I only say the tornado damage was awesome because nobody got seriously injured. "Awesome" probably isn't the right word for it but still. Mother nature is pretty darn impressive but also very scary. - Cory

To answer your question on what would survive the best with a tornado a house or a building, I would say a dome home. Look them up, they are tanks when it come to natural disasters, they are so cool.

I see a lot of comments saying that you should be careful about your diction regarding tornado damage. Oklahomans are nothing if not resilient. I have lived in Moore for 23 years and have lived through a lot of deadly tornadoes and participated in the cleanup of the May 3rd tornado in 1999 and the May 20th in 2013. Nobody I know who has had damage or lost their home or even lost loved ones will be offended when you talk about the damage like that. Every one of my neighbors always go outside when the sirens come on to see the tornado, but still take precautions. We have a respectful relationship with the weather here and we grow closer because of it. Just don't make the mistake of belittling other's experiences. We have had elementary school full of children that have been hit.

It **IS** cool to see what kind of impact a storm like that can have. They are obviously not saying its "cool" or "fun" that people were injured or had property damage/loss. For someone who has never seen damage like that in person I'm sure it was very interesting to drive around and look. Ya'll better go get a storm shelter now!

The property floods. The ground floor of the house itself is above the level of flooding but a basement would likely flood. They will have to build a strong safe shelter without it being too deep underground. I guess the previous owners felt invincible. The sooner the Williams get a shelter the better!

My great granny grew up in Oklahoma in the early 1900s. Our favorite story she used to tell was the time a tornado came through. She was a little girl, and as her dad was opening the storm cellar doors she began to get carried away in the storm. He reached up and grabbed her by the ankle and threw her down into the safety of the cellar. I'm so glad my granny didn't fly away, and I'm glad little Chell has an awesome daddy to protect her, too! Yes, definitely get a storm shelter!! ;)

The highlight of my day so far is coming into the house this morning from changing sprinklers in ninety-two degrees plus humidity, opening the front door and the air conditioner has it down to seventy-five with low humidity, grabbing a popsicle and watching this video. Ahhhh.

I was caught in tornado weather on the highway 3 miles from my home, it was 2 in the afternoon, the sky went completly dark, the hail and rain was hitting the car sideways, the wind was pushing my car into the ditch and traffic was at a crawl. I really felt like I was going to die, my young son was with me. The funnel went away from us, but the weather that covered the area was like a literal hell. It took me days for my anxiety to go away, and I'll never forget that feeling or that 'look' of the sky. This was in Michigan, by the way.

  • @bunnehontherocks

The reason the tornado sirens didn't go off is because it happened so quickly they didn't have time to turn them on. You really can't rely on them for a tornado that happens that quickly. You guys need to download the FOX23 weather app and have a tornado radio.

Seeing the damage is cool, but like you say, it's not cool, but it's cool. You have an interest and a fascination to see what happened and by seeing what happened, you have a higher respect for the power of a tornado, even a relatively weak one, and that is cool.

    • @LiveEachDay

When you do, can you show an episode about the storm shelter? I think it would be good for people to understand more about tornadoes and how to be ready for them. Like you said in the video, in Oklahoma you learn to be calm about tornadoes and a big part of it is being prepared. Every place has its dangers you learn to prepare for, but on the positive side, every place also has amazing beauty and experiences.

MCLegoboy thanks, maybe I'm old fashioned but I understood that the word awesome can mean amazing but it also means terrifying or (simply) awe inspiring. I wish "people" could quit being keyboard warriors for a few minutes and actually get to know this man, his wife, his daughter and their pets.

Just want to let you guys know that I and many others do get that you were not trying to be flippant about the tornado. [Awesome: extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear."the awesome power of the atomic bomb."]I was super happy to hear you telling Chell that she couldn't pet these puppies because they were working. That's super important for people to understand and respect. You should never distract a service dog. You can ask if it is okay to approach and give a pet, but always respect a no as some dogs need to be alert to their owner's physiological state.
You are awesome parents. Love all the things you do with her.

I really love following you each day. I live in Tulsa and had my business (rather) destroyed by the damage. Again, I really enjoy following you each day, but I wasn't really sure that I would describe the tornado as "awesome" and "fun" and such responses as the "amazing" damage and having things destroyed. We lost everything with our business and it is heartbreaking for those who have lost everything. Please take this into account. Thank you.

Our tornado sirens go off every Tuesday at 10:00 as a test. But the neat thing is that we can hear about 3 or 4 different sirens going off at the same time too from the nearby towns, especially when we live a block away from the border of the next town which has two sirens a half mile away from us. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and over here we are packed in like sardines in other words our area outside of Chicago is pretty populated. So its easy to hear 4 sirens at the same time.

Sorry about all the misunderstood people in the comments. I totally understand how you can be fascinated and intrigued by a natural disaster that has so much power that can cause destruction. I don't think it is insensitive. Many of us feel the same way cz it is cool to see how despite our advancements mother nature can still sneak up on us and destroy what we've built. People are fascinated by WW, North Korea and serial killers and the like not because they are insensitive to the death they cause but because they are dangerous things and people want to understand it more. Your fans should know by now you would never be insensitive to anyones suffering. Especially knowing you've been a firefighter and volunteered to search for missing people back in Alaska. You didn't vlog the damage for views but because it was part of your day and it was informative to others who haven't seen tornado/damage as well. Im glad you shared it with us and really looking forward to seeing your storm shelter!

It really did my heart good to hear you teaching Chell about the Service Dogs!!! I wish more people knew this and followed this rule! Its so hard on the service team having to constantly tell random people no when asked to pet. The service dog is working, please don't distract it from its job, its a matter of life & death. When the best comes off, its not on the job and can be a normal dog. But, its still NOT A PET!

Okay, he did upload one in the last like 30 minutes or so, so you are technically correct. But the Kickstarter announcement doesn't count. That isn't actually about the MeanKitty himself, plus Cory put that exact same video on all four of his channels. So in the last three months, there have been four new videos, one of which is only about a half hour old.

type in "moore, ok tornadoes", F5 damage....what you saw in Tulsa is nothing compared to F5 damage. Like one other poster said, check out the damage from Joplin MO. Tornado scores are sort of like hurricane scores....going from F1 tp F2 is really more like double or triple then F3 which is double or triple that until F5 which is way more times damaging than the F2. Cory, it's like a 5.2 earthquake vs a 6.9 earthquake, huge damage difference even though it doesn't sound like it.

I can definitely relate with your excitement with tornados. Yes it sucks for businesses and people whose houses got ruined, but then you know that this can happen when you open a business or house in a tornado area. Thereby it is pretty cool to see how much power nature has in that way. Especially since nobody got hurt, I can defo understand that you found it so cool to see how strong nature is. It just shows that we don't own earth, earth owns us. I really hope that all the viewers don't pick on you being so excited about this, I hope they all understand that you just look to it from a different view and that you obviously understand the negative side from tornados too!

I was born in Arkansas but raised in a suburb north of Dallas and there was a time when I was in high school that every "major" storm produced a tornado of some kind. Tornado sirens went off SO often that we didn't even bother looking outside for more than a minute. Sometimes we'd just walk around outside to see if we could find the funnel cloud... Unfortunately we didn't have a tornado shelter, and while we were lucky and never were hit by one, it always TERRIFIED me to not have a true safe space. The closet under our first floor stairs could work I guess... but I was always still nervous. I now live in Utah for school, and love how it's no longer a possibility practically (I mean there still are tornadoes once ever few decades...but still). Definitely build a storm shelter and put some emergency food in there. :D I hope y'all can stay safe and we love you!

Tornadoes are scary because they're so unpredictable. They're terrifying when you're outside with nowhere to go (we were stuck outside when one was dropping with the only shelter was an overpass (which is one of the last places you want to be because of the way the wind is funneled).
Just remember: they can put a pine needle through a stop sign like a bullet. They can peel the pavement off the ground. Best place to be is underground :)

I highly recommend that you attend a NWS Spotter Training class when they start up again in the spring. The classes give you an amazing view of the weather from the people who are experts in the field. The spotter classes I've taken have been informative and entertaining (the videos of cars being flung into the air by a tornado are pretty breathtaking).
By they way, your comments about flying cell phones reminded me of a tornado that came through here six years ago. It caused a lot of damage (no deaths, thank goodness), and even took out one of the concourses at the StL airport. One business that was completely flattened was a hubcap store. I've always wondered how far those hubcaps flew once the tornado picked them up-- after all, most hubcaps are shaped like Frisbees, so they should be able to travel quite far.

Similar happened in my town a few years back with the location it struck. A tornado hit on the northern side of my town which is pretty much the commercial part of where I live. Fortunately no one got hurt, but there were a few overturned vehicles in store parking lots and structural damages around town.

Tori Gozz I wish we had a warning system for our earthquakes. I moved to Victoria 14yrs years ago and have only experienced 1 solid shake and a few little wobbles. It still scares the heck out of me thinking that my wife and kids are at the mercy of something so potentially devastating, but there are hazards anywhere you go. Darn it, my parentnoia is kicking in!

I hope you guys are seeing all these good comments instead of the bad! It's ridiculous that people are completely misconstruing your intent. Those of us who have been watching a long time, and I'm sure plenty of the new viewers, understand that your fascination with the powerful effect of nature wasn't a joy in the hardships of those effected. I guess these people so upset don't understand that there are complexities to everything, including nature and human emotions. And the gall to accuse you of using it for views!! Absolutely absurd. Y'all keep at it, show us what you find interesting, and don't let these people who misunderstand your intent change your amazement with life. Keep positive and live each day! :D

An EF-2 tornado wind speeds are 111-135 mph. That's equivelant to a Category 3/4 hurricane.
The EF scale is as follows:
    EF-0: 65-85mph
    EF-1: 85-110
    EF-2: 111-135
    EF-3: 136-165
    EF-4: 166-200
    EF-5: 200+

One of my employees here in Nebraska house got taking out by a tornado a few months ago. She had this big beautiful home that was gone within minutes. She showed up to work the very next day as calm as can be with the " Well what can you do about it sitting in a hotel room " attitude. , me I would of been crying tears in a pillow. Its always so difficult to understand how a roll of houses can get whipped out, yet the one next door is standing tall without a scratch.

I totally understand Corey´s excitement. As someone who studies medicine and learn a lot about what goes wrong with the human body I can easily say that heart attacks, kidney failure or even cancer is cool. I do not wish them on anyone but is surely amazed by the information I´m learning and will use it to, in the future, prevent and cure. What I see in this video is a man amazed by nature, learning about it´s powers and using the information to help keep his family safe in the future. I think it´s a little silly how people get offended by this video, I enjoyed it and know that he does not mean to hurt anyone. Keep up the good work!

Linnèa Hallgren Watched my Dad die of Cancer from the day I was born until I was six. I wouldn't say it was "cool." It was awful. To watch someone wither into a shell of their former selves. Especially when it's your Dad. The man that is supposed to be your strong, stable superhero to a little girl. To watch them slowly lose their mind and forget who you are. Never recognise you, but recognise your brother and your mum. It's the worst thing I've ever been through and I wish it on no one. Now all that being said, I do understand what you mean. The way cancer works biologically is fascinating. How such a thing can be so destructive to the human body and mind and in some cases, so quickly IS fascinating. But I wouldn't say "cool".

I grew up in Illinois and it was watch out time all summer for tornadoes. One of our children and I were out in the yard when he was 5 years old and a tornado came over quite far up in the air. I showed it to him and told him what it was and he never forgot what it looked like even as an adult. It's something you won't ever forget even if you're not close to one when it comes over. If you ever hear one coming over, it sounds like a freight train in the air coming at you. And you pray to God that it stays UP in the air because it could decide to dip down at any time. The reason the windows had the damage they did is because the air pressure sucks the glass out of the building. You've seen only a bit of what a tornado can do. One can totally demolish an entire mobile home park in only seconds. Or take out one house and leave all the others. The safest safe place is underground. If you have to take shelter in your home, you can hold a mattress over you in an empty bath tub. Or go to an inside room where there are no windows so you have walls to protect you on all sides. Believe me, they're NOT something to mess with. When you've been told to seek shelter, DO IT!! It's not funny no matter if it's ONLY an F2. Deaths can still occur even at that level. F5's will more than likely cause several deaths. Stay safe you guys.

  • @BrendaD72
    @BrendaD72 7 років тому

Around the time you guys were in Nebraska, two F2 tornadoes hit just south of where you stayed in Omaha/Bellevue. Entire farms ripped apart, but the houses next door were fine. We still see lots of reminders of it and it's been six weeks.

I grew up in Moore OK and still live there when not in Stillwater for college. I've seen my hometown torn apart multiple times by tornadoes but I still love tornadoes. I find them cool and fascinating. I also stand outside and watch them until they get closer then I take shelter.
Debris is what causes damage to some buildings. There's a picture from the May 20th, 2013 Moore tornado where a board went through a curb. There was other items I saw in person that looked like they were placed there with care but were thrown from several houses away.

  • @balletangel1

I don't understand why it's such a big deal to call tornado damage awesome. I'm going to school to be a Meteorologist, and severe weather is my passion. There are many things that are amazing, but can be seen as negative and sad to others. This is nature at its finest and it is truly amazing to see just how much it can affect our lives. It is of course not cool to those who are affected by it, but if it weren't for the people who are amazed by it and are researching to better warning systems and safety precautions, then many more people could've gotten hurt or worse.
As for if a house or shop is safer. Many if not most houses in Oklahoma are built to withstand a good amount of wind. As for stores, many lost their ceilings due to having large windows on the front/side of the building. Wind can easily damage windows and if the wind can blow into the store it will uplift the ceiling.
