It's safety standards well safety standards go up a lot of car companies can't make the same car at the same price with these new features that are needed
Id get a TTRS. You can find a low mileage mk3 one for around 55k and with just a few bolt ons and a tune can be shooting for around 550hp. With this you get a great awd system from audi, a 7 speed transmission and a inline 5. You could also go with a rs3 if you wanted 4 doors, but to me the TTRS us just a beautiful car.
Chris from VinWiki knows what’s up, just picked up a 2011 CTS V sedan with Recaros 87K miles for 26K from a stealership. Not nearly 75K but holy hell that Supercharged LSA is fun!
After watching this video one year after I think Ed should do a recap on what these people would choose in today's market for 75k and what their original car pick now costs
Best car bang for the buck for 70-95k brand new is a 760hp 2020gt500. 70k version Faster in the 1/4 in the 10s and half mile than a 95k trim top handling pack c8. And that’s faster than most cars people said. And handling. Plus a carbon track pack can tie a Porsche gt3rs around a track. The DCT is compared to a Porsche Pdk in shifts and quality. Tune smaller supercharger pulley exhaust you get 950rwhp and run 9s in the 1/4 mile and then beat gt3rs around a track
personally I would go for a GT350R or GT500 with the leftover money used for personal preference upgrades. If i could get a Charger/Challenger with similar performance and price points, i'd pick the one that's more comfortable to ride in. (I'm 6'8.)
I want to salute the guy who chose the Jaguar XK-120. When I was twelve and living in Detroit my best friend and I negotiated with a guy to buy his basket case XK-120. It was in pretty sorry shape for two twelve year olds to be able to afford it. Our goal was to fix it up and sell it for a profit. Neither of had any automotive experience but how hard could it really be? Our dad's had a different idea and we were never able to consummate the deal. That was over fifty years ago. Prices have risen greatly but the desire is still there and I really want one.
$75k in Australia would get you into a very nice HSV Gen-F Maloo or GTS. Thats if you're after Supercharged V8 power. Otherwise for those who want a Turbo 6, the FG FPV F6 would be a good choice.
Lotus Evora 400 with a manual transmission. With a Toyota V6 that’s the same as a Highlander and Camry with an added supercharger, and a 6 speed manual, you have a car that drives reliably, is cheap to maintain, and looks like a Lamborghini. The 0-60 of 4.1 seconds makes it preform like one too.
FWIW I rambled on so got cut off, but since you can get a nice 997.1 Turbo (even a 2009) for under 75k, I'd use the extra to do the exhaust, tune, DSC Sport suspension controller, and replace the clutch slave with a non-assisted one from the GT2. If I've still got some left over, intercoolers would be next!
I'm glad that the Pantera got a little more live in this episode. I have heard it mentioned in one other episode, but to get a couple of car people show it some love just made me smile!
Here in Oz, $75k converts to about $100k in the local money and that gets you into a rather nice HSV Maloo (its a pickup truck that can go toe-to-toe with a bunch of really fast sports cars around a track). Or you could probably find a decent used Tesla and go all electric (and its even possible to drive a Tesla across the Nullabor and find enough charging points to get you there)
