Getting back in the groove…sorta. Day 1 Highwood Montana wheat harvest

- Highwood, Montana
The morning began with a sense of concern.
I climbed into a whole different animal. One that was about as unfamiliar to me - very much like any new job.
Different controls, screens, noises, feels, etc.
One familiar and very welcome sameness - the beauty of a wheat field. And the smell of wheat chaff.
Nothing better.
Although the look and feel is definitely not The Beast, I was feeling way more comfortable with all the newness.
Jim had one up on me - he’s run JD combines.
Hope tomorrow goes well!

No coffee needed for Jim. The excitement of going to the field is all over his face. Good to see that BIG grin.
😊
I think I like it because of the logistics of it all.👍
Oh wow!!!!!!!! What a video, thank-you so much! Thank you to you and Jim and a big thanks to the people you’re working for, to allow you to film so that the rest of us can see a giant farming operation like that-unbelievable!!!!! You guys did an awesome job! Thanks again
Also Tracy, we appreciate your filming, we like seeing the countryside as farmers, we like seeing the same details that you notice. Even things like the panoramic shot you did to show us the lay of the land, we see things there the majority of people have no clue about, thanks.
Equipment different , yes but two special people brought in to help the harvest, a learning event , stay safe , enjoy !! Memories !!!!
My family grew up custom harvesting! I did it 24 years. Small grain and row crop. Love your videos! Thanx
It’s hard to just let go of!!
It’s a good DAY when Jim is smiling 😀
YES!!!!
This is the Farm I grew up on. Much different in the 60s and 70s.
Bahnmillers farm all the ground my great grandparents (both sides of my dad's family) homesteaded in 1909. Great video.
❤️❤️
so good to see you back in the combine, thanks for including us!!!!!
Tracy, this is an utterly amazing video. All the machine footage you got is fantastic. I love your videos, glad to see Jim and you harvesting again. Looking forward to the next video.
I didn't know they could grow wheat that good in Montana
that is one MASSIVE operation if it takes four 40-foot headers a month to harvest the wheat!!
Afternoon Tracy you do have the best view
A great awesome video, Tracy , I think that was biggest grin I saw on Jim's face in the opening clip, what a awesome show of four combines and supporting equipment. Be safe you all int the field.😀👍👍
I am happy to see Jim back in the seat of a combine. And I see he is liking it.
AS ALWAYS SUPER VIDEOS WE THANK YOU
Thanks so much!
The smile on Jim's face driving the gren side-by-side was what i believe they call "priceless"!
So glad to see your " back in the saddle " and doing what you have done for so many years . Now you don't have any stess or worries . !00 bu. wheat is outstanding !!!! As always the sunsets are great !!! Thank you for sharing your lives .
Brett is looking good.
Holy smokes thats making some bushels and not a tree in sight. Those are some huge fields.
It’s beautiful!
Your a seasoned operator young lady you'll do just fine.
" AMER1CA "
So glad to see you and Jim back in the seat agin
Glad to see yall are carrying on the family tradition
Good to see you and Jim back in the saddle. The paint may be different but you will get the hang of it.
Dennis the movie star, LOL!
Outstanding in every respect!! Sure wish I could be there in person to observe this amazing operation.
120-130 bu 😯 the JD’s are getting a good workout.
Good to see you back in the cab!
😉😊❤️
The Missouri Breaks has been on my bucket list since I first saw videos from the Along the Edge series. Beautiful country!
Yahoooooo.......glad to see you guys back in the drivers seat!
Thank you for sharing your journey and the beautiful country with us.
Thankyou for including us in all of this, so interesting to me as an Aussie farmer myself. I would love to to go and work in a crew like this, such a well organised outfit. And those crops, unbelievable!!!
Jim made the comment about the twin rotors being an advantage, I think he’s right, that’s a massive amount of material for one rotor.
Anyway thanks again for sharing this with us, I have a big appreciation for such a well run farming outfit, best wishes to you all.
That’s what retirement looks like 😊😊
These videos should be shown in every school in America, especially in the big cities!
(I agree)
This video was over way to soon, wish I could be riding in the buddy seat beside you and Jim.
Looks like you caught the Green fever Tracy..glad you and Jim are in the saddle..
Very nice looking wheat. Didn't look as good down across Kansas driving through on family vacation.
Tracey , great to see you and Jim in the command seats , what a wonderful family you’re working with. Long day right out of the chute ! Best wishes
Great job running the combines Jim and Tracy
👍🏻❤️
Hello zeorian, good videos 🌾👨🌾👍🇮🇹
Nice to see you guys back you can't keep a good team down
Keep good harvesters .👏👏👏👍Thank you. (N.G)
What a operation , so professional , team work , making it happen, stay safe ! Enjoy !!
It looks good a fit for you'll and first class outfit
Thank you so much for the update and great seeing you in the combine again
Hello, I hope you both have lots of fun on your new adventure and job. Hard to keep good harvesters down!
I'm happy for you two!
Glad to see u 2 at it again... ik it's a big change getting in the green machines, but ull get used to them
In the 70s, I was on a crew that ran two L Gleaners with 22' headers. We thought we were really doing something if we ran over 200 acres in a day. I can't imagine how many acres those 4 monsters can cut in a day - AND with it making over 100 bu - how many bushels. Plus I'm sure the semis have to really work to keep up. Glad you guys have found this to do and to share with us!
Looks like a fantastic operation! Really enjoying the video.
wow great yields
Glad you got another chance to combine Tracy! You obviously love it!
Great video. Brings back memories from my days as a custom cutter.
It is so good that JIm & Tracy are back at harvesting Love you guys, Yup, still Hot and muggy here in Plattsmouth, LOL
Bet it felt great to be back in the swing of cutting wheat. Green machines are fine, just take some getting used to.
I am very pleased at Brett reaching out to you, offering membership on this great Team. (9:30 minute mark)
Us too!!
That is some nice wheat. This will be the first year ever for us to not have any wheat to combine. We decided not to have wheat this year so I will have to make do by watching other farmers combining it.
Very very happy for you guys that you are on the move again, 2 happy faces.
At this moment you have the pleasure of combining as a hobby, but not the pressure of your own machine.
This family have there farm under control, these yield numbers are impressive for Montana I think, with no irrigation I assume...
What kind of acres they are growing in total if I am free to ask? And is it alone wheat or also other crops?
Lots of fun and enjoy the (green) ride...
Really fun to see you both back at harvest....a familiar, but different, experience! How many acres at this operation?? Looks like a ‘class’ operation.
Wow you guys are in the thick of it right off the bat such a large outfit looks like they have it going on have fun and enjoy the ride thanks for taking us along
That Reagan is a cute one for sure
Great video Jim and Tracy
Thank you!
Fantastic yields, must have had some good rains this year.
I believe it’s a lot drier further north.
Love your videos, I found it amazing after retiring how many job offers came along. This is my 3rd season driving harvest truck for my neighbor. Keep up the great videos.❤
Thanks for a gr8 video.
Welcome back..
Great footage, beautiful countryside and some good yields.....looking forward to viewing more
Hey I think it would be enjoyable to combine high yielding wheat like that
It’s great when the technology works!
I know by the end of the first day of combining my head hurts from trying to remember how to get it to work. Keep the videos coming
Big Sky Country, the view is just something else. You guys look like your well fed, great food I'm sure. Nice wheat and even better farmkids.
Even though your driving on yellow rims, I'm sure your very much enjoying it in so many other was that that flaw has been compensated for :)
mention BUSHEL COUNTS more often IT MAKES ME SMILE
did not expect to see you in a combine again - great!
Well it’s another day. I’m sure you are glad to be back in the groove. You will be up to par in a day or two. Jim looks good in that Green machine. Now it doesn’t make any difference to what color of machine you are running. Just that you are back at it now. Looking forward to the next chapter in your new journey. CYA
What an operation better u than me keepp the videos coming😊
They have some good yielding clean wheat there. I am impressed to say the least. See you all next time Joy to see the children there too. John T
Wheat yields have really increased since the last time I ran a combine (1986)
Great video and harvesting
Wow 1st time driving John deer combine awesome video
Sweet…missed you guys heading out for the season…stay safe, have fun 😊
You two sure look good in those green machines! 😉 Wow, 100 bu. wheat. I guess you wouldn't normally expect to see many mosquitoes there but with yields like that it's had to be real wet.
Very nice wheat!!!
great video!
I love Montana !!!!
great video
Absolutely fascinating; we loved watching this!!
❤️
Great to see you both doing the job you enjoy most, from England
Thanks 👍
Tracyyyy..You and Jim on Green combines? Looking good. It looked like some of the fields in Western Kentucky, 3- X9s, 4 -790s running in 1 field. Enjoyed seeing both of you back at it.
Wow, that's a wonderful yield, I don't think I could learn how to run a modern combine. 😢 .
Ha ha ha look at the grin old on arse's face there !! just hop in an off i go , don,t you realise how hard you both struggled ? what a farm , good crops , nothing more honest than LAND ! keep goin love to both of yer x
Thanks so much, Dave!
That is some awesome looking wheat 🌾
It is beautiful!
You guys look good in green!!! What great looking wheat. I was wondering what the yield was and then saw it was around 100 bu/ac
Woo Hoo your back I was wandering if you guys was coming back this year it will be easier this year your in a green combine lol 😂😂 one day at a time 😊😊❤❤😊😊
I really liked our New Holland combine. It’s easier because we don’t have the stress of finding enough acres to make payments and cover expenses.
So good to see you guys out in the field again. Would love to do an American harvest one day but getting older now. Had a few friends from the U.K. here that have done it and loved it. Maybe one day. All the best from the U.K. 👍
You should!!!
👍👍all I can say is awesome video and awesome wheat it would be a joy to harvest wheat like that just what I needed after the harvest we had thanks for the wheat fix😂
Jhan, you would definitely have to have help if you had a crop like this one! 😉
Beautiful wheat! I'm catching up after being close to you in Yellowstone this past week.
Hope you had a great time!
Wheat looks great. They must had a lot of moisture!! Spring wheat?
I was just up in MT for the whole month of June. Just South over the mountains of Lewistown helping my cousin build a barn. Should be back up there in the last part of September helping with his new house. The wheat here in North Central Colorado is still about a week or two out.
Very close to where we are.
Its great to see you both back in the combines, and Jim looks a lot happier so I'm guessing it's a bit let stressful.
How is Jim getting on with the motor cycle?
Looks like you could get out and walk on top of that wheat. What a crop. Great to see you back at it. Nice for Jim to just climb out and go home. Is that yield normal for that part of country?
is that a custom cutting crew or one farmer that is a lot of acres look like did i here jim say they were short on power working hard i bet its a big reliefe not to have to worry about you,re own stuff now
Beautiful View How many hours did you spend in a Day in the Field?
Great looking crops, and Jim's looking very happy, best of luck with your season
Thanks so much!
Hey Jim!
There’s mosquitoes.
😉
