix engines? Great video!!
Ah, well, then maybe we'll run into each other one of these days! I don't use any NCE products at that level. The Marklin and Trix live together very well and I have no problems with them. I think NCE would work fine, but you won't be able to take advantage of the special MFX features since you'll have to use DCC only.
I'm a sucker for streamlined steamers, so this was a cool one. "Evil Coronation" had me chuckling" There is one european steamer I've been trying to find. Do you know if anybody makes the Belgian class 12 Atlantic?
I think Marklin is hit or miss with the smoke. My 02 314 is rather weak, but the 06 and the Albatros really chuck out smoke. I really wonder why the inconsistency, especially at these prices
If I showed you my trix 06 001 the difference is shocking. The locomotive really just sends it out. I know they were late to the game, but I do believe they need to step it up for these generators
Due to the tender rear three axle boggie being fixed and able to swival it derail forward and reverse. I tried to run this loco on r2 curve c track so I returned it for a refund. Very disappointed in Marklin for producing a very poorly designed 06-001/39662 model.
Ah, I’m starting to hear a lot of reports of bad running habits with this model. I have such a simple track plan that most of these flaws don’t show up. I’ll know what to expect in the future.
I kind of like the looks, as they were made to look menacing. Besides that (and apparently a bunch of other folks), I ran into traction and derailing issues: ua-cam.com/video/gvz7wonXhvc/v-deo.html. Since you apparently have no switches or R1 curves in your Marklin track, you may not have seen this issue.
@@officialpennsyjoe That was the first model issued 21 years ago. ALl the new versions are better and actually since I have the Brawa and now the Marklin I can say the Brawa is better, Full metal with no plastic parts, the separation between the tender and the locomotive is closer and has no click problems. Also in this video I can see that the smoke unit of this Marklin is not working ok since should do chufs with a lot of smoke since it is Dynamic. I don´t know if the owner put sufficient smoke liquid on it.
Nice review !!! When they are talking, they are explaining the history of this loco. I have not received the car set to go with this loco, so I did use some Marklin "Schuerzenwagen" I found on eBay in Gremany: ua-cam.com/video/xyps14WXj5k/v-deo.html
Oh, thank you for this explanation! It's a very nice consist that you're running! I guess I am not too sad that I do not have the "official" set as I think the one I have on it looks better for whatever reason. Take care and thanks for communicating!
@@DoctorHobby I agree, your "Schuerzenwagen" set looks like an excellent match. I have another dark blue set I've run behind another streamliner: ua-cam.com/video/Io9lgFe-oIc/v-deo.html

Smoke unit is not working well or you have not fill the unit with enough smoke liquid as the instruction says.

Oh, interesting. Yes. I basically run the Indianapolis Motor Speedway when it comes to Marklin, so it doesn’t get much easier than that, I suppose?
Good thing you got the Marklin one instead of the Brawa one.
They both look nice.. but is it me, but are Brawa chuff rates always off?
