I think what I enjoy the most with this show is that it shows the reality of working on cars.
Exactly....its not all about throwing $$$ in the background to make it a 100% failsafe success....its about the successes and failures! Absolutely spot on!
Scotty’s new haircut screams “I live my life a 1/4mile at a time “
And the mang sounds awesome 👌
lol looks more like james Hatfield from metallica
I have been watching him on UA-cam for years I wish he also shaved and had a clean canvas, still good to see him making videos nonetheless. I actually owe him some beers as a thank you for replying to my UA-cams comments maybe 10 years ago
You're looking a lot happier at the moment Scotty.
Supermang sounds killer so can't wait to see it run!
Don't forget you've also got that big tank full of water in the boot - that extra 60 kilos is like having my missus sitting in the passenger seat, Scotty!
True enough but we need that cooling
@@STREETMACHINETV It's ballast against torque reaction😉🤣
@@STREETMACHINETV from what I've seen from other setups, having a larger heat exchanger and fan lowers the IAT further Vs's a larger tank size.
Hey Scotty,
I’ve seen the Pro Import guys use a spacer on the bonnet hinges, so they don’t have to cut it.
You could do the same thing, so it latches from the front & also lets warm air out over the windscreen, seeing as this is only a temporary fix, until the intercooler vacuum leak issue is resolved?!
Good luck.
Kia Kaha,
Grant from NZ.
Great to see you got her ready just in time I also hope to see her in the 12's this is sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the next installment every time I see a VN particularly Supermang there is so much nostalgia attached to those iconic cars for me. I can't wait to see the stroker setup with turbo now that will make her rock n roll. Great work again Scotty Cheers
Hey Scotty little tip for the silicon joiners to stop them collapsing get yourself some fencing wire and wind it around your intercooler pipe and make a coil then slip it into your silicon joiner.
Cheers Ed
I remember as a kid playing outside with the other neighbourhood kids, and a VN with chaser rims would cruise by, and the older kids would say “that’s a chaser”
thanks JAKE welcome to the street machine family
Up the Supermang 🤙
Sounds absolutely sick M8!! Hope to see supermang whining up dandy frankston road.
Only been able to watch this today bloody good effort to get it done in time Scotty now for the nats video 👍🍻
Scotty, those two guys are worth there weight in gold! I’m hoping that the magazine actually paid them for coming in to help & doing a nice job 👍🏻! I’m sure you remember how hard it was to make ends meet when you were young! Like almost all of us 🙄🙄🙄🙄! Hopefully they will be back to make things happen when needed, & I really hope that being on your show will help there business! Best of luck @ Holden mats!
They were happy to help
It’s so spot on how frustrating it is working on cars at times.
Shows the reality of it thank you everything goes wrong often
Thanks to the boys for helping with the FAB work..
Good stuff Scotty. And great job on getting another sponsor onboard.
Thanks legends for another great episode. Really enjoying Supermang 🍻👍🏻
Great work mate. It’s certainly tested your patience. Cmon 12s. Good luck. Can’t wait to see the results
HI ALL
Scottie looking good welcome to VPW Australia thanks and real glad ya on board maybe you can talk scottie into fully rebuilding and painting his dads valiant ??? hee lol and i think it needs a screwtop blower something different in fleet ? thx bloody hell sounded like a CM VAL starting up lol
Terrific work Scotty, Immensely proud of you for getting Supermang going, BIG Fan of this project. Also looking forward to seeing The Lexen making an appearance on Carnage soon too, Cheers.
Great work mate! Respect the resilience in the face of all the setbacks you’ve had. Can’t wait to see her let rip!
Great news with the new sponsor. I'm a fan of VPW from way back.
Can't wait to see it running the 12's
Awesome to get the boys involved Scotty, allows the Carnage vision to endure with a high level of workmanship on your junk😜 great show🤙🏻
Morning Scotty another awesome Video of the supermang cant wait to see this thing rip keep up the good work mate cheers
Kudos for the Sponsor \o/
VPW
Great epp Scotty . Good to see the young blokes helping out with some nice fab work . Can't wait to see some 12 sec action .
Superman's running well. well done Scotty 🤘🤘
Great job Scotty and to the boys that helped out.
My only hot tip is whenever you use a sealant to seal something up, give it time to set before using it.
Can’t wait to see Super Mangs next 1/4 mile results. 👍🏻
Good on you VPW for supporting the Carnage team Will be buying from you now
Yes vpw! Thank you, and bring on the carnage hehe
nice work scotty, good luck smashing 12's on the weekend.
Ps. that 6.4 looks like it wants some racing action :P
I'm looking forward to see how she goes Scotty... The diff setup will help it out no end.
Good to see Ultima shocks in there! I put some in the rear of my FG turbo a couple of years back after being unable to source Bilstein at anything resembling a reasonable price... I was skeptical but figured they were so inexpensive if I didn't like them I could replace them later with something more expensive... well, I was sure surprised - they punch way above what their pricing would make you think!
Always cutting it tight Scotty good job all the best for the weekend !
the wooden manifold that holds the cooler set up is where your vacuum is coming from, the wood is a pourus matirial
Great to see the guys giving you a hand!
Nice work . 12 all the way
Scotty I know that you really don't want to give up on the supercharger because it is really cool and I've seen these engines make 400 HP on the M90, but it'd be SO much better with a turbo and a front mount air to air intercooler. It'd be so much more powerful and hold that power throughout the rev range with the proper turbo. All you really need is a NA 3.8 intake manifold, serpentine belt, turbo, modified exhaust collector pipe with a T3 flange, oil feed and drain lines, a tee piece for the oil pressure sender, and a -10 fitting for the oil pan. Fabricating intercooler piping is simple. Believe me, the supercharger is cool and the L67 CAN make good power on them, but a turbo at the same boost will make around 400 whp with the proper supporting mods. It'd be just like having another Trolvo...
He knows! But you can't fit an na manifold to the supercharged heads.
Scotty did one years ago, probably did it long before most even thought of it.
He did this to try something different.
@@Low760 you just need to block off the injector holes in the head you can tap and bung or some just JB weld or quick steel them.
Its hard to make 400rwhp with an m90 thats a challenge imo.
Why take the easy way?
Real gains with these engines are proper intercooling not that junk barrel setup and some sc porting and larger elbow/tb.
My L67 is at 400rwhp and 11 sec 1/4 and has some serious porting,4" elbow and 102mm tb. You also need the yella terra snout and 58mm or even 55mm pulley to get there.
The mace 2.42 isnt going to cut it imo and thats as small as you can go on the factory snout.
I know the et supermang has done and tbh is quite low given the mods.
Its at the point now it needs supercharger mods and as much boost as possible. Stop playing it safe that incls the tune up.
The ported sc will drop psi anyway as there is less restriction but a tonne more airflow and thats where the big gains are!
As for the turbo setup.
Tonyz garage kit and ecotec top end and good to go.
Easy power.
always check the vac hose under the tb fall off pretty easy also the block off in front of intake manifold
Great video & work as always Scotty!! Keep it up & I can’t wait to see the next one! P.S. Get those battery tenders I mentioned last time!!! 😂😂😂
On ya Scotty car is coming along great 👍🏼
Your VN vs super mang would be a mint race to see if you and Scotty ever set it up.
@@NarratorOnFB has been previously discussed 😁 😉
good luck scotty. you've got this
Everyone says go to the gym get fit Scotty says Nah just fit and take off the supercharger on a Holden V6 and then repeat steps keep up your a trooper
congratulations on the new sponsor!
I'm pretty confident it's gonna go low 12's. it's got all the good gear so it just comes down to the driver now. good luck Scotty. great video. 👍 👌.
Looking good with the haircut Scotty. You were starting to look pretty wild. Haha
i like that use of the 4x4 shock's , that should take care of the diff bounce. good job Scotty 👍
Vidoe paused. Straight to VPW website to see what toys they have for the Datto and Stag!
Good to see the VN looking this tidy. I have a feeling you will get tose numbers. Even without a 4.11. LOL
The boys did some killer welds on the intake pipes 🔥👌
They did a great job
Good work Scotty. Good to see you don't give up with with all the challenges thrown your way. By now it would of given me the shits and I'd have a stock v6 with extractors and nitrous haha
Great show. Ya need the tool to put a ridge on ya cooler pipes. You have blown hose's of before . cheers
We put some weld on it
The air blower through the U shaped intercooler pipe was a classic, and the diff installation music from 20:05 makes it so exciting. I've never fist pumped the air watching somebody fit a brake rotor before.
LOL
Big push to get it done. Good luck at the track!
Scottie mate that's one wicked hair do and even a beard trim
Mate with those KT 26 you look like the ultimate Aussie bogan 🤩🤩
Oh and the commodore is so too 😂😂😂😂
Bugger with the leak 😵😵
Those mace intercoolers need like 2 tubes of silicone inside and another tube entirely to seal it to the manifold and charger. That's what I needed when I used one for my build on a Mitsubishi motor. I also sanded the inside faces to get it to bond properly. Waiting for a zzp one now
Things are just getting to posh round here ! too many working cars ! lol
I know, it's crazy right?
Great video just picked up another project VS Commodore
Good luck mate! 👍
Hey Scotty a nice little bonnet scoop will be good 👍 mate awsome video keep it up 👍 also nice with your honesty your videos are kool Normal bloke Working on his car
I love this whole supermang series. I have a paddock bomb VT that the kidults burn around in. I have plans...
Hi Scott, I would suggest that if you use dry ice you’ll find much lower temperatures and will stay much colder for longer without the need for ice top ups.
Too expensive and there is such a thing as too cold
Awesome partnership, VPW has been a part of Go Fast bits for decades and was my "go to" for US speed bits and goodies for years with very fair pricing (Unlike some US parts vendors here) and id buy stuff from them because they had it in stock and it was cheaper than buying direct from the US with freight costs and way less dicking about.
Sooooooo next weeks episode has the Drag runs for SuperMang?
Monday's episode is already uploaded and ready to go - 7am
@@STREETMACHINETV YUSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
BTW I wasnt going to comment on the Vac leaks coz I saw the barrel in your teasers lol
Id have chucked the bottle just quietly.
Loving super mang more and more 😄🇭🇲
Awesome work there Scotty, just wondering why the cooler plate for the W2A had a vacuum leak?
yasss man, i prefer the IC piping look, give it character !!!
It's certainly a different look
Interesting bunch of mods, Scotty. Wasn't sure what you could to with the V6, but 290 HP at the wheels is bit of an upgrade
...I don't know if they make cowl induction style hoods for this generation of Commodore, but it'd look tough with one. (That's what you guys over there say, right, "Look Tough?")
but, ye, eventually sounds like you'll go the full Grand National on it. Look forward to seeing how she evolves over the next few months and years.
Reverse cowls are available, a VN group A scoop/bump might cover the pully.
Most likely leaking between the Bakelite plates of the intercooler, common problem with the mace design
You could put a section of aluminium that bends and tack it on the top around say 20mm wide. Then follow the suck in silicon bend at it furtherist point and bend it to suit the bend and put it to the outside of the lower connection. Just before the clamp might help keep it true. Just a thought. Hope it goes well.
Cool to get VPW on board. 👍🏻
If your using a wood plate you have to remember most wood plates breathe as wood expands when hot so leaks will always happen regardless
I feel your pain Scotty. We used an aluminium plate, the old tower one. Was good. You're going to run out of legs as soon as you go turbo with the 3.73s
Yeah, I know the 3.7s are on the steep side. If it proves to be too much of a problem we'll looking into 3.45s
@@STREETMACHINETV it'll get your 12 though. When's the next vid? I'm bored, isolating with covid lol.
compound boost through the M90 would be cool.
Richard holdener did do that and Scotty commented.
Got to love Holden's Scotty🤣
Scotty should run both intercoolers together, as an experiment. Now that you have a second bonnet to butcher.
To stop the tube sucking in, roll up some stainless round bar into a big spring like they have in lower radiator hoses.
Phenolic resin is great for heat separation but it is ultra crap for sealing on the shiny faces (too smooth), Silastic is the only way to seal it properly. It is probably leaking horizontally through the laminated parts of the spacer, in which case you will never seal it properly unless you can seal the outside face of it. I'd nearly be tempted make a aluminum outer, cut down the spacer / intercooler outer diameter and sit it inside the aluminum. If you were in Queensland I'd offer to throw it on the CNC and do it for you.
Absolute fantastic to see you out there Scotty working on Supermang...
Look forward to seeing you on your future episodes of carnage...
Cheers from Bill...
That sucks about the water to air intercooler. I had my doubts about such a material being used and maybe you were unlucky, again!!!!! Maybe have a word with the Binky lads and they can whip you something up in aluminium with an O ring grove machined into the faces 😉
Nice of Jake to help get you to the finish line. Is he a fully accredited and qualified welder? I may need his help if he or his workmate are fully licenced 🙃
Can tuff mounts make engine mounts to lower the engine?
Can you make a spring big enough to fit the hose like racing radiator hose have to keep it from collapsing
Send it Scotty!
I was just getting into it too I hate waiting for episodes
scotty rocking the James Hetfield look :)
Hey Scotty, how is that Mace Diff centre holding up? Seeing you give it a hard time cheers
It's doing fine
@STREETMACHINETV good to hear I'm looking at putting one in my VN
Please tell me you ran a bead roller around those cooler pipe ends ? She’s gonna pop right when you don’t want her to with hot / oily ? silicone so slippery and all 😬
There was no time so the boys dabbed some welds on the outside of the pipes instead. Haven't popped yet, despite multiple dyno runs and six passes down the quarter
@@STREETMACHINETV You should grab one - $250 on evillbay specifically for intercooler pipe etc . welds should be fine though !
I'm surprised u didn't investigate where the vacuum leak was as you dismantled it. I would have thought the silicone sealer might have indicated where the leak might have been?
Not sure you understand how tight our timeframe was. We we're literally cutting the bonnet just before loading in the trailer late Friday afternoon. I made it to the track at 11pm
@@STREETMACHINETV fair enough. Keep ip the great work. I used to have a 99 supercharged VT. GREAT engine for the time.
Mate when and if u end up with wheel spin off line look at thermal wrapping cooler and lines also tank as condensation drips will get u on the line
The cooler sits between the tyres
What no shed skid to christen the new diff?
Using the spare wheel well for the pump system I'd have re used the lid but lasered out a larger surface are and welded to it or made an l shape box. That's a lot of weight up high , I think lowering the centre of gravity with 70kgs of ballast would have helped greatly.
It had to be made fast, there wasn't a lot of time to finesse the design
Why don't you back purge your intercooler pipe whilst welding?
Got a beard trim and haircut mate looks good 👍
I might be totally wrong as I don’t know how the idle control works on those but would the silicon collapsing pull the idle down and when the sandwich plate style cooler was in place the idle rises because it isn’t restricted by the collapsed silicon? Sounded a lot snappier with the sandwich plate cooler.
It's going to be snappier with sandwich plate because of the shorter intake path
good weld jobs
Hair cut looks good mate. Hey that intercooler is made of timber? Is the end grain on the the ends sealed it looks like its made out of plywood witch is very porus through the end grain of the timber If its not sealed it will suck heaps of air through it.
It's a phenolic material which is not supposed to leak, but apparently we got a bad one
The compressed epoxy/fiber plate aren't always that flat ??
Why don't you make a spring shape out of a wire coat hanger for the inside of that flattening pipe?
Would dry ice last longer in the "ice box" ?
Not in my experience
