Thank you, I now feel confident in Buying baja s4 suit for my husbands bday present. Im wiĺling to pay $$$$ for his comfort so he will wear protection. I appreciate this video and what you put into it. Ty
I have been wearing the S4 for the past 19 months. I agree with your assessment. Since I rid3 more road than trail, I upgraded the protection to CE2. I wear the S4 year round using merino wool base layers and a goretex rain jacket as a wind break in the cooler months. Price is outrageous but it outperforms every other jacket/pants combo I have owned.
So I was able to upgrade my Baja pants to ce l2 but was only able to find the shoulder and elbows by sas tec in l2. Where were you able to find the l2 in d30?
Thoughts/Experience on using mesh jackets for 4 seasons - I have a Rev'it Airwave (great, but fits short; I'm tall) and did the NEBDR with it in October. Temps ranged from 55 to around 36F. On the cold mornings when it wasn't raining, I layered with a wool baselayer, lightweight insulator, lightweight 3L Gore rain jacket, then the Airwave. It worked extremely well. I could have added a heaver layer if I was cold. I didn't feel any wind get through. On rainy days, I threw a 3L Gore rain jacket over the same setup and stayed dry. The only downside with this setup are the extra layers you need to bring, vs. a waterproof suit, BUT, this is much more versatile. Thanks for the info, Ian, I will upgrade to the Baja S4.
Thanks Ian I owe u. This suit-is wonderful. Its very very comfortable. It was 101 the other day and I donned it over my cargo shorts and t totalling 3hr ride with delays at traffic signals. It provided shade and surprizingly cool, venting air around torso and legs your reviews are all top notch.
I bought a Baja S4 this last Spring and love love love it. I live in the high desert of Central Oregon. Most of my riding is in 80° plus temps. I have decided to get rid of most of my other “multi-season” jackets and layer the S4. I always keep a rain shell and a puffy jacket on the bike. This allows me comfort from about 45° to about 95°. If I’m going to spend some time at highway speeds in temps below 45° I’ll put my Heated jacket on. If one layers, this can be truly a 3 season jacket. And I don’t ride during the 4th season, at least in Oregon.
@@elionh4532 I just use an inexpensive Alpinestar? shell. I'd have to pull it out and look at the brand. I think I paid about $70 for it. Sometimes I'll throw it on as a wind breaker when it's dry but a little cool. My only issue is that it doesn't have a hood, which would come in handy for off-bike use when it's rainy.
Hi Ian, just bought the entire kit through your affiliate link at Revzilla because of your recommendation. I hope Klim and Revzilla are paying attention to this sort of thing. When you say something is good people listen. Ive been riding moto and street almost my whole life and value what you say very much. Thank you so much for the detailed reviews!!
Seems the S4 hits the sweet spot for most commenters! SoCal rider, and I wear my S4 year round. Rode a 2000 mile loop of California back in June...temps from 105 in the Sierra foothills, to low 50s fog on the coast. Just changed base layers and put a rain shell on the colder/wetter bits. I have to say though, I think it flows air TOO well...when I ride desert/high temps, I wear either a cooling vest or a wet sweatshirt. With the airflow of the S4, they dry out really fast and have to re-wet them more often. My previous kit was a Scorpion Yosemite, and I like that I could adjust the venting, but that ensemble is nowhere near as well built as the Baja.
Ian, you will be happy to know that Klim has taken your suggestions and used some of them them. I Just bought the Baja S4 Set Newest version includes a D30 (uncertain of CE Level) back protector and the fit has been refined. No chest protector pockets but i am sure that will happen in time.
I have the Baja S4 jacket/pants. They are awesome for summer use. Few jackets offer this level of protection with airflow. In the cooler months I use the Carlsbad jacket/pants. In my opinion, the Carlsbad set-up is the way to go unless you are riding in temperatures above 85f. In Texas, i simply need two sets of gear, but if your climate stays below 85f, get the Carlsbad, it vents remarkably well for a gortex set.
Totally agree with you. On my longterm trip I’m riding with the Carlsbad pants in all weather conditions combined with an Adventure Spec mesh jacket and S4 rain jacket. My perfect around the world suit! 👍
Bought S4 kit this summer and used it on a 3k Moto trip out west in August. It did not disappoint! Very comfortable in warm weather with excellent venting. Actually was a little cool in the mornings. I layered inside and carried light weight rain gear too. So much more comfortable than my badlands gear Only complaint is the L1 armor. Will upgrade at some point. 5'10 200lb L jacket and 34 pant.

I disagree, have you tested the Held Corese evo suit it has a more tailored fit as well as being extremely versatile for the people that can afford only one suit. The held is also considerably cheaper in Australia where I am located. Keep up the excellent work I appreciate your work and honesty.
I checked the gear out after seeing your comment. It looks like a good jacket and pants if you could only buy one. I agree with that take. I do love the multitude of sizes.
I recently bought the S4 jacket and pants. I removed the included armor and wear the ForceField EX-K upper body protections system. Good piece of kit when I’m riding primary off road.
This KLIM Baja vented suit looks to be perfect for our California summers, though at a dear cost to the budget. I like my Aerostitch "Cousin Jeremy" two-piece suit for general non-hot weather riding, but I really need a solution like this for our frequent (dare I say regular) 90 to 100 F summertime riding in California. Thanks for a total-exposure, detailed review!!
I tried Badlands and Carlsbad (they were just too heavy for what I wanted and needed) before deciding on a Latitude set which I have been using since Oct last year and has been perfect for me down to 40 degrees or so with no discomfort... just a sweatshirt under the jacket and a pair of Under Armor 3.0 under the pants, and that was more for skin on pant comfort than extra warmth. Now the warm weather is approaching (also in So Cal), and think I will be getting a Baja S4 set. I have also seen the recent reviews on the Marrakesh, but think I like the look and the protection of the S4 better. Will have to make the trek to my (not so) local Revzilla to try them out. The only bummer about these warmer weather suits is that I will be wearing an airbag vest, so some of the benefit will be defeated from the get go... still better than a vest with goretex in 100+ degree heat I suppose.
Great review, as always. The detail in all of your content is first rate. This is my go to gear for the year around. I am in the PNW I ride very comfortable down to 40* F. Trick is the KLIM wind jammer shirt/jacket deal, and good outer rain system, along with any number of layers. This system is so adjustable that you can go from 38* F (coldest so far) to 100F and dial it in. I do ride a heater, a KTM1090 AR. If you want to save some bucks, buy this expensive gear, and rock it all year.
This with the companion Enduro S4 is my go-to for 40 Fahrenheit and up. It’s not as fast to put on as an Aerostich, but better (for me) than any other option.
I absolutely enjoy your reviews ,from SA ,I dont have a bike now ,a pensioner cant afford my dream bike 790 ktm r ,but absolutely enjoy your honest review ,keep it up
I'm a Pensioner in Argentina. Get a Himalayan! I was on an Indian Vintage for the last 10 years, and believe me, the smiles per mile is amazing on the little adventure bike!
I own this jacket. This is a great jacket. Easy on and off, not too heavy. It's the most expensive piece or riding gear I have ever purchased. I also bought the waterproof over jacket. I wound not recommend it. It's way too expensive IMO. Just buy a cheap rain shell and use it. IMO, this is not an all season jacket, even with add-ons. Wearing the over jacket takes some of the versatility away form it. It made it hard to get my gloves off and on, you lose easy access to the pockets, especially the sleeve pocket where I like to carry my credit card for gas stops. I'll probably add a Carlsbad as my cool weather jacket.
Love your extremely comprehensive and no bullshit review on gear. I would be wondering how you would rate the new Alpinestars Halo gear, as the jacket especially looks to be a real transformer for all situations and weather.....
Have you heard of and any plans to review the Knox Seasonless collection? As new rider I'm trying to do as much research as possible on them, but I'm seriously looking at their gear and especially their Honister Men's Jacket which is AAA rated and has Level 2 armor.
Bought the Klim Baja Gloves. Biggest crap of all times. Seam comes loose after one single ride. Now i bought some gloves from Held. This brand is just the best for gloves.
@Big Rock Moto , On an Around the world motorcycle trip .., Q: would you take the Baja S4 with Baja Pants on the RTW trip , or would you take the Badlands suit instead ? PS I already have a (big & heavy ) Badlands riding suit .., therefore, from experience, I know all the pros and cons associated with the badlands .., but .., you have both, and your video is focused on shorter rides , not long RTW trips, so I'm wondering if you have a different opinion on the Baja suit , whether you'd still take it if going RTW ?
I see a lack of mesh at the armpit, for me and many people is a critical part of heat and sweat. Vented cordura gear is the way to go at the adventure motorcycle world but there is still a lot room to improve. Good review.
FYI, areas that aren’t mesh (including armpit) is made of “karbonite” 4-way stretch material. Air flows through this material slightly less than the mesh area, but it still flows a lot of air.
Would this setup be good in NC high heat and humidity environment. We are usually in the 90-95F degree range with almost always 60% and above and a lot of 80% humidity days. Mostly road riding with some dirt fire roads or gravel roads mixed in.
I love the Baja S4. I agree with the Armor upgrade, however, I am sure they are trying to keep the cost down. The Badlands is crazy expensive. The Baja is not cheap but is more affordable. Keep up the great work and ride safe.
How does it compare to BMW Rallye Suit? I am unhappy as i will have to compromise with their Level 1 armours, is that safe for high speed highway riding?
Question, with the Baja S4, say I have an XL. and I wanted the Enduro S4 rain/weatherproofness to go over the top of it, do you get an XL Enduro? or size up?
Thank you for your review of the Klim Baja S4, Ian. Where I live it has become increasingly hot over the last few years, with multiple weeks of 100F+ weather, and my Klim Carlsbad jacket is too warm in those conditions. As a result, I have been thinking about what to buy for my Summer 2023 riding season, and it seems that the Klim Baja S4 would make for a good option. All the best, Jeff
I have both the Carlsbad jacket/pants, and the Baja S4 jacket/pants. I wear the Carlsbad up to 80f-85f, anything over that I wear the Baja S4. It vents incredibly well, and I wore it on multiple 100f+ days this summer. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you for this review! We seem to be similar size/build-wise, but I'd be removing the inbuilt armour and wear it over an MX armour including a chest plate. This one on you looks very well fitted, not much space under it for separate armour and/or a warm layer? So in my case, would you say it might be prudent to go for XL size?
I purchased the Baja s4 jacket and pants and they work really well here in Montana, I wear a klim inversion jacket under the Baja s4 jacket for cooler weather. What rain gear do you use over the Baja s4? Is the klim enduro s4 jacket and pants worth the $700 for rain gear and a wind blocker for cooler weather?
I appreciate your recent gear reviews. Regarding fit, how does the Baja S4 compare with the Carlsbad? I ask because I have the Carlsbad. If the Baja S4 fits the same, then I know what to get for next summer. The Carlsbad is hotter than I really want in summer, even in our relatively mild climate. If the fit is different, then I guess and hope to not have to return items. Thanks.
Hey Ian, What did you think of the inseam length? Klim seems a little long in the legs compared to other brands on me. Considering the short pants but not sure if they might be too short.
Have a few Klim pieces of gear and they're comfortable, quality is better than some other brands I've tried but I also with the Alpinestars Andes V3 jacket as they have great adjustability and comfortable and MUCH cheaper! It's a market they have and sometimes they half-a$$ the design while still paying a premium. I'm not a fan of their glove fitment as well, just have to try other brands and find the one that fits the bill, I think Klim would touch more riders if they were slightly more affordable not saying Bilt brand affordable 😆
@@2wheels1guy25 no I haven't, the only complaint I have either jacket is the annoying collar loop that's "supposed" to hook on the left shoulder hook but it's too loose and it's always flopping around and can Velcro back on the neck collar, just need a better design for that.
I am the same size as you, 5'10" 200lbs. I got the large jacket and it fit perfect. I got the pants, but the knee armor was too low, below my knees at my shins. idk why but I returned it. Bought revit eclipse pants.... same issue. Knee armor was at my shins. Am I a weird size?????
this is normal. Make sure you are'nt "Sagging", motorcycle over pants are meant to ride an inch higher than your standard jean. The knees ride low when standing and walking around. But when you sit on the bike with some bend in the knee, youll see that they are in the right spot. They ride up just like pant legs do when you get on the bike.
Where does the Klim Marrakech jacket and pants for into their lineup? I’m in the south central US where much of my riding is 90+F and 90% humidity. Would the Marrakech offer more ventilation than the Baja S4?
I have both S4 suit and Marakesh jacket. The fit and tailoring on the Marakesh is more stylish, but does not offer the level of abrasion resistance the S4 does. That said, it flows air well very well.
Where did R1250 GSA come from? I thought you ditched the Beemer for the Africa Twin? Inquiring minds want to know! Next point, what Klim suite would you chose for and allround street touring bike (no dirt involved) say, for and RT or K1600 GT?

what about the weather in malaysia? average temp in KL ard 35 to 40 c sometime, and humidity hight, it's too easy to get heat fatigue or heat stress attack pretty dangerous for rider before accident.
I wear this gear in Texas in the summer, where it regularly tops 100f (37.7c) with high humidity. It works well, especially for the level of protection you get.
Ride in the cool of the day. Don't ride in the city when it's 35-40. Use a cooling vest, and choose a route that includes as few stoplights as possible. Put some ice cubes between you and your gear, especially where major arteries lie.
Hi Ian, Great review👍 I'm from India and planning to buy Klim Dakar jacket and Klim Dakar pants for touring within country on a KTM 390 adventure...i would much appreciate your views on Klim's Dakar series (jacket as well as pants) Thanks
Too expensive for what it is. As an example, the Revit Levante 2 is equally vented, includes a removable waterproof liner, is AA rated, includes level 2 pads, features pockets for chest armor and costs less than half of what the S4 does.
@@tomekvilmovskiy6547 I'm aware of them not being made in the USA, but it's the design and marketing costs that drive the price difference. I'm sure these cost basically the same to manufacture as gear from Alpinestars, RST or Dainese.
The “reason” is quality and the best warranty in the business (lifetime). Also, if you are ever involved in a crash, they will replace your damaged gear for free. You get what you pay for.

You just wear shorts and a tee underneath ? I'm looking for gear to wear in Az during the summer months.
What else should I look at while also looking at the Baja, 80% asphalt?
Thank you for your review of the Klim Baja S4, Ian. Where I live it has become increasingly hot over the last few years, with multiple weeks of 100F+ weather, and my Klim Carlsbad jacket is too warm in those conditions. As a result, I have been thinking about what to buy for my Summer 2023 riding season, and it seems that the Klim Baja S4 would make for a good option. All the best, Jeff
Check out Motoport. Great gear for warmer climes & custom tailored.
@@mikemerrill175 Thanks for the suggestion, but I really like the collection of Klim riding gear I have, so I'll be sticking with Klim.
Hi. Off topic but could you review a HD Fatboy?
Have you ever ridden in the Alpinestars Halo? How does it compare?
Thank you for this review! We seem to be similar size/build-wise, but I'd be removing the inbuilt armour and wear it over an MX armour including a chest plate.
This one on you looks very well fitted, not much space under it for separate armour and/or a warm layer? So in my case, would you say it might be prudent to go for XL size?
I can layer under mine, but if you're worried yes go up a size
I purchased the Baja s4 jacket and pants and they work really well here in Montana, I wear a klim inversion jacket under the Baja s4 jacket for cooler weather. What rain gear do you use over the Baja s4? Is the klim enduro s4 jacket and pants worth the $700 for rain gear and a wind blocker for cooler weather?
Have you ever considered Motoport's stuff. They're American. Kevlar mesh sounds like a good idea. Made to measure, too.
I have used MP for a year in temps from 116 to 34 & can’t say enough about how early it works. Plus it is custom tailored for my short legs.
@@mikemerrill175 If I was in America, I'd get a suit made up. Too expensive to import to where I live, though.
Is it worth it to upgrade to LP2 pads? Looks to be about $200 to do all the pads for the jacket and the pants.
Besides the BAJA 4s for street touring which is the other option ? Very little off road I will be doing . Thank you for the video’s are awesome!!!
Klim’s Induction uses same materials and similar features but tailored more for touring.
Thanks.
the baja fits pretty similar, maybe a tad smaller.
Hey Ian, What did you think of the inseam length? Klim seems a little long in the legs compared to other brands on me. Considering the short pants but not sure if they might be too short.
I'm always good with the normal length klim pants
Have a few Klim pieces of gear and they're comfortable, quality is better than some other brands I've tried but I also with the Alpinestars Andes V3 jacket as they have great adjustability and comfortable and MUCH cheaper! It's a market they have and sometimes they half-a$$ the design while still paying a premium. I'm not a fan of their glove fitment as well, just have to try other brands and find the one that fits the bill, I think Klim would touch more riders if they were slightly more affordable not saying Bilt brand affordable 😆
Did you test the A⭐️ Halo too?
Toss the kidney belt into the jacket and that’ll cinch you up around the waist and hold the back protector in place
Anyone care to commet on how this suit compares to Klim Marrakesh? Weight, airflow, fit, durability, other thoughts?
Have you tried the Ducati Supersport 950S?
is there a jacket to pants connection zip?
Are the pads removable? Would like to wesr this suit over a ce2 armor elbow pad and knee combo
Yes
@@BigRockMoto thank you for replying so fast! Will use your affiliate link when I order
Where did R1250 GSA come from? I thought you ditched the Beemer for the Africa Twin? Inquiring minds want to know!
Next point, what Klim suite would you chose for and allround street touring bike (no dirt involved) say, for and RT or K1600 GT?
He sold the queen, repurchased the Bimmer
@@slalomking Finally got smart (again)!
Check out Klims Induction ensemble. More stree/touring oriented.
@@orangelion03 Agreed--I have the induction jacket (might go for the pants next summer). For winter, will most likely opt for the Latitude.
I have the attitude and really like it. it's too warm for southern climate in the summer so I am considering the klim mesh alternatives.
Trying to find good gear for -5oC _ 8oC and raining is pain
Rukka!
Hey I just realized how close you live to me I'm about 45 minutes away from you down in the valley saw a sign you drove by let me know if you want to go riding I have a 701 and a 501 I can show you some trails close to my house or we could ride some trails up the mountain your way
what about the weather in malaysia? average temp in KL ard 35 to 40 c sometime, and humidity hight, it's too easy to get heat fatigue or heat stress attack pretty dangerous for rider before accident.
Hi Ian, Great review👍
I'm from India and planning to buy Klim Dakar jacket and Klim Dakar pants for touring within country on a KTM 390 adventure...i would much appreciate your views on Klim's Dakar series (jacket as well as pants)
Thanks
I use them, love them, they are offroad focused so not great for high speed street riding if you were to fall.
You could sew a KlIm label on a Cycle Gear suit and 99% of the “ADV” (lol) riders would never know the difference…
Badlands + Carlsbad + Baja = ~4000$. 😮
If you bought an expensive bike you may as well buy the most expensive gear. Otherwise, there is tourmaster, Olympia, etc.
People in the real world don't 3k to spend on warm weather and cool weather riding gear
Not helpful Gabe.
Too expensive for what it is. As an example, the Revit Levante 2 is equally vented, includes a removable waterproof liner, is AA rated, includes level 2 pads, features pockets for chest armor and costs less than half of what the S4 does.
Expensive stuff 😖😖
The large looks baggy on you.
Rukka and others..
klim = 4 millionaires only
haven't watched the video - no point...
Klim brand is too expensive with no reason
Americans get paid like 2x as much as Europeans for the same job, I think with Klim you're just contributing to that.
@@Geshmaal by the way, all of these are made in China / Vietnam / Taiwan...
Just found a photo of Klim jacket: "Made in Vietnam, Designed in USA"
@@tomekvilmovskiy6547 I'm aware of them not being made in the USA, but it's the design and marketing costs that drive the price difference. I'm sure these cost basically the same to manufacture as gear from Alpinestars, RST or Dainese.
The “reason” is quality and the best warranty in the business (lifetime). Also, if you are ever involved in a crash, they will replace your damaged gear for free.
You get what you pay for.
I mean it's expensive for a reason (some of the most premium materials) but I'm not a fan of their all in one gortex or sizing.
