"Come As You Are" by Nirvana is such an iconic track that speaks to both self-expression and the contradictions we face in life. The opening line "Come as you are" feels like an invitation to be yourself, but the song's conflicting phrases like "Take your time, hurry up" and "Come as you are, as I want you to be" reveal the pressure to conform to expectations, even when you're trying to be authentic. It’s almost like Cobain was reflecting on the tension between wanting to be yourself and the pull to be what others want, something he probably felt deeply, especially after his parents' divorce. This duality captures how societal and family pressures can stifle creativity and individuality-a theme that resonates with many fans. Nirvana truly knew how to turn personal pain into a universal message.

Sorry to hear. Glad you are finding a friend in Kurt's music. Realize it only gets better if you make it better, because you are your life's first advocate. There's a lot of loneliness in that idea, but also a shit ton of power and freedom from those that may be driving your life to hell. It gives you a sense of control and direction, and a reason to explore and try new things, to not isolate yourself when life gets shitty. And friends aren't people who make you a happier person; they're people who make you a *better* person, healthier person. Fill your life with them as much as you can. That's some shit you learn the hard way if you're not taught, and you do NOT want to learn it the hard way. Sorry for my unsolicited advice. I'm just saying what I wish I had been told. Graduated high school in '91. It was recorded that month and released later that year. I put the the 1st 10 lines on our 30-yr reunion announcements. I thought it was a great fit. Time evaporates but the ominous introduction to this song never does.
at 1:38 and 2:48 ..yes, he clearly is saying the word "when" instead of the word "and" like so many endless interpretations have it as incorrect. Plus the "-ria" part starting on the downbeat instead of as a pick up lyric is really cleverly used

Amen to that brother I'm with you.
This was the first song by nirvana I have ever listen to
missing those days, when I collected money to buy Nirvana's cassettes
imagine it’s night time, your in your room with your girl/boy and your playing the guitar riffs on a actual electric one. smoking if you do. led lights on. not a care in the world, just u and your person.
Come as you are, as you were
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend
As an old enemy
Take your time, hurry up
Choice is yours, don't be late
Take a rest as a friend
As an old
Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria
Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach
As I want you to be
As a trend, as a friend
As an old
Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria
And I swear that I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun
Memoria, memoria
Memoria (no I don't have a gun)
And I swear that I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun

This song is actually awesome. Since I was a baby my dad would play this almost everyday, +a lot of other Nirvana songs. Commenting this on my moms UA-cam account. :)
Edit: to this day my dad still plays this. 🙃
Thanks for putting the lyrics. I always thought he was saying as an old memory not as an enemy lol. 😅
Thanks Kurt.
Still bumping Nirvana till this day!!
Plot Twist: He did have a gun.
Edit: WOEEEE OMGGGGG TYSM FOR 260 LIKES LIKE HOLY-
I find this offensive
@@ninagammar6629 Sorry 🤷♀️
@@teekanne5330 Of what?
Palpatine:
- Ironic
@@missing840 In this song the ''Gun'' is a metaphor for ''Hostility'' ....
It has nothing to do with literal lyrics cmon man
Come as you are, as you were as I want you to be
can’t get over that intro though it’s so good
Graduated high school in '91. It was recorded that month and released later that year. I put the the 1st 10 lines on our 30-yr reunion announcements. I thought it was a great fit. Time evaporates but the ominous introduction to this song never does.
0:17 is what I love the most
We love you kurt. Keep rocking on forever
Was watching pawn stars and a guy was trying to sell two nirvana records that had autographs... had to listen to some nirvana!
at 1:38 and 2:48 ..yes, he clearly is saying the word "when" instead of the word "and" like so many endless interpretations have it as incorrect. Plus the "-ria" part starting on the downbeat instead of as a pick up lyric is really cleverly used
30 years and a month since this man has been gone and still listening regularly. Definitely ages well if someone didnt know any better bet they think these songs were recently made. You did good kurt cobain. Your a legend.
this song is just perfect
He definitely had a gun
Nah, that was someone working for Courtney. 😆
Not funny thought 😢
@@alanlabranche6962 not funny 😂👍
this is a cool song
I absolutely love my 9 year old listens to this coz he's spent so many years listening to me listening to nirvana
