I love John Sykes...even I have a pair of his disc with his band Blue Murder. But I really think that without David Coverdale and his talent, voice, charisma, gentleman and easyly to choice the musicians, the band Whitesnake couldn't be arrive to our days. Thanks you for sharing. ❤️💫🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✨👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤️
I was there! Still remember this splendid performance in the heat of summer in 84 One of the greatest live of Whitesnake in their greatest time. Wish be there again!
In retrospect, this was a historic band with one of the greatest lineups in hard rock music, in my opinion. I was fortunate enough to witness this very band in Osaka. I am still impressed with how great they were. Thank you for uploading this precious documentation of the wonderful performance!
Crying in the rain solo starts at 35:08 One of the best solo's ever written and performed by the great John Sykes. And the late great Cozy Powel on drums. What more do you want?
It's a pity that they've forgotten to mix John's guitar and voice... I hope there's somewhere online a better audio rendition of this awesome gig...Mr.Sykes deserves it!
Blackmore and purple discovered him and dio! People forget that elf was signed by purple records and they were purple's opening act during the post machine head tours thru the formation of rainbow. Coverdale is amazing. One can only wonder how far MKIII could have gone if Glenn Hughes was not wasted all the time and blackmore didn't jump ship.
Sykes co-wrote much of Whitesnake '87 with Coverdale, but that wasn't until years after this performance. The only studio involvement Sykes and Murray had at this point was re-recording some of the guitar/bass parts on Slide It In for the US release. Cozy Powell was involved in the original UK release of Slide It In.
I seen Neil Murray and the greatest cozy Powell with Peter greens splinter group at the Whitehall theatre 892 capacity.. My grandad constantly filled it singing Scottish songs..
You won't find a better guitarist for WS than John Sykes he had it all - the looks, the sound, the blues, the riffs, the solos. WS lost everything when he sacked the band right after 1987 I believe the tour would've been one of the best concerts of the 80s. Slip of the tongue 1990 Donington was pure garbage.
Down here in Brasil was the problem.Sykes moves on stage took the spotlite from David and you all right man.I watched 1987 show in Worcester in 1988 w Adrian Vandeberg was like a cover of Sykes.Stupid decision made by David ego.
Almost all Whitesnake songs were written for two guitars. This line-up was on because of the stupid accident suffered by Mel Galley - for those who don't know: Sykes slipped and fell on Galley's arm, Mel would never be able to perform properly again.
kick ass concert from one of the best ever rock bands whitesnake. i was more of a fan of their blues rock style. but their 80's stuff is not bad either. i do love this band a lot. david coverdale frontman to 2 classic bad ass rock bands, deep purple and whitesnake. love the guy, cozy powell on drums was a monster drummer for rainbow too. miss him nice guy, richard bailey great on the keyboard but he ain't jon lord, neil murray good base player but he aint glover. john sykes great guiter player. live 1984 in tokyo kick ass.
They were all official members of the band (well, as official as a member can be that isn't named David Coverdale). Sykes and Murray were brought in after Slide It In, and Powell bailed before 1987 was recorded. Sykes & Murray did some overdubs for the US version of Slide It In, so in a sense they are all on an album together.
And Cozy is,..fuck, what can i say, we all have ears.. I love this line up, though that esp. all the guitarists that passed from Whitesnake, were all..fuck, legends!!!
Nicely placed title....over half of Sykes solo's! Can't see what he's doing! Nice vid though, takes me back to when Whitesnake were at their best. Shame Powell never played on the 1987 album and shame that Coverdale sacked everyone once the album was done
This is of course NOT Glenn Hughes. Hughes and Coverdale played together in Deep Purple 1974-1976, but Hughes never played with Coverdale's Whitesnake (apart from some backing vocals on the Slip Of The Tongue Album).
Not entirely true. Cozy had completed the drum tracks for the "1987" album. So they were done and ready to go. Then he had his falling out and left..it was then that he was replaced by Aynsley and he re-recorded all the drum parts. (this is per Cozy's interview in Modern Drummer magazine)
I love Sykes. Viv Campbell. But you gotta wonder what they’d sound like if Moore didn’t exist. When he’s playing the Red Strat I had to think that. It’s so hard not to wanna sound like Gary! RIP Gary. Cozy. His guitar work on 2 tracks on Powells solo where fantastic! Great guitar solo!!
POWELL, MURRAY, SYKES, AIREY AND MR. COVERDALE! THE FUCKIN BEST WHITESNAKE LINE-UP! AGREE WITH THEPANTANALBLUESMAN, COZY WAS THE MAN( RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH 'N' WHITESNAKE)
SAW JOHN SYKES WITH THE TYGERS OF PAN TANG IN 81 IN A SMALL PUB AND HE DID ERUPTION IN THE SOUND CHECK AND ME AND MY MATE THOUGHT IT WAS VAN HALEN....CANT REMEMBER MUCH OF THE GIG AS I WAS PISSED UP WITH NEWCASTLE BROWN ALE...HAAAA!!!!
I have no problem with keyboards in the band. Adds another dimension as far as I'm concerned. Richard Bailey is a very nice man. Sent him a pound cake I made a few years back and he sent me an email of a photo with him and his family eating it. Pretty cool!
the best three drummers in R'n R history: 1. Ian Paice 2. John Bonnam 3. Cozzy Powell unfortunately, two of these guys are dead,.R.I.P,John and Cozzy, the great thundermen, forever in our hearts:(
Whitesnake will always remain my favorite band ever, the one with Marsden-Moody-Lord-Paice-Murray (and of course Coverdale) line-up. But this one reminds me great memories too. Sound and dynamic of this video are a little better than the pictures themselves (and why this "Whitesnake .. Presentation Only" bar all the way through.. ?), but I was wondering: is there any existing DVD/Blu-ray version of this concert available on purchase somewhere? Many thanks for publishing this video anyway!
Nope, it's Richard Bailey. Don never played live with Whitesnake, even though - soundwise - he is featured very prominently on the 1987 album (but not credited as a full band member, only "additional musician").
everything Sykes touched turned to gold, and what a line up with him, Coverdale, and Cozy !!!
I love John Sykes...even I have a pair of his disc with his band Blue Murder. But I really think that without David Coverdale and his talent, voice, charisma, gentleman and easyly to choice the musicians, the band Whitesnake couldn't be arrive to our days. John Sykes rocks...i always like his playing. So talent
yeah..he..was..so..talent..
best concert I EVER saw. murry, Coverdale, Sykes, Powell.......1984 the best!!!!
まさにこのライブの観客の一人でした。
真夏の暑さと熱気でムンムンしてたのを覚えてます。
もう32年まえか・・・
Sykes could be the most "underrated" guitarist of all time.
That is correct! Him and Lincoln Brewster (see Steve Perry's 1994 album "For the Love of Strange Medicine" for Lincoln's amazing playing)
I don’t think he’s underrated as such. Everyone seems to agree he’s fantastic. He just hasn’t put that much music out for the past 30 years.
The boy can sing also!
Yep, Neil Murray on bass definitely. Cozy Powells anchor man for MANY years.
I was there! Still remember this splendid performance in the heat of summer in 84
One of the greatest live of Whitesnake in their greatest time. Wish be there again!

RIP Cozy....I got to see him with Whitsnake on the Slide It In tour...in the states.
Crying in the rain solo starts at 35:08 One of the best solo's ever written and performed by the great John Sykes. And the late great Cozy Powel on drums. What more do you want?
Yes, it's the guitar solo that we know the next album, the classic '1987'.
No Shit Huh
Not written at all; improsived, I guess.
Ian Paice?
Walter-Smith - Oh, I don’t know... another Blue Murder album as good as the first?
The whole band is awesome but everytime I listen Rain solo alive I am Speechless John! Please do not say John is underrated it is Huge Nonsense!
the best whitesneke !!! the best rock in roll !!! the best of hard rock !!!
the best dvid coverdale !!!! congratulations !!!!!
the best 70-80-90-200
Good job 💞🌹🌹🌹🎉🍹👍👍🏖️
In my opinion, this is their best line-up ever. I think Cozy was the perfect guy for Whitesnake
Whitesnake is the best band for me it doesn't matter which lineup they had they were always talented and great!
Everyone who's witnessed this exceptional concert film.....
You Saw Greatness!!!
BLESSINGS 🙏🏼

Thanks for sharing a Whitesnake show with John Sykes!!! I never even knew this one existed!!!
Great concert. I wish they had performed Looking For Love, the best Whitesnake's song.
One of the best 80's Hair Bands, in my opinion. They were all so young then, too. I was only 19 back when this performance is dated.
Sykes co-wrote much of Whitesnake '87 with Coverdale, but that wasn't until years after this performance. cozy powell que baterista para bueno ! ..una pena que ya no viva.. la mejor formacion de whitesnake sin duda !
John Sykes steals the show!
" Slide it in " - still my favourite WhiteSnake LP
mine too............
Cozy is the best rock'n'roll drummer of all times.
Danny Coverdale ROCKS! GOOOOOOOOOO Whitesnake
DAMN!
Thanks for sharing this classic
Classic Coverdale! ...and Cozy Powell with Neil Murray...and Whitesnake!!! I've never seen this before...and it is a fucking STADIUM!!!
I love the awesome muffle/distortion of the synth sound coming through old VHS tapes!
Simply the best album. I love all songs. Especially I love UK version of this album with John Lord.
Tks 4 post

FlashGordon that's an opinion. I think the 1980 line-up with Marsden and Moody was the best, also including Lord, Paice and Murray...
Agree! He gave an original & reckognizeable sound to the whole name of Whitesnake; Coverdale's great error, maybe the biggest!
@@ericodijk yep just your opinion(

@@luisclaudioneves2559 you know that even before Sykes joined, David already tried to get Vandenberg in the band.
Cozy is legend..
