So we are blaming a rusting wreck instead of the stupidity of the entire venture.

The Titanic has not claimed more lives. She's just sitting on the sea bed, quietly rotting. The idiocy of the company running these tourist trips has claimed the lives of their 'more money than sense' customers.

Quite right. And to emphasize the point I am writing this comment whilst lying in a box filled with cotton wool under my bed, where I prefer to spend most of my life. I am convinced that this cautious approach will pay off in terms of my life span. Occasionally I fantasize about Motorcycle trips, red run skiing, mountain climbing, etc. Then I remember the savings to be made by doing absolutely nothing. Stay Home, Protect Lives, and Save the HMRC.

The Titanic has five more lives ... after 121 years its time to leave the Titanic and her dead alone. May the dead rest in peace. 🙏

No the sub has 5 dead within. No exploration only tourist gawping of a sunk ship.

Hyperbole, Titanic didn't claim anything. Structural failure and implosion 105 minutes into the descent is what did for the occupants of the submersible.

All those souls who lost there lives 💔 when the Titanic sank, those including Men, Women, children and babies all in the dark, on a large (unsinkable) sinking vessel, without a chance of saving themselves....RIP to all those now at the Titanic site 🙏All those souls who died on the Titanic, had no idea this was ever possible (it would sink) nor had a chance to save themselves! 💔 it breaks my heart. To use this site as a sightseeing tour is bizarre in itself! All dives to this sight should only be for knowledgeable purposes and to help understand what may have gone wrong and to preserve its recognition for those lives lost that fateful night! Lives Matter!!! Money can not replace life!! 😢😢🙏 James Cameron respected the seas, respected the sight and respected the reason he was there to begin with, for this he is alive to explain what he is doing. My thoughts are with ALL the families who have now lost loved ones regarding the Titanic 🙏⚓️

What an absolutely disgraceful, bitter statement, in my opinion - to even mention their wealth when these men have lost their lives is not only churlish but cruel. They leave behind loved ones for whom wealth will be utterly irrelevant.
Sad that so many people these days are obsessed with material wealth and not on what is really important.

121 years later, the titanic took 5 lives again, this insignificance is very strange in the 21st century

Having done some actual background on this, the disaster was inevitable, as Lewis Schaffer touches in, wokish partly caused this disaster, as well as a total disregard to multiple safety warnings, and was 100% avoidable.
CEO of OceanGate in an interview did say he didn't want "50 year old white men" involved, and hired young people because "it would be inspiring"! What? Inspire how to sign your own death away, because when you start digging into OceanGate and their practices that's what these people did! One of the female support ship crew, some young Tiktoker, was hired less than a month ago, this clown Rush didn't care about experience or safety, and was on some "I support the current thing" ideology journey, probably to look cool.
OcenGate were repeatedly warned that Titan had several serious safety flaws, including cracking of the hull during pressure cycles. Turns out also in 2018 CEO Stockton Rush sacked whistleblower David Lochridge who was a 50 year old and white and at the time OceanGate's director of marine operations, with decades of experience, after Lochridge raised concerns about its first-of-a-kind carbon fibre hull and other systems.
OceanGate sued Lochridge for allegedly breaching his confidentiality contract and making fraudulent statements. Lochridge countersued, stating that he had been wrongfully terminated as a whistleblower for bringing up concerns about the Titan's ability to operate safely. They settled a few months later.
In the court fillings Lochridge stated that he urged the submarine be assessed and certified by an agency, legally not required due to operating in international waters, but OceanGate had declined to do so, citing an unwillingness to pay. He also said that the transparent viewport on its forward end was only certified to reach a depth of 1,300 m (4,300 ft), only a third of the depth required to reach the Titanic. Lochridge was also concerned that OceanGate wouldn't perform non-destructive testing on the vessel's hull before undertaking manned dives, and alleged that he was "repeatedly told that no scan of the hull or Bond Line could be done to check for delaminations, porosity and voids of sufficient adhesion of the glue being used due to the thickness of the hull".
OceanGate decided to use acoustic sensors to listen for the tell-tale sounds of carbon fibres in the hull deteriorating to provide “early warning detection for the pilot with enough time to arrest the descent and safely return to surface.” In reality, and Lochridge noted this too, acoustic sensors would only give milliseconds of warning.
Later in 2018, the Marine Technology Society wrote a letter to Rush expressing "unanimous concern regarding the development of 'TITAN' and the planned Titanic Expedition", indicating that the "current experimental approach [...] could result in negative outcomes (from minor to catastrophic) that would have serious consequences for everyone in the industry".
Reporter David Pogue, who went down in Titan in 2022 as part of a CBS News feature stated that all passengers who enter the Titan sign a waiver confirming their knowledge that it is an "experimental" vessel "that has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body, and could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma or death." TV producer Mike Reiss, who also had been in Titan, said the waiver "mention[s] death three times on page one."
Previous incidents involve being lost navigationally, lost communications to the support ship, one of the thrusters was installed backwards resulting in the submersible just spinning on the ocean floor, battery issues, and due to no lifting mounts when lifted due to no power, external components were damaged, in 2020 Titan had it's depth rating reduced to 3,000 metres due to hull fatigue, and had to be repaired or rebuilt (it's unclear which).
OceanGate and Stockton Rush knew Titan was a death trap waiting to happen. I hope the families of those lost sue OceanGate and Rush personally into obliteration, people need to be made accountable when this disaster should never have happened.

Not hiring the best man for the job, kiled him, and four innocent passengers.
Preferring young inexperienced blondes over 50 year old white men.
Apologies 13 would still be in space if they hired like this guy!

I never met a billionaire who didn’t make all that money without exploiting thousands of normal people. Whether it be low wages, bad working conditions or not paying all the taxes they are meant to. You’re right. Imagine how much side these 4 could have sent to help displaced war victims in Ukraine with $1 million. Vanity costs.

Why are they acting like the titanic claimed these lives, it’s a damn ship. The reason they died wasn’t out of arrogance or a dad wanting his son to come with him against his wishes, it was an extremely unlikely and unlucky event that happens all the time. This stuff is natural and as we continue to push our boundaries we are still going to get pushed back. Do not blame anyone, do not be angry for anyone.
