A few caveats. Legally release it as a cover is only one part. Some Distributors like Distrokid assist and help get the license from Harry fox as an example and allow the original writes to be paid through the MLC. Releasing for sale you will still need to get permission from the original writers for use of the mechanical license at a split cost with original writers. So just shoving a new vocal and saying legally releasing isn’t quite right. This only opens the door for the possibility to do it. ☺️

It's the way the music industry is going. There is fakeness everywhere from live stars singing to backing tracks, crap singers just pitch corrected and live recorded pop stars then having the performance mixed and enhanced before being put out as a live version. Over the years a lot has changed from vinyl records to Spotify. Most of the time it's the major players ripping off the Musicians who feel more under threat. I don't like this at all but if you view music as your business then you have to adapt and use whats out there good vid Jon, got a few moaners in the comments but thats normal for those who just moan and do nothing in life 😎

This is a bad idea. I have worked professionally in film productions involving music copyright clearances and I can assure you it is definitely not legal to take a vocalist's performance as your source material and then just modify it through an AI voice transformer or plugin and then claim it's 100% original. All the phrasing, rhythm and inflections etc. of the original performance are still there and will easily be recognised by the original artist.

When creating a cover song, it's essential to bring your own artistic interpretation to the work, whether through different instrumentation, a unique arrangement, or a distinct vocal style. This way, you can create a cover that pays homage to the original while still being recognized as a distinct and separate work.
To summarize, using AI-generated vocals in a cover song is just one aspect of creating a legally recognized derivative work. Ensuring that the music arrangement and overall production are also substantially different from the original is equally important. thoughts?

Instantly started to play around with the conversions when I came across your video. It produced mixed results with some being pretty close with minor artifacts and others being almost unusable. I think this tool would be better suited for shorter acapella conversions rather than converting a full length already isolated acapella. I also played with converting female vocalists to male covers which spat out similar results. AI tech is certainly getting better however I think as of right now, to do this sort of thing would cause more headaches when trying to edit them in order to create something consistently usable.

The combination of technology and creativity/skills and will make us better, more creative and productive. My recent example is that i had an instrumental version of a song I was working on for a long time but I couldn’t get the right vocal melody. I uploaded my music to one of the AI sites who then took my lyrics and music and created the top line which was great. So this is an example of where I was really aided by the song. I had a singer sing it and the song was accepted for a sync listing.

The free version is used up and gone before you can properly asses it. Not really that fabulous and very overpriced for what you get. You might think you have access for a month if you pay for a month, like the pricing structure says, but the truth is, for $25, you get 10 hours of conversion time, spread over a month, NOT unlimited time over a month. By the time you've experimented and auditioned the different singers and settings in an average song, you're outa time. For this price, this is a a huge rip off. Especially when you consider what an artist gets per download for their entire song, which includes writing, composing, performing, mixing and mastering for usually 79 pence per song. even at 1/10 of the price it would be a ripoff.

The next problem will be that record companies will create their own AI based tracks and use Spotify to fill the lists to play with and directly get the income from it without the use of any hired artist at all. 🙂. But I agree, the world has been upside down entirely in the music industry. But nevermind, its like ages, we all died when the sampler start to sample beats and vocals, we all had a heart attack when CDs got copied by thousands and we thought the world would end when spotify took all the royalties and paid pennies for streaming, we will see what happens, I think younger producers will make copies over copies and the usual way of creating of something entirely new will fade away soon.

Stealing someone else’s vocal performance and just swap the tonal sound of the voice, is not only unethical but could also land you in legal trouble.
The original singer might not be one of the writers and wouldn’t be compensated.

the vocals is so lifeless...so robotic....so absurb to put robots to replace the emotions, the being, the presence of a human voice.

not cool. I do agree on using any contemporary technology but this is rip off. Why would you do this?

Jon my friend, I have really enjoyed your content for years but you can’t be both pro AI and Against the AI (which is one of your artist projects). Let’s not promote the AI in this mess of a time for all musicians! This is not good 🙏 as musicians, we’re all in danger so let’s promote each other as opposed to AI. Thanks

I actually hate this A.I. Stuff and I’d rather go back to the 1980’s or 90’s.

All this is problematic, not only if one wants to make money or become famous with producing (why should I?). The more annoying and desturbing side will be that we will have less and less access to authentic, meaningful, original high quality art. Making art is a religious act, it's a way of connecting beyond the expectations and rules of society. It's religious but it's free of organised religion. Whatever AI ( wich doesn't exist, it's AT - artificial thinking ) will be, it will never be intelligent, I mean, It's the Mac-Donalds of art! It's an empty box, it's only about the looks, the taste, the form and when art
... is only about the outside, the technique, the form IT'S EMPTY, MEANINGLESS, it's.... it's MEANINGLOSS. And ask yourself, Where is the joy, the fun, the personal journey, the deep meaning to be found in effortless, easy and fast producing? Hard work, going slowly, solving problems, communication, getting lost and finding new ways, celebration, tripping together is what thru creativity is all about. AI- or AT, as I prefer to call it, used like this makes you just a thief, and what is stolen will never taste like the thing you've earned, discovered, what you hear when the universe sings.... And the word "covering" has a totally other meaning when it's done with real people from a band.... EVERY DAY A COVER tastes like EVERY DAY FAST-FOOD ! I agree man IT'S INSANE HAHA! I don't mean this in a good way. Why don't you look for a human artist for your art-work?, But I guess you don't give a damn do you? As long as it's beautyful on the outside, easy, cheap and fast God-Damn! Well, don't come complaining when all the human society has become easy, cheap and fast....and totally superficial . This way of producing in so narcissistic, it's all about you, the "me", no communication, no working together, "nothing to go thru" as you put it, the others are a problem!!! Where is the time where music started, in our caves, after the hunt, belly's full, and we celebrated that....together, the joy, the extacy.!!!! NOT ALL EVOLUTION IS PROGRESS.... today? I don't need anybody... Now what's there to celebrate? I'm on the way of becoming the loneliest person in the world.... Great isn't it? But hey.... chear up, there's always the hope it will make me money......
